Rome was GREAT...i ended up staying at the apartment with Leah´s family after Sorrento, which was good, because i was trying to get to Greece, but with the million trains that i would have had to take from Napoli it didnt work out...sad...but it was really nice to go to authentic italian restaurants with leah´s family and try new italian foods...SOOO delicious!! i bought my first souvenier (a really cute vintage skirt that i will probably wear as a dress instead) and some books...dad, i finished Pillars of the Earth, which was REALLY good!!! i was glad to have a really long, epic book to read, especially because it was about cathedral building and such...made me appreciate the architecture i am surrounded by even more! i also read...'a heartbreaking work of staggering genius', 'the virgin suicides', ... read more

Last night my friend Sarah's window was broken at about 11:30 pm by a group of kids...or so we think. I was in the kitchen with Tamsin eating toast when Sarah came in looking like she was going to cry. Evidently she'd gotten up to work on a piece of writing when a loud blast hit her window. There are like five or six little holes that look like they came from an air pistol. Anyhow, we had to call security; Allastair, our security guard is the coolest guy ever. He's round around the middle with a slight comb over and the bright yellow slicker outfit that is so popular for security here. He ran out immediately and got the head resident. Supposedly, the police are coming to the dorm today to investigate. Poor Sarah has ... read more

01 July 06 I had been so excited for this day to come. Everyone at work knew when Canada Day was. It was even at the point where when I walked into work that morning one of the girls (Irish) wished me a Happy Canada Day. I made sure that I took the night off work and the next day as well. Jay and I met up when I finished work. We went to my place where we started to put on Canada day tattoos that Mom had sent me. Jirka and Monika (friend from Czech who is here for a few weeks) even joined in! Jay and I went to the hostel for a bit then we had to meet up with Jirka, Kamila and Monika. It felt weird walking around all excited for Canada ... read more

One thing that I have learned here is you can never take any thing for granted. If you want to do something do it. Don't wait around and say you will do it later there will always be time. I say this because you never know what life is going to hand you. The next major thing occurred here on 23 June 06. This was probably the most heartbreaking thing that has happened to me. A good friend of mine, Jim (James) Brooks died. He had had some drinks the night before and was put to bed by some of his friends because he was falling asleep in his chair. They made sure to lie him in his side so he couldn't swallow his tongue or his throw up. The next morning he was found dead ... read more

Well guys, we're in Paris now. Took our own home made walking tour yesterday in 35 degree heat that lasted 6 hours and 10km. We pretty much walked around the entire downtown area, and saw all the major sights. We almost missed our train coming from Amsterdam, when we had to connect in Brussels. The train was almost 30 minutes late, but our connecting train was also 15 minutes late, making for a mad dash through the station! We were sweating like crazy as we literally fell onto the train. Close call. Our hotel is right near the Sacre Coeur church, which is cool, and also near the red light district. We didn't go there. The view is pretty awesome from the hill, and you can see some pics when we're back. Right now I have ... read more

Geo: 46.2781, 13.8593Mariah, Maeve, Carlos and a new solo traveller- Alex (Mexican) and I walked to the bus station to get our bus. It was a really comfy bus and I fell asleep at once. The other girls couldn't sleep on buses- they were on bus stop lookout. After an hour we arrived at Lake Bled. It is beautiful, a smallish lake, island in the middle with a church on it and a castle up high overlooking the lake. We were going to get the boat to the island, but it was much cheaper to row ourselves- so we did. We hired a rowboat and I said from the start that I can't row. Mariah and Maeve started rowing. They had a bit of difficulty at the start as we were slowly heading towards the island, ... read more

Geo: 40.4167, -3.70325Had a peach for breakfast (unripe and gross) and a yogurt drink at Plaza Mayor. Both my pens have burst - is it the heat? Julia, you need to buy better pens!!! Getting slightly used to the horrendous heat. It's becoming slightly manageable. The first bad sign of the day - I felt rain drops, but saw no clouds. Birds were flying overhead. I think they pissed on me. It could've been worse, I guess - like maybe getting saturation bombed in a hailstorm of their collective crap! Can you tell what an optimist I am?I had another calamari sandwich for lunch - I'm already getting sick of them. I also had some Mazapan - Toledo is supposedly famous for it. Crappy. Definitely not as yummy as the hotel girls from Toledo - they are ... read more
