Howdy y'all.... Thankyou so much for all of your comments on the website- we promise that we have been checking it regularly but this is really the first chance that we've had to update it! Its a busy life being a hard core traveller... Well as we currently sit, we are just leaving Texas this afternoon for the Grand Canyon for a few days and gambling the rest of our money away in Vegas- we really could be back sooner than we thought... We've been away for 6 weeks today and while the time has flown by, it feels like months too. It's 3:25am here in the suburbs, the wife's in the shower, the kolaches are minutes away from being heated-up in my mom's kitchen, and we're heading for DFW International Airport within the half-hour to check-in for our 6:30 flight to Beijing via Toronto 23 hours later. I'm trippin' on this right now. Of course, I slept zero point zero last night, instead maniacally printed maps and making copies of passports, the stuff. NO-SLEEP-'TILL-BEIJING! (not Brooklyn). Seriously, I'm crashing-out on one of those planes, and I hope I don't embarrass Pachi too much with all of the snoring I'm going to do. Yikes. Am I really about to go to China? After that we turned towards Jackson Miss. Then at Jackson we hit I20 and kept on rolling. We had planned to stay in Tyler TX but when we got there we decided to brave Dallas at a slow time which was a good Idea. Now it is 11:00 pm and we are all tired and waiting on Pizza and wings. This is my third trip on the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston. People ask me why I repeat the same cruise so many times. Well, there is a lot to do in the three ports we visit but only a short time to do them. So, each time I visit I do something different. Last year the weather was bad and we visited an alternate port, Progresso, Yucatan, Mexico instead of Jamaica. That was an interesting port. If the weather had not given me the opportunity to visit Progresso, I probably would never have visited there. We visited a real working ranch with vaqueros who gave us a roping and riding show in their own bull ring. Friday, May 25th, 2007 - Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas Gas prices are expected to reach its peak during this Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial starting date for 2007 summer traveling season for millions of Americans. According to today’s edition of USA Today, 1 out of 8 Americans are traveling more than 50 miles from their home this weekend; a staggering number of 38 millions travelers, of which 32 millions are driving with their gas-devouring motorized vehicles. I found myself being caught among the rest 6 millions American travelers who opted for air transportation this weekend. Either way, gasoline demand is at its highest, and I witnessed the average gasoline price in Atlanta to be $3.11/gallon, compared to $3.24/gallon nationally. Day 21 – Sunday – Dallas, Texas Hi Y'all. I am lurvin' Texas. Hehhee. So the adventure continues! This morning was an early start (lord I am looking forward to a sleep in!!) as Jess & I left for the airport at about 6:30. Agh. I flew from Austin up to Dallas. By the way, all the flights I did were with Southwest Airlines (as per Jessica's recomendations) and I had nothing but good experiences in all three flights, and through all of the airports at New Orleans, Houston, Dallas & Austin. I got in to the hotel at about 10:30am and promptly fell asleep for an hour or two while Dean did some laundry (bless him!). Greetings from Dallas! Grant was graduating from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a Business Administrative degree, so it was a Groher reunion time once again. This was the second time I hung out with the Grohers (after our first meeting in Redland, California), and they always welcomed me. We managed to attend Grant’s commencement over the SMU campus, so I had a chance to get acquainted with SMU Mustangs. The subsequent celebration over the French Marketplace was enjoyable, notably for its Mojitos. In March, my parents come over from Prague and I flew from Milwaukee to Dallas to see my sister and her husband. This would be the first time we had all been together since my sister's wedding in December. We were all eager to see my sister's new house and take in the sights of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. But... it wasn't long until the trip took an unexpected turn. Due to weather concerns in the Midwest I was not able to make it all the way to Dallas on the first try. Some of you might be saying “What about Houston?” I am omitting that city due to a complete lack of anything interesting. We visited their number one tourist attraction which is a shopping mall that is the 4th biggest in the USA. The last night we were there Emma had to leave for her next destination, AFTRS in Sydney, so now all you hear about is Ian and Nick’s antics. Emma, you’re calming voice of reason will be sorely missed. We rolled into Dallas, or The Big D as the locals call it, and headed straight downtown via the trusty (but not so frequent) train service.
