Had finished my blog sent today during my lunch break today and forgot about news from friends! Kim and Jay set cruise last weekend for Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel! Tracee and her friends set off on the same cruise I think. Hopefully they will recognize each other (if they run into each other) from our bus trip to Plantersville last fall. Patricia and Harry are playing in Arizona to return next week. Nancy, who stays packed for trips, is off next week with Elaine to Puerto Rico. I'd join them if I weren't trying to get to Texas about that time. Kim and Tommy will be back from Nashville soon. Sorry you have to go back to work, guys. Melissa has a wonderful new job and EOM (call her not me!). Maurine, ... read more

Hello all ! Just a weekly update. No pics developed yet. Soon I promise. Have had some very busy times at work getting things together for audit this week. Audit progressing nicely too. Last week I went to Progreso again with my friend. I introduced him to my friends there, relaxed on beach, ate and drank for hours. Last Saturday evening I went with some co-workers to see the presentation of 'Descubriends Irlanda', an Irish dance performance (in Mexico!) in which another co-worker and her sister were part of. The theater at the Instittute of Yucatan was beautiful and old! 6 chairs to a booth, 3 in each of 2 rows. We were 4 stories up and you had to lean over the railing and look almost straight down to see the stage. I had charge ... read more

Thought I'd share a little more.. Electric bill here at the apt (and I've read that it's common for houses too) comes only every two months. Beto, my apt manager, gave me mine for the last two months. Everybody sitting down or holding on to something??? Mine is $206.00. That's pesos not US Dollars. That's $20.60 (really less with exchange rate). Isn't that great!!?? Course I'm not here 8 to 5 during the weekdays, but on the weekend days it hasn't been too hot when I'm here. Not even as hot as Mauriceville because I can leave my back door open when I'm home (no screen door but no bugs yet) and the windows (screened and levered) are always open. And I have ceiling fans. Nights are really comfy. Sometimes wish I'd brought a robe. And ... read more

My FM3 paperwork (work visa) was sent to me at 5pm on Friday. I was so excited! Now (Monday) it may be going to crap unless the company I work with does magic. Otherwise, I'll just have to keep renewing my visitor's permit. (Nope. I won't do immigration bashing since I'm not in my country although I'm perfectly legal here.) Saturday A.M. headed to the beach again. No real beach time this day. Was looking for shoe shop (shoes? who me?) that I had found in January before I moved (temp) down here. Alas, I didn't find it but had a great time walking and looking. Took some more pictures and even finished a roll I had started last month. I promise to develop soon when..... Tried my ATM before leaving Merida. Think my Beaumont bank ... read more

By Pattusa May 24th 2007 Walked a little this afternoon late to snap some shots then it thundered! You know me! I hightailed it home!! I really need to take a photography class because I suck at taking pictures. I know it's not the cameras and I haven't been drinking... Please note that it hasn't thundered again since I got home. Guess God was just telling me to get off the streets! Yes, Sir.... read more

Work is progressing nicely. Have had many lovely telephone calls this week and love hearing from y'all. Speaking of the calls. Verizon couldn't satisfy my questions about an international plan before I left Texas in March (but then everything was so hurried) that I left my plan as is and will just pay the roaming charges. Well, after 8 weeks here, I guess they said, Hey, she's in Mexico, so now my message center is in Spanish and I can't get to voice mail. So, be sure your number will show up as a missed call and not as unknown if you want me to call back. Sorry you three unknowns that called today. But the other loves that did this afternoon, thanks. It has finally rained here every day this week. For about an hour ... read more

Returned from Valladolid this afternoon and glad to get back. It's hot there! And we were working 11 and 12 hr days so the hotel restraurant with cold beers (only til 10 mind you) was all I got to do. I can suck down a lot of SOLs between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm ! I took a couple of pictures of the hotel with the new cheap digital and either it has suntan oil from a time when I opened the package or it's just out of focus, but nevertheless I'll attach some pics. No, Mitch, I am NOT spending big bucks for a real digital til I can manage a throwaway! Little info: You cannot sell beer/liquor before 11 am (no hard liquor at all on Sundays), and cannot sell it except in ... read more

I hope I get to stay here forever! I've been busy this weekend and now home and need to wash clothes, dishes and apartment before I leave for Valladolid (the plant) in the morning. Don't want the housekeeper to find a dirty house! Will be at the plant for several days and don't know if I'll have internet service, so if any of you email me and I don't answer you'll know why. And I love everyone's emails so keep 'em coming. I do miss all of you - even in paradise. :) I'm taking enough clothes (poor guys I'm going to the plant with) that if our work takes us through Friday, I may just rent a car (somewhere) and go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. May decide to go there for the weekend ... read more

Places to stay Maison Lafitte hotel PLACES TO VISIT/SEE anthropology Museum Merida From Chichen Itza to Merida and on to the Hotel Maison Lafitte, which will be our home for the next two days. The town has very narrow streets, and each street alternates a one-way direction. Being a tourist, learning this system was very helpful. With a million residents, Merida is the largest city on the Yucatan. After settling at the hotel we visited the Museum of Anthropology. This museum houses one of the finest collections of Mayan artifacts in the Yucatan. It is an excellent complement to a visit to any of the archaeological si... read more
