Well, I'm back in Texas after 4 weeks, I think it was, travelling!!! And I'm exhausted and I still have another 3 weeks till I'm back on English soil!!! It was an incredible journey. Driving from Dallas to San Diego, it has to be said the best part was the change of scenery and how quickly it changed!!!! San Diego was awesome, very chilled out and onto Los Angeles (City of Angels... maybe one day!). Travelling up on the Greyhound was fine and not as hair raising as people make it out to be!!!! Travelling with the poorest of poor but we're all heading in the same direction! So Los Angeles... what a hole!!!!! Oh my goodness... although I still love it..... had some amazing experiences and blessings.... then onto Sacramento to see some mates..again a ... read more

Sooooo right now I'm still in the (relatively) tame locale of Dallas, Texas, but I am doing so much reading on Ghana and Africa and a variety of potential research topics that I feel like I am already in the "field," that is, GHANA!! I am going to be arriving in Accra, the capital of Ghana, on September 1, 2006. Even after all the reading and websearching I have done, I still don't know what to expect... which is thrilling. I will be there for 3 and a half months through the School for International Training (SIT). From what I know about the program we will just be immersed in to the Ghanaian culture, starting with a homestay about a week after we arrive. Like the dork I am, I have already started practicing the language. ... read more

Hello Everybody, I promised that I would put together a travel blog to ensure that my incredible trip that I am about to embark on is captured and seen by friends and family. So be sure to check back here on a regular basis for updates. I am currently in Dallas, TX, not a place that I ever thought that I would find myself in. But I am out here spending time with with my girlfriend Felicia, who I get to see very little of due to geographical constraints. But I really like the city ... a look of very beautiful people and lots and lots of money every where you look ... its surreal sometimes ... As you all know by now, I quit my job at Accu-Tech Corporation after working there for nearly 4 ... read more

After a 7 hour night flight from Heathrow to JFK - NY, with continous sunshine, and me trying to sleep on the 3 seats I had.. jammie... I suddenly saw a pink, red and orange band connecting the horizon with the end of the earth. I looked down and saw New York as we flew round to land. It was everything I never expected it to be. Lots of water with pockets of land and then there below me I saw Manhatten Island and the skyline that is so familiar. The city looked so peaceful from the air with its lights twinkling, and I thought everything looks so much better in the dark as it marks the character of people's conceptions of New York. We landed and waited at the airport for about 2 hours before ... read more

After packing and unpacking and packing some more, I have finally started my short time off to get to Portland. Ideally it would have been great to take my time across the Southwestern portion of these United States, but I stopped all of 6 hours or so the entire time through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Mostly only because I had to find toilet facilities. I can't decide if it was because I was determined not to get dehydrated along the way or if it's signs of getting older. Sigh. It was definitely strange to have to stop at a gas station more often for myself than my car.... So there are a couple of pictures from along the way. I decided to go the US 40 route, the old Route 66, rather than the US ... read more

Travel has begun! I made it to Dallas last night at 12:30 am after taking forever to leave Kansas. I guess I just couldn't get enough Kansas in me :) (it's not like I've lived there for 23 years or anything!). So far I haven't really done anything but sleep, but I'm sure today and tomorrow will be really fun. I'm going apartment shopping and need to pick up some things for Europe still. My cell phone is officially off, so if anybody would like to talk to me you have to e-mail me a time for me to call you and hopefully I get the e-mail and can call you back. Hope you all are having a fantastic time!! Take care!... read more
