We stopped in Dallas to see my grandfather, who is not doing well health wise. My brother, Jess, came in from Louisiana also. Jess picked us up at the airport and we headed over to Skippy and Grandpa’s place. Grandpa is mentally sharp and an amazing man to talk to. He became emotional as I told him about my memory box that I had sorted through. I had post cards from all over the world that he had sent me. I also had a letter from him giving the “shape up and help your mother” speech. I questioned him about his time flying during WWII. He was a “hump” pilot flying over the Himalayas from India to China to bring fuel and supplies to the Fighting Tigers, who were fighting the Japanese that were invading China. ... read more

So apart from family members and close friends, the rest of you might be bored reading this . Sorry!. We were not sure if we could make this trip till literally we woke up and got into the car. We left Hawkins after the Rotary meeting for Dallas. It was our last stop after almost a month of traveling. I don’t like to drive in Dallas and we could have saved about three hours of driving by avoiding Dallas but Linda and I wanted to see some great Rotary friends named Gilbert and Linda Brown. Gilbert and I were fellow Centennial Governors in 2004-05 Rotary year. I not only liked Gilbert personally but I have the utmost respect for his leadership abilities. One of the things I wanted to accomplish by visiting with Gilbert was talking about his Rotary year. During our term in office all of us Governors from zone 25-26 met in Scottsdale Arizona and I remembered Gilbert talking about how his year was going. I was impressed with his planning and cooperation ... read more

Yes yes I still owe you four travel logs from Europe and Tokyo and here is another one from a different continent… This time it’s not purely for fun in fact it’s mainly for business. I’m over in the states to meet up with many people which work on my project. Saying that I still managed to squeeze in some sightseeing in the heartland of the States (which voted for Bush) and later up in Denver. Dallas is the first stop and as you know me, the weird and wonderful is my thing so I am in the right place. Dallas is also known as the big D, which is at least correct when it comes to the size of the city. The city stretches forever. They really have space here and it shows outside of ... read more

Im way behind on these blogs...sorry. 11/26/2006 4:24 PM Finally made it to the club in Dallas after working our way through a couple of road closed detours. The show went well after ironing out some sound issues. There were only two bands on the bill. Everyone knew the promoter from past tours so things went smoothly. We had a moderate crowd and decent merch sales. The owner of the club was from Australia and I spent some time talking to her about platypus after she heckled Martin about Australia beating England in cricket last year. I think the most exciting thing about the show was the smoke machine setting off the fire alarm in the club about a quarter of the way through Attrition’s set. Three fire trucks and the fire chief pulled up and ... read more

Yeasterday we did a visit to Southfork Ranch in Texas which is about 30 mins by car from downtown Dallas. Southfork is the ranch where the tv-series Dallas was shot and where the Ewing family was living in the tv-series, although only the exterior parts were filmed there, the interior shots were recorded in a studio in Los Angeles. The house looked a lot smaller in reality than on TV (not that I used to follow Dallas but I watched it occasionally when I was a child). The surroundings are very beautiful though and the weather was gorgeous, sunny, blue skies and around 28 degrees. They also had a Dallas museum at the ranch with some of the original furniture and an exhibitions about the characters and the actors of Dallas. As a little surprise it ... read more

I'm in Dallas now visiting my friend Carolina, we were in university together in London. Very nice weather, on average 30 degrees celsius and not a cloud to be seen. Quite different from all other places I have been so far so I'm thoroughly enjoying the heat and the sunshine. We went on a full day sightseeing tour yeasterday and saw the place/house were US president John F Kennedy was shot in 1963. There was also a conspiracy museum one block away, there are a lot of conspiracies of who killed John F Kennedy and the museum definitely convinced me that the trial was unfair. Only one person was accused of the murder, but all the films taken that day reveal that there must have been at least three persons. We also visited the Reunion tower ... read more

It has some really great sculptures around the city including 40 steel cattle stampeding down a hill! We can also see the builidng where JFK was shot from our hotel and was given a little tour around the 'famous' spots! It is quite interesting but also quite sad!
