The Book Depository
Lee Harvey Oswald took his shots from the 6th floor of the building...or did he? I had a dreary Dallas weekend. It was rainy and cloudy all weekend long and I seemed to be in a funk. Having been to Dallas plenty of times I just didn't feel like taking in museums or anything so Steve decided to drop me off at a certain grassy knoll and conveniently located book depository.
The JFK Assassination Sight was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be. You can take a tour but in overhearing a little bit of the tour most of lectures seemed centered around conspiracy theories and not being in the mood to hear any I skipped it. We all know Elvis did it.
There is an X in the middle of the road. It’s where Kennedy was first shot. At first I didn't want to take a picture next to the marker out of respect for the fallen but after seeing whole families stand at the X for family portraits I decided maybe I could swallow some reverence and just go ahead and take the darn picture. I felt really uncomfortable doing it though. You need to wait until traffic clears to take the picture and even then there's some unspoken
X Marks the Spot
The "X" marks the spot where JFK got shot. law of taking your turn politely. So keep that in mind if you ever visit. Try not to give a thumbs up though.
Afterwards we went to Reunion Tower. If you've ever seen pictures of the Dallas skyline then you have seen the iconic Reunion Tower with its lighted ball tower looking like some space age futuristic city landscape. The Tower is great and cheap to go to but there really isn't much to do at the top unless you are going there to eat a fancy meal or go to one of the clubs. We weren’t doing either, so we just walked around and looked at the dreary Dallas skyline look all gray and muted in the clouds and fog.
