As the protest march (see: )was now north of Mathura on the AH1, we made a detour onto the Yamuna Expressway, a massive six-lane motorway opened just six months earlier. It was almost deserted and we scurried at previously unheard of speed towards Delhi. Possibly, as this was a new road, drivers weren't yet fully aware of it. Perhaps the tolls were too expensive for most. Or, maybe, as it starts in Uttar Pradesh and passes through the state of Haryana, albeit briefly, before reaching the National Capital Territory, its emptiness may have had something to do with separate vehicle taxes payable in each of the three states. Our driver, for example, had a Rajasthan-registered car with tax already paid in Uttar Pradesh. He didn't usually go as far north as Delhi and had been a ... read more

Delhi to Shimla The flight from Bangkok took about four and a half hours but as Delhi is an hour and a half behind we arrived at 8.30. Delhi was very organised but while waiting for luggage I went to the loo, I was greeted with a 'hello Madam' and when I came out, arm in sling they helped me wash my hands, turning on taps offering towels I thought that was lovely. We were soon through and met by a rep from Travelbag or Cox and Kings. We were driven through Delhi, quite a pleasant warmth about 20 but it was dark and you can't quite see what it's like, although it looked surprisingly clean. We arrived at a swanky hotel but had a small room oh well it's only for a night. We had to ... read more

Nakupil som tu magnetky, vodu a keksy do lietadla. Hadam s vodou prejdem cez kontrolu. Nie,ze by so slovensku vedeli.. Poslednych 30 rup co mi ostalo,ak neratam co som si nechal ... read more

Konecne mi v noci nebola taka velka zima. Z ubytka som vypadol o 10/00 smer metro chandni chowk. V metre klasika, security, mini tlacenica. Po vystupeni z metra opat mensia dezorientacia kde to vlastne som. Fakt asi nevedia co znamena slovicko NO. Nakoniec som ich uplne prestal vnimat ako keby tam ani neboli. Slniecko zacalo pekne prazit, okukol som teda pevnost zvonku a podchodom som sa pobral k mesite Jama Masjid. Osudova chyba. Prvy krat a aj posledny som ... read more

Pekny palac. V okoli bola kopa vojakov so samopalmi.

030213 Waky waky at 0800hrs. Not as enthusiastic as yesterday, but this time at least awake befóre the alarm clock. Han was forced to use drugs last night to prevent snoring (ok, only nose drops....) and didnt hear him all night. Breakfast at 0900hrs. The usual omelette, daring enough wíth green spicy peppers, and by the time coffee arrives I am happy to be able to drink sómething.... Everything is at least a bít spicy, and breakfast is warm. I love it, can do this without any problems in a sustained way. The usual topics are discussed, like "you still don't have the runs yet? Nope not me. You? No, me neither". Important stuff to discuss. Really, because we share bathrooms, and would like to know this in advance.... After breakfast I even manage to block ... read more

020213 What a day today... With earplugs in, slept through the roaring sounds of Han last night, waking up at 0815, missed the t.o.t. with 15minutes... Breakfast was good, first Indian food, very nice, bit spicey, with freshly made omelette and thank god, coffee.... 1000hrs in the car, off to Jama Rashid and the Red Fort. Amazing experience. a Combination of Iraq, Congo and super friendlyness of people, sounds, noise, smells, smoke everywhere and thousands and thousands of people swarming over the streets, withouet clear traffice rules, missing eachother by centimeters, and with no aggressiveness or bad behavior. Its just the way they do things. Many people want to shake our hands, want to take a picture with us. We are almost the only tourists, and when you encountre another one, you nod to eachother in ... read more

A heavy load off my shoulders since this morning..... My travelmate (Han) and I submitted the requests for VISA to India and Nepal 15 days ago. It normally takes 5 - 6 days to process.... except for us of course. We are supposed to travel in two days, and only this morning we heard that the India one is ready..... The Nepal one we will now do ourselves when we arrive at the border.... Super happy, excited again after a grim thought of having to cancel the almost three week trip to Delhi, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Varanasi, Agra and Kathmandu. Backpack luggage is already waiting for me in the Netherlands. Flying from Madrid to Amsterdam tomorrow, then Amsterdam Delhi on Friday. Memory cards for around 2000 pics in full raw format, clean socks and underwear for ... read more

I have been running around non-stop since I came to Dehli. During our first full day in Dehli we walked through the spice market(the largest one in Asia) and visited Salaam Baalak. It is a street kid NGO (non-government organization). We went to the boys home and we took a tour of the neighborhood. Our tourguide was a former street kid who grew up in Salaam Baalak. On our third day we went to the Taj Mahal, the first of the Seven Man-Made Wonders of the World. We left at 6 am and arrived 6 hours later. Our group is kind of slow so by the time we got to the Taj we only had 30 minutes! I wish we were able to spend the night. Before we left we toured the Red Fort, which was ... read more
