Here's a great idea, kids! Let's take Grandma's ashes to her final resting place in Wichita, then pop over to Tennessee and see your sister's new house, and then us gals'll pile into the car and head on down to Savannah! Whaddya say? It was a whirlwind, but it was, all-in-all, really kind of fun. Except. Well, except for the showdown at DFW over "consolidating" our carry-on items. One, the Grandma herself, was actually about as consolidated as any of us could ever hope to be; seein' as how she was in a box carried in a vintage PanAm bag. (The vehicle of choice, in this family, for transporting a relative to their final destination. In the physical world, anyway.) No other airport gave us this kind of hassle, and that includes San Diego, Wichita, and ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We left Norman, and our gracious host R, before it got too late in the morning. Onaxthiel was glad to be away from cats, though as it turned out, that relief would be short-lived. We drove south, with Dallas as our intended destination for the day. Along the way, we started getting distracted by roadside billboards that kept advertising interesting sounding things. In the town of Paul's Valley, OK, there's a Toy and Action Figure Museum. We detoured for a while to check it out, but found that at 9:30 AM on an Easter Sunday morning, surprise surprise, it was closed. It looked like it might have opened up at 1:00 PM, but we didn't really feel like waiting, so we moved on. Judging from what we could see in the front windows though, ... read more

Post Secondary Agriculture Student Organization Competition Now you know why it is called PAS This last week I was able to attend PAS, in Dallas Texas. This is the national competition for PAS chapters in the US. For more information on PAS you can go to their site at www.nationalpas.org At first I didn't even want to go. So much is going on at school and in life that I didn't want to worry about it. My advisor talked me into it though. I felt like since I am the Ag/Hort club president and was able to go on the leadership trip in the fall that I had to go to set an example. First we had our state competition, which was kinda a joke because there was a really bad snow storm and we ... read more

Hello there Yeap. Not much to report from the land of cowboys and armadillos, since this isn't my usual type of entry, from some interesting place somewhere in the world. But again, this is a professioanl trip, and the destination is certainly not the main issue. I am in Dallas for a conference on diabetes, the disease I have a passion to try to help patients control. On my way here I luckly escaped, by a matter of hours, the tragic mess created in Atlanta by the severe storms and tornados. Well! I don't think there is much to see and write about from here, besides the site where president John F Kennedy was assassinated. From my hotel room window I can see the street where it happened and even "the window on the 6th floor" ... read more

I really tried to get up for breakfast, really I did. But I turned off my alarm, and went to sleep. Then the housekeeping lady knocked just shortly after 9 A.M. Yuck. As she started asking what we needed and whether or not we needed housekeeping. Let me tell you, my Spanish does not work so well in the morning. I worked all day pretty much, doing paperwork and whatnot. I also watched the speech of a professor from Carnegie-Mellon University. He was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given 3-6 months of healthy living, and he gave his final lecture. It was very interesting. Apparently Oprah found out about it and had him on. You can find his long lecture online and his Oprah one is on youtube (the ABC one is much better than ... read more

Today was a good day. We woke up and went to church, Beth and I. I picked the church, and it was one I had heard of when I was in Germany- the worship pastors were with us. I checked out the website too, seemed a very Life Centerish church- big, modern, contemporary. This was only the 3rd time I’ve made it to church in the last 8 weeks or so, and I didn’t at all realize how much I’d missed it. The atmosphere was great, casual, and people were lingering. I half-expected to see someone I knew come around the corner. They’ve only been in their building a few months, from what it sounds, but the service was almost seamless. Worship was great. A good time to enter in, with a real band and real ... read more

This morning, I woke up and Sarah was putting one of the girls in our shower. I asked her to wake me when she was done. After a few minutes, Sarah told me it was time to get up. Reluctantly so early in the morning, I started moving. Then she told me the news- oh, by the way, there’s snow outside. Yahoo! I ran across the house to see it! The kids, and most of the adults, were thoroughly unimpressed by the snow. (Thursday, there was a winter storm warning for our area- they were expecting 1-2 inches, which, I explained, was not at all a storm.) We said our goodbyes to Uncle Brother Doug and his family and friends- people who served us so faithfully and humbly for so long. I also put the kids ... read more

Lots and lots of sleep today. So nice. Went to lunch. Craig said we had to go to the Ryder shop to look at something. I didn’t quite understand why but was game for anything. As we started driving, I sort of paying attention, sort of not. But I did notice that we got off at the exit for the zoo. “No, we’re going to the Ryder shop.” And we took the turn to the zoo, and ended up next to the zoo. Woohoo! We went to the zoo! So much fun! Gorillas, orangutans, lions, birds, snakes (Beth doesn’t like snakes), antelope… There was even a whole section devoted to animals that live in Texas- including long horn cattle. Work at the hotel, dinner at a Mexican restaurant with live music of people singing various popular ... read more

Before I decided to try my luck at CRM, I was warned that there could be periods of time when projects might be few and far between. With the recent troubles at TXDot, a major source of funding to the CRM firm where I am currently employed, many projects were either put on hold or scrapped altogether. Winter is typically slow for CRM firms anyway. This period of inactivity has also coincided with a major change in my life. My husband and I seperated at the beginning of the year, and I have been preoccupied with the business of setting myself up in an apartment and with the upcoming sale of our house. I have also been practicing with my camera to keep myself from getting too bored. Thankfully I am scheduled to start working at ... read more
