Today was the last day of our Brand Czech/Brand USA class. So that's 3 credit hours under my belt for this trip :) This morning we had a meeting with the MU study abroad coordinator, our US Brand professor, and the professors for our next class. It was boring and a little pointless, but that's OK. After that, we visited a pretty cool ad agency. We came in at like 11:00 a.m. and they served us beer (I don't do pivo before lunch) and talked about their clients (beer) and some other stuff. Overall, it was pretty cool. We went to lunch with the US students (the Czech students are done) and our professor bought, so that was very nice. Then we went to our professor's son's ad agency for a little bit. He talked about ... read more

well... i figured i would go ahead and write a little something since i won't be able to update again until sunday. today we met up at 9:00, and met our teachers for the next class which we will start on monday. this should be an exciting class! it's czech culture and history, and our teachers are two phd candidates. they're fun and young, and want our class to be a good time. for example, tuesday we'll be taking an overnight trip to the town of olomouc (which is where one of them went to college)! that should be fun. more on that class later... after a quick meeting with them, sandy told us we had an hour before leaving for this ad agency, and so after much deliberation my friends and i decided we could ... read more

Europe July 20th 2006

We left Nice this morning to make our way following in the footsteps of Napoleon as he escaped from exile in Elbe. Once he landed on the shores of the Cote d' Azur, he made his way to Paris via Grenoble. This route has since been known as the Route Napoleon, and was made into a highway in 1932. We stopped for lunch in Castellane, a nice town amongst the French Alps, with a small river crossing, complete with Rapids that would provide many hours of enjoyment. We waved goodbye to that standard Pizza, Pasta, Salad & Desert for some tasty Tuna Salad Baugettes, washed down with some Leffe Beer!! During the lunch stop, we took the opportunity to take our first group photo!! Check out the group in the Gallery Section!! We have also included ... read more

Thanks Nadja for emailing my friends.......and my professors.... It was quite helpful for me. It is still hard to type here and these computers freeze quite a bit and really have trouble with groupwise, which is why I asked her or Stacie to do it... but I didn't expect any professors to ever read my blog, so let's hope they don't. If any of them actually bring that agony upon themselves, I apologize in advance, especially for my unending indecisiveness. I also intend to blame all spelling and grammar mistakes on my keyboard or the fact that I write stuff in this blog that is from my personal journal written in German. Some may notice that I edited my first entry to clean up lazy word choice and typos, etc. Hahahaha. Carissa, I love your comment. ... read more

Well here we are in Dublin and have had a good start to this leg of the journy. I just finished reading the previous blog and now I will continue on with what we were up to. So we had a great time with Claire and Max and were sad to go. There were much huggs and many promises to return and visit at a later point. Max was the one to drive us to the airport because he has a GPS system that tells him where to go and it worked wonderfuly. We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and went to check the board. There was no flight to Dublin....... hum........... now what..... Off to the information desk and they sent us to the desk for Ryan Air and found ... read more

So for once we'ver slowed our trip down a little bit. The lazy train ride to Frankfort gave us pleny of time to relax and write another 10 pages in our journals. Then last night we went to Mainz's (a city outside Frankfort) "old town" for a nice dinner at a German place. Then we booked our train reservations to/from Paris and our hostel there as well. We don't really know where the hostel is but have a hand scribbled map that I'm sure will get us there no problem ... nooo problem. I sit now in a 100 degree internet cafe sipping a delicious Paulaner Hefe-weizen. It's 9:15 Thursday evening and we've been just killing time walking around the city and napping by the river since 4. It's the first time I really felt like ... read more

... read more

Seeing the Netherlands by boat is a magnificent way to get an appreciation for the lifestyle here. Today we hired a boat and cruised all through the canals of Leiden, Oegstgeest, and Haarlem. The boat we had was called a sloop, and fit 6 of us in comfort while we puttered around. The city is very beautiful from the water, and there are some amazing homes set right on the edge of the canals. Meandering down the canals on a hot summers day, beer in hand is a tough way to live life. Every part of the city is accessible by canal, so theoretically you dont need a car to get to almost any place in the country. It is also customary that you must wave and say hi to all other boaters as you pass. ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cambridgeshire » Cambridge July 20th 2006

Last night I met up with Ling in Cambridge, a city comprised of 31 colleges. A real, live castle houses each college! Seriously, can you imagine going to school in a castle built in 1400? Each castle has its own character-- famous alumni (Trinity-Prince William), gorgeous gardens (Pembroke), sinfully beautiful chapels (King's). As you walk up the main street, you nearly always have a castle on either your left or right side. After class with Ling (I've attended Cambridge now!) and dinner in the dining hall (unlike Berkeley dining halls, truly a "hall" with a four-story high ceiling and adorned walls and ceiling to boot), we headed off to play (read "watch") cricket. The cricket field happened to lie about 4 miles from the college, so we (Ling, me, and Ling's friend) had a good 40 ... read more
