The long journey from Memphis to Houston took its toll on my back, but some of the scenery was really worth the trip and the coach was not full at all. We followed the delta and crossed over the Mississippi river several times on the way, so there was quite a bit to look at!

When we reached the Greyhound station in downtown Houston we were both surprised to see so many police officers. However, as soon as we walked outside we realised why, there was an abundance of riff raff just hanging around outside the station, offering cheap ‘taxis’ amongst other things, or just asking for money!! We managed to locate a proper taxi and started our trip north of Houston to Spring. Spring is actually a separate place to Houston, however due to massive urban sprawl you could really consider Spring and other surrounding areas to belong to the city of Houston. 45minutes and $50 later we met up with David (Thommo’s relative) at a gas station as the driver could not find his way (this was despite talking to his controller for the whole journey!) We finally made it to Thommo’s relatives house, it is a lovely

place, massive and very well designed, we even had our own room!

The next day we had a really nice lie in!!! When we got up we were greeted by three lovely dogs. I am normally really scared of dogs, silly childhood phobia, but these dogs were so gentle and loving. I even let one of them sit on my lap (Berkley). That evening we went to dinner in a nice restaurant with Alyssa, David’s daughter and then we went to a few bars in downtown Houston. The first one we went too was called the Red Door and was really nice and chilled out, although it didn’t get busy until 11pm. Then we went to a random live jazz music place, called Sammy’s. This place was wicked but very very hot!!! But we finally got to boogie on the dance floor, been waiting to do that for a while now.

The next morning we had another lie-in!!! Been so busy in all of the other cities that to actually have time to sit down and watch TV was amazing! Mid afternoon we went to the biggest Mall I have every seen!!! I even managed to get a

massage by some cool Chinese guy that had set up shop in the middle of the mall. My back had been pretty bad and painful the previous day and had been considering seeking a chiropractor, but the firm massage did the trick! We had some really nice food there too. That evening we got the chance to sample some Texan food, brisket, I really liked it even though it was a very strong shock to my sensitive taste buds! We also got the chance to have one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life from an original style Texan food joint, but like most of the food we have had the portions are way over sized!

Most of our time in Spring was spent chilling out in the lovely house, playing some pool in the games room and watching rubbish (but funny) TV. The heat in Spring was almost unbearable, even I found it too humid and I love the heat. I now know why everyone has a car and uses it to go even the shortest distance, the heat plus the distance is not suited to walking!

I would like to thank David’s
