(bl.a. dem fra vores eget hostel).

This entry will have to be a simple one. I'm sitting in the Chengdu Airport's Executive Lounge writing this. Our plane to Beijing has been delayed 2 hours, so it give me a chance to give you a bit of an update. I usually compose my entry using WORD because I have done it on this website before and lost the whole thing. But I'll have to take my chances today. My stay in Chengdu has been very memorable. I have enjoyed meeting so many people (you can't imagine how many!) and have had a chance to not just see the culture but to participate in it. The Chengduese are very warm and gentle people who have been very welcoming to me. I have been to private homes for special dinners where I was ... read more

Well that was without doubt three of the coolest days of the trip so far. Just finished volunteering at the Giant Panda Centre in Wolong, Sichuan Provence and it was an unforgettable experience. Arrived in Chengdu on an overnight train from Xian (Terracotta Warriors were cool but was far too hot and sick to enjoy the rest of the city). Imaginative Traveller, being cheap bastards, have us in the cattle truck section of the train - three bunks per row where you can't even sit up on the bed and completely open compartments. We were the only non-Chinese on the train and therefore the source of much attention and amusement (wearing my Chairman Mao PLA hat may have exacerbated this). The nice enclosed 4 bed compartments like on the Trans-Sib were full of westerners. Managed ... read more

Nĭ hăo! I had an exhausting time while in Tibet. Not only did I have trouble because I didn’t have my proper meds, but I fell victim to the effects of high altitude! You definitely wouldn’t want to go through it! The two highlights of my time there were walking in the Jiuzhaigou Park and seeing the beautiful musical performance of Tibetan folk culture - gone Hollywood. I say “gone Hollywood” because the lighting and the costumes and special effects used to enhance the show were utterly fantastic! It rivaled the “Follies Bérgères” in Paris - I kid you not! Absolutely first-rate! The following day, eight people of our group went for a hike in the nearby World Heritage Site, Juizhai Park. After Mei bought our admission, we all boarded a bus which took us about ... read more

Zdecydowalismy sie zostac w Chengdu o jeden dzien dluzej. Powodow bylo kilka: ja bylem mocno przeziebiony i jeden dzien przelezalem w lozku, spotkalismy fajna grupke Polakow, CHengdu nam sie bardzo podobalo. Gdy ja chorowalem, Pawel wybral sie do Wielkiego Buddy z Leshan, ja pojechalem nastepnego dnia. Czworke Polakow spotkalismy juz w Xi'an, w Chengdu spotkalismy sie ponownie w jednym hostelu. Ja wprawdzie raczej chorowalem niz sie integrowalem:P, ale chwila odpoczynku byla mi naprawde potrzebna, przed wyruszeniem w wysokie gory, w strone Tybetu... ... read more

Jednak widocznie troche sie zmienilo, pokazalismy nasze ISAC i dostalismy znizke studencka:) Co do samej Armii, to jest ona wystawiona w miejscach, w ktorych zostala znaleziona ( przypadkowo chyba w ... read more

Siedze w kafejce w Chengdu w Sichuanie. Pociag z Xi'an do Chengdu jechal 18 godzin. Wczoraj wieczorem wy... read more

Chengdu is much more than a place to sit and wait for communist red tape to be cut (more on that later...). While the city is unimpressive in sights and grandeur - minus the obligatory stop to the Sexual Harassment Panda Breeding Center - it more than makes up for it in local flavor, random hilarity and being a microcosm of modern China. With roughly 1.4 gajillion people (in a city that strangely, never feels crowded by the way) it's fast becoming one of the "it" cities in China. Sichuan is renowned throughout the world (and when I say "world", I of course mean China, because to the Chinese, that IS the world) for it's hot food and even hotter women and Chengdu lives up to the hype for both. Natalie, Scott and I literally seem ... read more
