I am just a couple of weeks away from moving to Bangkok, Thailand. I've notified my boss and co-workers of my resignation, effective Friday, June 29, 2007. There are a lot of loose ends to wrap up at work prior to my departure, but I'm confident it will get done. There is also the daunting task of packing & storing my stuff. I will only be bringing two suitcases and a backpack with me to Thailand. Considering I intend to fit everything else I own in a single 5'x7'x8' storage unit, the bigger project is selling all that won't fit. Obviously, most furniture is classified as "sell", or even "give away". Most storage units in the area run around $100, but I'm going the BigBox route. Have you heard of this? They bring a box and ... read more

June 9th - June 11th We had to perform an Annual Family ceremony @ a priest’s place in LiverMoore The ceremony was on June 11th Monday. So we thought we would spend the weekend at some place near Liver Moore. Undoubtedly, the first place that came to my mind was Yosemite. This is one of the perfect times to visit Yosemite because of the waterfalls being in full swing. We knew 2 days are not going to be enough for Yosemite. As always, this is nearer, so we can afford one more trip. :-) This was our plan Friday - June 8th Evening- start from Tustin and reach Fresno which is 4 hours from our place. Saturday -June 9th Morning - Start from Fresno and reach Yosemite Saturday - June 9th Night- Check in @ Oakhurst ... read more

Location: Hershey, PA - specifically, we are in our hotel room at the SpringHill Suites both in our beds watching Jay Leno Blogger: Katie Arrival at hotel: 11:08pm Miles traveled Day One: 409 Highways Travelled: 9 So DJ is too tired to blog but he loves you all. He had originally planned on blogging about his criticisms about this blog program and all of the features that it should have. I told him that he should market it and sell it (his new one). We're watching the Headlines and it's pretty hilarious. So yay. Things to note about the hotel room. The toilet paper in the bathroom is way too far from the toilet. There was also an ant in the bathtub, which DJ informs me was a small cockroach. That's disturbing, but it reminds me ... read more

Hi everyone, I am abusing FREE internet access at my hotel! Great flight except for Vancouver airport taking a fancy to my bag for a while and nearly missing the connection. Anchorage is awesome from the air, oh those snowcovered mountains and miles of wilderness! Small friendly country town yet with all big city facilities, minus the crowds, traffic, smog etc. The bear trip today had perfect weather- T shirts, thermals didn't get a look in! sunset is 11pm and tomorrow I'll find out about sunrise maybe as up very early to go down Kenai fjords peninsula. Anyway today- saw beluga whales, an otter's clam shell midden, a bald eagle's nest complete with bird, two beaver lodges, lotsa waterbirds not seen in Oz or UK, and the folks in the OTHER boat saw a cow m ... read more

Well, the great train trip to the West hasn't gotten off to the best of starts. I suppose it hasn't really gotten off to a start at all yet. The lead engine of our train, which runs from Chicago to Albuquerque to LA derailed (really) in Fort Madison, Iowa yesterday. Not surprisingly, this resulted in a bit of a delay in our departure. Now, rather than leaving Wichita at 3:25 this morning, we'll be departing around 4:30 this evening. That means we'll be going through Southeast Colorado and Northern New Mexico while its dark, making the sights significantly more difficult (read "impossible") to read. Let's just hope this doesn't happen every time; it would get old pretty fast. ... read more

Have downloaded some pictures so will enter those today. Raining today so will spend the time wandering the streets of Bar Harbor. Plan to extend at park campground for 2 additional days hoping to get some kakyaking and more bicycling in before we head north. Have been using laundromats along the way as needed, but David planned on us being able to be self-sufficient. Love watching him use the hand operated wringer devise he bought for the trip.... read more

Blogger: DJ Location: Somewhere outside Hershey, PA Ok, so we are off again. First I have to say, that it's really neat to see so many comments and to have people wanting to check in on our trip. Thanks for reading! We would have posted this morning, but were having technical difficulties. Last night I was pretty darn sick, so I barely got any sleep. Katie will be doing most of the driving today anyway, so hopefully I can work in a nap or two. This morning, we decided that we want to be at our next hotel (Bristol, VA) by 10 pm. Since google tells us that the drive will take 6.5 hours, we figure we had to leave Hershey by 2:30 to allow time for meals and gas. Given a couple of hours ... read more

Blogger: Katie Location: Frederick Heights, VA Well friends, today has been an interesting day. We're taking a slight change of drivers break, DJ could tell that I was itching to blog AND we had to stop because of some spills. First we realized that the box of cheese its was almost empty because it had spilled all over the front floor. I guess that was my fault. THEN. I asked DJ if he could find the sunblock in my backpack and he finds that a chocolate bar (which I'd packed from NH) had ooozed all over the inside of my bag. Basically this prompted a big sad face for me. So we pulled off at the nearest exit so I could clean up the chocolate off of all of my books, etc. It's pretty much ... read more

Days 43 & 44 – Monday & Tuesday – Los Angeles, Califonia *sob* it's our last day!!! So yesterday we all met for our last breakfast as the six of us - the last supper hehehe. Jen & John who we'd spent the last 6 weeks with, have headed back up to San Fran and then make their way over to Chicago before flying back home to England after there year long honeymoon. It's been very weird ever since hanging out and them not being around and we miss them heaps (awwww!). The plan for Monday was for Kate, Toni, Dean & I to go out to Six Flags Magic Mountain, but we realised it was $100 to get a taxi (ONE WAY), it was about 4 busses and 2 hours to go by public transport ... read more
