Today was a really lazy day! We all enjoyed a fantastic English roast dinner, thanks to Vivienne. I thought I would introduce you to the family pets. There is Monkey the hamster, who had an incredible knack of escaping from his luxury hamster home. Also, we have Major the doberman, who was the friendliest doberman by far, and rather short-sighted.... read more

Today we went to the local Mexican supermarket where we were surprised to see everything written in Spanish and English! Bought lots of food for New Year's Day. We were pleased to receive a few merry phone calls from England as they saw in the New Year. Later we went out to a bar called Austin Avenue and managed to get some drinks in just before midnight. We almost didn't get in as we didn't have any ID on us, but after a chat to the manager he kindly allowed us in. We returned to the house and cracked open the Mexican tequila which, if I remember rightly, David, Anthony, and Steven particularly enjoyed! :-)... read more

Woke early afternoon feeling a little shaky after the night before! Went for a wander around the local area and had our first visit to an American supermarket. For dinner we tried one of the favourite local dishes - ribs and chicken wings, very tasty.... read more

After a brief flight to Dallas we passed through customs quickly, after being fingerprinted and photographed for the amusement of American immigration. Met up with Theo and his wife Vivienne at the airport. I went to University in Manchester at UMIST with Theo over 13 years ago! He's been living in the States and I haven't seen him or his family for over 8 years. It certainly didn't seem like that long once we'd met up again. We drove to Theo's house in Plano, which is just north of Dallas, where we were to stay for the next week. It's a fantastic house with a pool and loads of rooms, something we don't get in England unless you're spending millions. Apparently the neighbours included the rich and famous, although we felt a bit paranoid after Theo ... read more

Texas. Generally the end of the line for us all, really. ...they have taken over.... just kidding. sort of. Had a great time with my best friend and her husband, Kit and Leslie Tomlinson. It was one of the times I felt most relaxed on the trip. Kit and Leslie have been one of the main reference points of existence at seminary the last two years. I'm very grateful for that, it would maybe have been a totally different experience without them--in fact, I might have left. They left to move to TX and help pastor a church (Les- associate, Kit- Youth Pastor) there now, very sad. It was great to see though that there really is life after seminary! They have a grown-up house, and grown-up offices and everything. Plus, the cool new cell phone ... read more

Hummm....I was going to put down some profound thoughts, but changed my mind yet again. I will say one thing about what I've discovered about travelling for a extended period of time. It's not always the cure or a solution for issues surrounding commitment. Commitment to what? Well, to anything or anyone for that matter. It is a great way to instigate more thoughts about where to go next though.... I've spent the last couple of days just reviewing picture upon picture on some 15 CDs spanning the last year of my life and all I have are these pictures and some words to accompany them. A couple of them I've managed to stitch together. For those of you whom I've met along the way, I promise your pictures will be coming your way sometime in ... read more

02/06/05 - 09/06/05: I had arranged to stay with a good family friend back in Australia, Aditya, who is working in Dallas as an engineer. Aditya was in the process of renewing his license so was unable to pick me up from the airport but I was happy to make my own way. Its good not having a plan but there were two things that were not in my favour. 1. Public transport is almost non-existent in Dallas - the car holds a special place in the heart of every Texan. Even taxis are hard to find. 2. The Dallas-Fortworth airport is the hub for interstate travel in the US and the terminal is the size of a large suburb. Tired from only having 1 hour sleep and slightly uncertain of what to do for transport ... read more

I had a dreary Dallas weekend. It was rainy and cloudy all weekend long and I seemed to be in a funk. Having been to Dallas plenty of times I just didn't feel like taking in museums or anything so Steve decided to drop me off at a certain grassy knoll and conveniently located book depository. The JFK Assassination Sight was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be. You can take a tour but in overhearing a little bit of the tour most of lectures seemed centered around conspiracy theories and not being in the mood to hear any I skipped it. We all know Elvis did it. There is an X in the middle of the road. It’s where Kennedy was first shot. At first I didn't want to take a picture ... read more

What are the chances of two Aussies getting to be amongst that!!! The stadium was packed and we were nervous and ... read more

Drove past the Battle of Alamo site where 2 many lost their lives…. Here is a bit of background on the battle…. On March 5, day twelve of the siege, Santa Anna announced an assault for the following day. This sudden declaration stunned his officers. The enemy's walls were crumbling. No Texan relief column had appeared. When the provisions ran out, surrender would remain the rebels' only option. There was simply no valid military justification for the costly attack on a stronghold bristling with cannons. But ignoring these reasonable objections, Santa Anna stubbornly insisted on storming the Alamo. Around 5:00 am. on Sunday, March 6, he hurled his columns at the battered walls from four directions. Texan gunners stood by their artillery. As about 1,800 assault troops advanced into range, canister ripped through their ranks. Staggered ... read more
