Greetings all. For those of you who don't know I've finally returned to the wonderful state of living that is a proper overseas holiday. This holdiay consists of a month travelling around Europe, primarily in the Mediterranean. The first week I'm staying in cheap hostels and with relatives. The last three weeks I'm staying in five star hotels and on the cruise ship the Grand Princess. Which will I prefer, hostels or luxury? Only time will tell . . . Before we go further with this blog I'll quickly explain a few things. I make no guarantees that any stories/people/events/claims/photos that contained herein are in any way factual or fictional. I'm on holiday for a month, which means I plan to spend as little time in front of a computer and as much time being ... read more

Relaxed after a long weekend, and only a teasing Tuesday of work, where I at least pretended to answer some calls and shot some emails, I was back on holiday Wednesday putting complete faith in my friend Erin who had organized the whole trip for her husband Dan, his friend Tim and of course, me! I was so relaxed about it all, that I in fact had no idea what times the flights even where! I just knew that I was to met Ez at London Bridge at 4pm. It was only there that I discovered with a train ride, shuttle bus and checking with security that our plane was taking off in less than 3 hours.. Hmmm.. All of a sudden, not feeling so relaxed! We were meeting Tim at the airport, who was ... read more

Buon Giorno. I'm here back at the good ol' Syracuse University computer lab and I decided to update all of you on my final days here in Europe, though I will be home in only a day and a few hours. Exciting! It seems I left you way back in Venice. It seems so long ago. I suppose I'll start at Cinque-Terre... Cinque-Terre is a national park on the northern coast. They are 5 small fishing villages with many, many hiking trails throughout the cliffs. We spent a good 3 days hiking various trails, and the last day walking through all 5 towns in succession. Luckily the Mediterranean Sea was waiting for me at the end of that very up and down hill hot-hot-hot hike. I got to swim in its delicious water for the first ... read more

Still laughing the next morning, this time at the pathetic ness of Dan who was feeling the pain of trying to keep up with his new friends, the Italian students, 10 years his junior, Erin and I left the boys to sulk and we headed back out to the beach to work on our tans and do a bit of wandering on our own, down to the marina and past the BMW training school and into the most gorgeous handcrafted mask store! Before going back to the apartment, we ventured to the tourist office in search of Flamenco dancing, where we thought we struck gold with a brochure to a Tango night for only €5 and had the officer draw a map of the location for that night and set out to buy them before ... read more

Hiking TripThe Conley Family Greetings from beautiful Sevilla, where the skies are (almost) always sunny and the children (at least our's) are definitely above average. Some highlights from the last few days. We had a great visit over the weekend from Angie's friend Rebecca, who lives and works in London. I took the kids on a hiking trip on Saturday to give Angie some girl time. The kids and I had lots of fun: we took a two-hour train ride, hiked in and through a stream where we caught tadpoles and Tommy fashioned a very effective looking fish spear; and I introduced them to hitch-hiking as we caught a ride with a nice couple in a pick-up truck up 8 kms of a steep mountain rode to a nearby village. The kids picked wildflowers for Mother's ... read more

After a good night sleep in the berg we got out of bed early so we could go paddling before our long car trip to Brat. Paddling was good fun......was awsome to get back on that course. After paddling we set off from the course to Brat which is a good 6 hour car trip but it wasnt too bad as we were enjoying the pleasent scenery. It Brat there is no such thing as pleasent scenery...its pretty much the biggest hole on the earth but the paddling is good. Paddled 3 times so far and have paddled resonably well which is good. The course is pretty big and has the biggest last drop you have ever seen, its nickname is "Niagra Falls" there has been some fair carnage on it including mark breaking a paddle. ... read more

highs got my first glimpse of the eiffel tower lows i'm in a mixed dorm and there's no door on the bathroom, just a shower curtain people i've met 3 people in my dorm room (didnt ask their names) - a guy from melbourne, a girl from sydney & a guy from india I left Bec's today and caught the Eurostar to Paris, which I would highly recommend over flying anyday. I then caught the Paris Metro to my hostel, which was much easier than I thought it would be. I walked out of the Metro station and tried to orientate myself and in the end just followed my nose. I came to where I thought the hostel should be and there was a big staircase right in front of me. I then had to decide ... read more

Greetings from Dublin! It seems crazy to believe, but we are finally here! It's happening! and it's COLD!!! When we landed in Dublin it was 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Brr! But, we got our flight changed to Turkey (yay!) and (finally) found and checked into our hostel. Which is pretty nice: a private bath & shower with HOT water! We spent the day taking a giant nap and then wandering around Dublin. Can't wait to get more into things tomorrow. In a haircutting accident, I, John, had to correct some mistakes by shaving my head. I look like the Comic book supervillan, Bullseye, who is incidentally Irish. My head is cold. Another kind of funny thing (the above is funny to me as I, Janie, still have all my hair is that I thought we ... read more
