Okay, so we were originally going to head out last Monday but we had ourselves a little incident and reason to pause. Teresa sprained her ankle in a freak post lunch accident at Irving's local Furr's Cafeteria. Despite the bump in the road (or hole in the sidewalk) we are back on track and ready to roll. On the bright side of things, we've had a week to lounge around Nancy's (my grandmother) house and enjoy the gazillion inch HDTV with more movie channels than you could ever hope for. Nothing like a little R&R to help us prep for the long journey ahead. We arrive in Tokyo Tuesday the 28th and will be in Japan until that Friday when we take off on a ferry to Beijing. We'll try to drop a line or 2 ... read more

Magnolia is what is called a bedroom community just north of Houston. It is home for our daughter Kate who is a lawyer --no lawyer jokes, please--her husband Chris, two horses, two dogs and two cats. Plus their German exchange student for the year, Nadette. Mont had kept himself busy while we were galavanting around Panama up on the 28 Acres near Conroe that Kate bought recently for her horses. He'd dug the hole for the main gatepost and wanted to help Chris set the post in cement and hang the gate. Also, I think he didn't relish starting out on that next 1456 mile trip til I was sort of rested up. By noon on Thursday February 23 he figured Chris could handle it from there so we left on the first leg back to ... read more

After some wonderful shopping and days lounging by the super natural thermal pool, we left San Miguel with a bang. Our last night, Josh and a gang of 3 others really put on a spread of fajitas, homemade tortillas, wonderful local fruit and a variety of yummy drinks. We had a great week in San Miguel and would like to extend a special thanks to Tom, Proferia, Tony, Triny and Maria for all of their hospitality. We had an amazing time because of you!! After leaving San Miguel, we got on the freeway heading due North. Our sights were minimal because the insurance was due to run out the 16th. We did stay the night in Saltillo about 250km from the border. Besides the amazing amount of pigeons in their main square (one almost took a ... read more

As I continue the search for Mr. Right the idea that he might be wearing a cowboy hat is quite appealing. And riding a bull, even more appealing. So when I stepped into Dallas airport full of anticipation, I was quickly jolted back to my senses; transport, accommodation and food. Maybe when I grow up I'll plan these things ahead of time, but who really wants to grow up that fast? I scoured the books, the notice boards, anybody wearing a backpack for a lead towards a hostel in town. It seems that people are still influenced by the tv Dallas mansions from the 80's as there certainly wasn't a hostel to be found. Most people just stared at me and commented how I sounded like a combo of the Queen and Keira Knightly. Others tried ... read more

Well, It's been a strange couple of weeks. We have finally made it to Dallas, Texas which is the end of our journey down the East Coast and through the Southern US after leaving Canada 41 days ago and travelling over 4,000 miles on Greyhound buses. We got to Kissimmee, near Orlando late one night only to find that Barbaras rucksack had not made it the whole way from Folrida City with us. The station was closed so we had to go on to where we were staying and call the next day to get it. It finally turned up two days later and so we had to put off going to any of the parks until we got it all sorted out. With that behind us we headed to Universal studios for the day. Its ... read more

Our plane leaves in 5 hours. I am so excited and so nervous at the same time. Its always wierd traveling to the unknown but thats whats exciting about it as well. David seems a little on edge this morning I guess I should have let him sleep in a little longer but hopefully by the time we get on the plane all will be well again. I cant believe I have a 9 hour flight ahead of me to Zurich Switzerland followed by a 9 hour train ride to Rome. I cant wait to see Switzerland and the georgeous glaciers and mountains. Its a winter wonerderland over there right now and a brisk 37 F degrees. Nothing I cant handle. Well I am about to shut my computer down so it can sleep for the ... read more

Last week, I had the pleasure of being able to drive clear across the wide state of Texas along Interstate 10 (all on the company nickel). First, I flew into El Paso on the morning of Feb 3rd and picked up a new Honda C-RV at a local dealership. This was the first part of my work in Texas. My job was to deliver it to a coworker in Houston. Now it off to San Antonio via the broad expanse of western Texas. Pretty cool scenery. I thought it was neat to see so much empty space for such a long distance. I spent the weekend visiting the parents plus Brent and Holly happened to be there at the same time. Played some golf and hung out for the most part. Also visited the Mission San ... read more
