Geo: 5.36904, 100.264The Budaya Celebration by the sea, held in Straits Quay in Penang was a colorful, vibrant event displaying as many as 18 cultural groups in traditional dress as part of Malaysia's National Day celebrations. I was fortunate enough to be staying in the marina at Straits Quay with neighbors from Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Joe and Anita on their catamaran Coral Kuching when the celebrations took place, and we were in the perfect location. Docked only one boat away from the main stage and with the parade going around the marina, we had a perfect view of the whole event.It was a colorful event which displayed Malaysian cultures with Penang in particular having a large Chinese/Malay as well as Indian/Malay cultures it was a vibrant and thoroughly enjoyable event... Geo: 6.32, 99.85Paul and Visa and the launch of sailing yacht 'Eeyore', and a trip back to Langkawi.Although I checked out of Thailand with Immigration, Customs and the Harbour Master in Satun to leave on S/Y Eeyore, it was another six days before the boat was actually ready to go. A few last minute touches after launching from Phitack's Shipyard where I am currently staying, and anchoring off in the river at Che Bilang to get finished, and it's time to set sail.She's a lovely boat and I'm looking forward to getting back out sailing, the journey over was lovely although once Langkawi was in sight a storm started brewing... Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515I returned to Yacht Haven to help out on super yacht After 8 which was a great opportunity and good experience to have around marinas. From washing down the boat, polishing stainless steel and cleaning the teak decks etc. it was fascinating seeing the standard which the owners expect and thankfully I have a real eye for detail so being precise and fussy over the smallest things really helped me achieve beautiful finished work. Carlo and Ollie showed me the ropes which was appreciated and I spent an enjoyable time happily polishing away to prepare the boat for their departure. For me though circumstances have changed, finances have forced me to move on and I plan to get back out cycling again with a loose plan to head to Kuala Lumpur and look at ... read more
