We woke up late today and just watched movies. We didn’t really understand anything, but it was hilarious. They were like Austin Power movies, so funny! Right after eating lunch, we went on a sight-seeing boat trip. It was really cold! It reminded us of the trip we took to New York. When we went to New York, we went on something like this boat trip we took today. It was a two-decker boat that went around the whole Manhattan Island. It was really cool because we got to see beaches and forests that I never knew were there. The same happened today on our boat tour. There were a lot of things that looked the same, so it became a little boring. We were freezing, sitting on the top deck; we were just doing whatever ... read more

Sophomore year I signed up for a May term in Europe and what an experience it was! I spent almost three weeks traveling to four different countries and being a total tourist, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My professor took us around going to many museums, churches and a handful of other extremely interesting places. We prepared ourselves for a few months and then in May it was time to head out. From New Jersey the flight was nearly seven hours long and not very enjoyable, but besides that the trip is certainly worth it. We landed in Frankfurt and then took another hour long flight to Venice. Since there are no streets in Venice, the Grand Canal takes you throughout the city. It is the major water traffic corridor in the city ... read more

"Hello is Mrs Bent..ivg..olio.. there?" People mess up my last name allllll the time. In fact, if you don't, I am immediately impressed and automatically like you. Italy knows me! Italy is the ancestral home of the Bentivoglio family. I've always been brought up to be very proud of the name and the history of the family. The fact that the lineage can be traced back to the time of the Renaissance has always made me proud and I could often be heard saying "we're in the dictionary!" in my snotty little voice as a kid. The family crest was subtly displayed above the mantle for years and I was more than excited to finally see some concrete evidence with my own eyes, both by checking out Bologna - their old-times seat of power, and the ... read more

Sleeping in was getting up at 7am for our morning city tour of Berlin with Benny, a local guide. We went past CHARLOTTENBURG GATE, VICTORY STATUE, Parliament, a canal, Berliner Dom, a massive train station and lots of graffiti. Our first stop was Brandenburg Gate. It just seemed massive against everything else around it. There was a man and woman in military dress posing in front of the gate which did make for a nice picture. We also rode by the TV Tower, town hall, Opera house, Parliament, and embassies of Saudi Arabia, India, Africa, Netherlands and Italy. We also saw a building with numerous bullet holes that was the Traffic Ministry Building and Hitler's old bunkers are underground near here. I have an aunt that was born and raised in Berlin. She was shot in ... read more

SITGES 15th May 2007 (Tuesday - Sunshine 24º) Today we are heading to Montserrat (translated to mean Jagged Mountain). Into the FFF and out onto the Auto Route we head NNE but encounter very heavy traffic heading towards Barcelona. Deb conjures up an alternative route through a place called Gava and other small towns and villages. After an hour or so moving through picturesque hills we emerge on the other side of the range onto the road that we want. As we drive along this road we are stunned to see two girls in Gold Hot Pants and stilettos smoking by the roadside. We are thinking…. promotional shoot? TV adverts? Gimmick? It was rather surreal to see pretty girls all dressed up on a dusty road in the middle of nowhere. It soon dawns on us. ... read more

Tallinn - Estonia , the city of all things old, trendy & tourists. We arrived in Tallinn, Estonia after travelling across the Baltic Sea from Finland (Evonne - I didn't see any whales :( ). Our first feeling of Tallinn was that we were moving further away from home. Once we moved away from the docks into the old town, we were pleasently surprised by how well preserved the medieval city is (even if it was full of tourists, like us). We arrived at our guest house (located in the old town) a bit tired from our nights of drinking in Finland, and although the room was small (and once again two single beds), it was nice. Far cry from some of the hostels we had been staying at. Our first order was a late lunch ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville May 15th 2007

SevillaJulie J Vanover I have been so excited to see Sevilla since the we watched a show about it in my Spanish class and it did not disappoint. The city is beautiful, lively and has so much energy and warmth. I arrived a little later in the day than I had wanted to and the main sites that I wanted to see were closing soon so I walked the city. I walked through Santa Cruz, one of their cool old neighborhoods with small winding streets. I explored several of their huge parks that were beautiful with fountains and different gardens throughout. Walked through Plaza de Expana which was wonderful. It is a Plaza with a fountain in the middle and this semi-circular building surrounding it that is just beautiful. There are little sections for every city ... read more
