May 12 my friend & I left Pittsburgh and joined a tour group with Cosmos. We booked it in December. We started off in Frankfurt, Germany then off to Berlin for 2 nights, 2 nights in Warsaw, Poland and 2 in Krakow. Our bus only drove through the country of Slovakia; then 2 nights in Budapest, one night in Vienna, 2 in Prague, one in Munich and our last night in Frankfurt. 5 countries and 14 days to see it may seem like not enough time, but I feel that we saw the highlights. I have already done 2 tours with Globus and it is nice not to have to drag your luggage around and having someone else do the driving while enjoying the sights of the countryside. All of the breakfasts were included as well ... read more

I just wanted to post a blog about what everything is like just living here. First of all, we weren't able to get off-post housing. They've started a new policy here that everyone "regardless of rank or circumstance" must live on post as long as they can accommodate your housing needs (i.e. number of bedrooms). Since we don't have kids we qualify for a 2 bedroom and they had plenty of those :( So, we're on post. We're living in the back of the neighborhood and there are 6 apartments (yes, apartments) in our building. We picked the 3rd floor...our side of the stairwell is all 2 bedroom apartments but the other side is all 3 and 4 bedrooms so they all have kids. Living upstairs eliminates the amount of traffic that goes screaming past ... read more

We have now been traveling for exactly one month.. Crazy eh? We arrived in Barcelona yesterday morning and it is sooo beautiful. The weather is pretty much perfect and our hostel is awesome as well. Not as cool as the last one, but I think that one will be hard to beat. We had to take a night train from Seville which actually wasn´t as bad as we thought it was going to be. We got to sleep in one of those cabins with the bunk beds in them.. Haha the beds were more comfortable than some of our hostel beds. Oh I forgot.. So when we were about ready to get on the train, we got cut off and stuck behind 2 110 year old ladies... No joke. 110. We were headed down the escalator ... read more

Its lunch time Sunday and I’m back in London, the weather here has been mixed since I arrived back last Friday, showers in between bursts of sunshine however today its taken a turn back to winter . I had an amazing time in Spain developed new friendships and am so glad that I decided to come over here if initially studying Spanish each day was a little difficult. My limited vocabulary was my weakness during that first week in the language school yet it’s amazing how rapidly it developed mixing with both Spaniards and my friends studying Spanish in the language school. I will now work hard to maintain my friendships and we have agreed to regularly email each other (in Spanish) to keep up the practice. Living in Madrid with both friends and a ... read more

After many hours on a plane, we finally made it in to Prague. The connection in Frankfurt was tight, since security in Frankfurt is high and the flight from Vancouver left late. Luckily we made it, and were happy to finally be off of planes by around 2PM Sunday. First things first! A nap at the hotel: meant to be an hour but ended up being two. Just as well as Sheila got a tummy ache - not sure if this was from bad plane food or a small flu bug. Either way, the nap helped somewhat! Prague is beautiful. At around 6PM we left the hotel to wander along the river, which eventually led us to one of the most popular tourist destinations: Charles Bridge. It is lined with gorgeous statues and the ground ... read more

Positano, the celebrity sighting capital of the world. Europe » Italy » Amalfi By michellemanireMay 12th 2007michelle manire So far, we've run into Frank Copolla, Captain Jack Sparrow, the Old Man in the Sea, Sylvester Stallone, & Valerie Bertinelli, to name a few. We signed a confidentiality agreement upon arrival to this tiny town out of respect for the privacy of the many celebrities we may come across. Statistics show that 1 out of 5 people surveyed here in Positano are celebrities. Perhaps that's why people keep asking for our autographs as they gaze in a questionable manner, forever wondering if we really are who we say we are....or someone else. ... read more

Once again I was up early taking “Chet”, my German Shepherd Dog out for a walk before I headed off for the day on the bike. Today was the Bike Safe course that I’d booked onto quite a while since and something that I’d been looking forward to. The course was run by the South Yorkshire Police and was to commence at 8-am sharp from the SY police workshops at Chapletown near Sheffield and was to finish at 5-pm later that day at the operations centre at Catcliffe, Sheffield, the place where the Egg Run started from a couple of months since. I was one of the first to arrive with the others students and police motorcyclists arriving soon after me including one officer on new police Honda Fireblade. The theory lasted about 2-hours and ... read more

I finally made it to Belfast and to the hostel after the usual unguided lap of the city. Just when I thought that Dublin was good Belfast has snuck on in there. After arriving a little late into town I went in search of food, not wanting to dine on the finest kebebs that Belfast could offer the choice was down to KFC. Oh well it had to happen sooner or later. The hostel was conveniently located around the corner from the Golden Mile or one of Belfast's main pub strips. This was a handy distraction to have around the corner. After the usual menial tasks, it was time to venture out and see what Saturday night in Belfast had to offer. From first looks the bar looked good, all the Hens nights that didn't make ... read more

Harrods: Personally, I feel this is the only department store in London that is worth going to. First, this store is huge! The first time I went to Harrods, I got lost for about 5 hours. My friends and I did not have cell phones at the time and each floor has multiple wings. Second, the building is very old and there is so much history in the store. I felt like I was going back in time. Combine that feeling along with the best luxury fashion and you have a WINNER! All of the department stores really don't influence London fashion. Like the US, these stores are massive and really sell the latest trends that will guarantee the store a profit. Other well known stores around London: 1. Debenhams 2. Marks and Spencer’s 3. ... read more
