Hawaii is gorgeous. The landscape reminds me of some place Indiana Jones would travel to. The beaches here are gorgeous, it is so clean and the water is a beautiful blue that does not exist on the east coast. The flight was long--9 hours from Chicago's airport. It was nice though, I got to see some bad movies that I would never see in the theater. That was nice. This is my blog everyone! I will update it every so often with stories and pictures of my journey. For those who do not know where I am going, I am in Hawaii and I go to Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, and then Italy. This is the best way to keep in touch with me. For anyone who wants to e-mail me directly, send them to ... read more

Root River TrailMaureen Kelly/Robert Tait "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted" Rushford was a start point for the Root River Preston Valley State Trail. The bike trails in MN are free, so no pass is needed. The trail is paved and follows the Root River for 42 miles; then connects to the Harmony Preston Valley Trail for another 18 miles. As we biked along this beautiful valley we crossed lots of bridges over the Root River and its tributaries. The weather has been hot—85 yesterday, 90 today, while moving it is OK, but stop and wow it hits. Most of the trail is fairly level, but a few ups and downs to keep one pedaling. The pool at the Old Barn RV Park was a great treat at the end ... read more

Tuesday, which was our last day in the area, began at Heini's, which is a huge cheese factory. This is a place the buses go. It can get very crowded but we were lucky and it was not busy when we were there. They have free samples of all of their cheeses, including cream cheese fudge! We took the things we bought back to the motorhome before going out for another ride. I wanted to go to another campground in the area, Evergreen Park RV Resort to make reservations for us to come back with one of the local chapters of our Bounder club in July. We did that and then tried to go to ‘Simply Smuckers’, which is a beautiful outlet in the country. We went and got quite a surprise. It was closed ... read more

Tuesday morning we wake up early and pack up the trailer one last time in Utah. Heading out on the road we go north. A quick stop outside of Utah for some breakfast and a quick walk we are back on the road headed to Idaho Falls for lunch. In Idaho Falls we do some shopping at Walmart for food and some pet wipes to clean off Colby after his dip in the lake. Lunch is a nearby Wendy’s and we are back on the road north traveling through increasingly greener country. Around 2:00pm we pass into our fifth state, Montana. From there it’s a short distance to the west entrance of Yellowstone. We pay our gate entry fee of $25 for 7 days (even though we will be here but 4). Through the gate ... read more

The Bearskin camp is situated in the Kings Canyon park so any bit of free time I had, not working in the kitchen that is, I use it to go exploring. During staff training we got driven to the Redwood Canyon park as a "Get to know your fellow staff exercise" I think. The Sequoia trees are incredible!! In fact they tend to be called "Giant Sequoia's" which is completely understandable when you see them. To prove the point a group of us held hands around the trunk of one tree and it took 20 people to make a complete circle, wooow. They are so large some people in the past have lived in the base of the trunks. Along the trail in the park we were told some cool facts, like if your into your ... read more

Blog by James Grieve My brother 12th June. Honolulu my first island of Huwaii was way cool! American though and through; big and flash. I stayed at a hostel on Waikiki beach. My hostel was one street back from the beach front and the beach was absolutely kraking! It went off from morning till late into the night! I arrived at the backpackers after lunch and had a well needed and fully deserved shower and a short nap, lugging that baggage around was no mean feet I tell you! I left for the beach that afternoon and spent the rest of the day on the sand or catching the sites; I think I’d been awake about 40 hours at that point but wasn’t feeling tired in the least. When darkness fell followings an amazing Hawaiian sunset ... read more

Both of us have been to Las Vegas on numerous occasions but never with eachother. This was our first trip there together and I'm sure there will be more to come. We are both night owls and Vegas is the kind of town that just sucks us right in, enticing us with never closing bars, twinkling lights and a plethora of activities. Someday I'll actually get to the Red Rocks to explore more of nature as opposed to the man-made playground. Someday... We met up with our boy Randy from Cali, some of his friends and my friend Cynthia whom I hadn't seen since Germany. Added to the roster was Kerry that I went to high school with and is now a Vegas transplant. We even ran into Curtis, whom I used to work with in ... read more

Leaving downtown Portland was easier than driving in but we still enjoyed a few ‘scenic’ routes before we navigated to the top of Rocky Butte State Park. What fantastic views around Portland. You can see Mt St Helens, Mt Adams and Mt Hood around the city. I caught some terrific video of an airplane banking in front of Mt Hood as it came in to land at Portland Airport. It can be a little disconcerting to see a large jetliner gliding to land below you as it crosses the Interstate. We could have stayed up there all day but, alas, we had things to do. Mt Hood beckoned as we took the Mt Hood Scenic Highway through Gresham and Sandy, a relaxing and scenic drive. We stopped at Timberline Lodge, expecting to see Jack Nicholson hurtle ... read more

For the 3rd year the OZ HOG Chapter of Topeka, KS spearheaded a ride to the Muscular Dystrophy Association summer camp at Tall Oaks Conference Center located near Linwood, KS., and OZ once again asked the Central Midwest HOG Chapter to join them. It is Tuesday and while the campers are discovering Italy, 26 kid friendly Harley Davidson motorcycles came to camp to join in the fun. The camp theme this year is traveling aboard a cruise ship. The campers discover a different country every day. Monday was Australia, Tuesday is Italy, Wednesday is going to be Japan, Thursday is to be Spain, the destination for Friday seemed vague. When you are that young, Friday is just too far off to worry about. The evening started with a ride to Linwood. The two HOG groups always ... read more
