Reliable driver in India

Looking for a driver from Delhi or Jodhpur to Gujarat and onwards

I went to India two years ago as a backpacker, travel mostly by train. This time around (around May), we'd like to do it by car because we have limited time, about 2 weeks. We would land in Delhi so we could rent a driver from there. Head to Jodhpur, then south to Gujarat and further south to Hampi; possibly in between all that, a stop at an animal reserve if the season is right.

We are very familiar with (and weary of) the touts, bargaining, etc. so we are looking for some recommendations for drivers that you have used before that are reliable and reasonably priced. We are fairly independent so it's important that we have a fair degree of freedom to make choices throughout the drive.

Thanks so much!

Hi Kelly, your itinerary suggest that you want to visit a lot of places in 2weeks. It would be better if you have local drivers who knows the local customs, places better. I think you should contact to a reputable travel agency in India as they could provide you good & reliable drivers according to every region. Reply to this

Hi Kelly,

Beware of cheating Travel agency's in Delhi who provides Car, Taxi and driver. You might end up paying three times more then the original price on the bill just because you are a foreigner in India for travel. If you hire a taxi or a Car it's 10 rupee for one kilometer usually for renting cars like Toyota Innova. If you rent Toyota Qualis it's 7 rupee per kilo meter including driver charges. So the kilometers you travel multiple by 10 rupee to each kilo meter including Driver Charge . You shouldn't have to pay anything much extra except some parking charges, tip to driver end of the journey..(Only if you wish) . Delhi is the first arrival city for travelers and it's a tourist hub ..so travel agents cheats a lot.

My best wishes for you travel in India.

Hi Amar,

Thanks so much. I recall being hassled immediately at our hotel when we first arrived at Delhi. It is so difficult to know who to trust. Your tip is really useful.

I also think that you want to do a lot in two weeks. Hampi is a long way South!
We have been travelling in India quite a lot too and mean to go to Mumbay (and Hampi possibly) this year. We always travel with the same independent driver who is from Delhi. We organize the trip we want and he gives us his price.
He is perfectly reliable, very prudent on the road and does everything he can to make his clients happy. His English is quite good. Want his address , Let me know... Reply to this
