This was my 1st long trip for the year 2006. The weekends goal was to ride from Kansas City to Abilene TX, more exact the TX State HOG Rally, with a few side stops for other ABC points. Abilene TX is about 2 hours west of Ft Worth. My HOG group is also doing the “I’ve Been Everywhere tour” which uses the list of all 91 of the towns/states in Johnny Cash’s song. The HOG group challenged its members to find and take a picture of their bike by as many of the IBET locations as possible. Always up for a challenge I have plotted in those towns as they come up in my ABC routes. This is a solo trip on my 2005 883 Harley Sportster ‘Effie’. 19 May 2006, Friday I took a half ... read more

There’s a Spring in my step….. From Memphis we made our way to Texas via a hot and sweaty greyhound bus with many stops in weird little towns…! On our arrival in Houston we were greeted by the now customary homeless man offering us everything from a taxi ride to a slab of meat, we unfortunately didn’t take him up on anything but we did find a taxi and as it was midnight we couldn’t wait to get in. We were very unlucky with the taxi driver, for starters he had no idea where we wanted to go and secondly he filled up with petrol twice! Literally ‘taken for a ride’….oh well at least it is swelteringly hot we thought! (Infact it was sooooo hot and humid the whole time we were here) This though was ... read more

Houston is the 4th largest city in America and it showed, unlike LA however it did have a convenient tram and bus network. We were staying in Houston’s one and only hostel and it was the first genuine hostel we had been to. It was basically a converted house with your basic amenities. Guests were expected to assist with daily chores and the price was extremely cheap, we were later told this was to avoid having to pay hotel tax. After spending some time on the internet we went to bed. The following morning we headed into downtown. When we got there we found it to be extremely quiet with very few people around. We later learnt that there was a large complex system of underground tunnels beneath us; all Houstonians use these tunnels to get ... read more

Today I thought it is a good day to explore the area south of Austin and have a look where US-183 will go to. So I'm driving south of Austin today on US-183. While 183 through Austin is a Freeway, which means the street has a median to separate the opposite directions of traffic and no intersections, it becomes a regular highway with mainly two lanes in each direction soon after you leave Austin. But traffic is still astonishingly high. Not that I have to drive bumper-to-bumper but there is still someone ahead or in your rear-view mirror. Along the highway there is open but privat land which seam to belong to farmers but most of it isn't cultivated. Sometimes I see livestock and you can call them happy cows because each of them has probably ... read more

We promptly arrived at Dallas, or the ‘Big D’ as it likes to be known. I know what you’re thinking the D stands for Dallas, well… your wrong it stands for Disappointment, Dogshite and Debt! The plane touched down at 2pm, 5 hours before the Arena football game (AFL), between Dallas Desperados and New York, was due to start. I previously had to reschedule this flight back in the UK, especially so we could go see this game. Optimistically, I thought the ordeal with Expedia double charging me for the change in flight and the proceeding two months trying to get my money back would be the end of my troubles. How wrong I was! The airport was set between Dallas and Fort Worth and served both cities. Public transport to the cities was practically non-existent. ... read more

Well folks, as I'm sure most of you know, I'm off to India again in about a week and a half. Having gotten a fair taste of South India last summer, I'm headed to the north this year. Jaipur is a city of about 2.3 million in Rajasthan, a state to the northwest that is famous for it's desert scenery, brightly dressed people, and amazing shopping. It's about five and a half hours by train from Delhi, and the tourist capital of India. I'll be in Jaipur for three months, and I'm doing marketing and website design for a textile company that makes scarves, wraps, and a few skirts and things. I'm also going along with my boyfriend of six months, Brian, who is of Indian descent but has never seen India, so that should be ... read more

The long journey from Memphis to Houston took its toll on my back, but some of the scenery was really worth the trip and the coach was not full at all. We followed the delta and crossed over the Mississippi river several times on the way, so there was quite a bit to look at! When we reached the Greyhound station in downtown Houston we were both surprised to see so many police officers. However, as soon as we walked outside we realised why, there was an abundance of riff raff just hanging around outside the station, offering cheap ‘taxis’ amongst other things, or just asking for money!! We managed to locate a proper taxi and started our trip north of Houston to Spring. Spring is actually a separate place to Houston, however due to massive ... read more

YAY exciting! Tomorrow I will finish my last final of my junior year, and make my way into my Senior Year at Texas A&M! However... that's of no importance to this blog, the important part is that at this time next week I will be sitting on a 777, probably over the Atlantic Ocean, on my way to London :) I still haven't gotten to really even THINK about it much, although I did find out that two other girls from A&M are going to be in Seville this summer, also. They'll be doing internships with different companies, I believe. But the fact that they'll be there will be nice. They were supposed to be living in the same house I was... which none of us were really too keen on, I don't think. We all ... read more

As already mentioned in my last entry, “First Impressions”, Texas has some special roads named Farm-to-Market or Ranch-to-Market, many of these roads are signed just "Farm Road" or "Ranch Road" though. You may look this up in Wiki and find out more about it. There is also a good description and all route numbers as well at Texas Highway Routes, an unofficial site for information about Texas Highways. So today I am driving a little bit around (as almost every day) and I show you a few impressions. I take you West of US-183 to Ranch-to-Market road 620, or R.M.620 for short. It begins (or ends???) in Round Rock and crosses Austin's North at US-183. Click on picture for full image! img=ht... read more
