Note: Now I know I've been slack in the blog dept but we have now settled into a new place and have the internet again so look out they'll be coming in hard and fast again (I know I've said that before). I'll be up to date before you know it, so check 'em out, even if you just look at the pics. Cheers guys! Monday 7th May Up early again to try and cram as much in as we could. After breaky in the classy Manor dining room we packed and headed westward towards the Welsh border to partake in some Go Ape action. Go Ape run a high wire forest adventure course of rope bridges, Tarzan Swings and zip slides up to 40 feet up in the trees in the Forest of the Dean. ... read more

Past Jena, we arrived in Berlin about 4:45pm to our hotel, Econtel which was odd looking yellow/green with murals painted on it. This funky looking hotel was in West Berlin and had free Internet in the lobby. The rooms were plain with no ac but luckily it was cool out, so we kept the window open. Each time we took a shower, the floor got wet because it was nothing more than a drain in the corner of the bathroom with a curtain going around! It was clean and a decent size and was quiet. We had our 1st optional excursion; a "BERLINER DINNER" in East Berlin at Wirtshaus Alte Stadt Mauer. This would end up being the only place where we would get a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert for the entire trip. The ... read more

Walked all around central London in the drizzly, cold weather. We had what proved to be an interesting bus ride to Victoria station where the bus driver had a fight with another driver over a supposed "collision" (we never even felt the impact), walked to Buckingham Palace, past St James Park, visited the National Gallery, had a brief lunch and marvelled at the overweight pigeons, went on to the British Museum which was beyond huge, then walked all around various places. ... read more

Woke up feeling refreshed to perfect blue skies and sunshine. Crawled out of the tent to see where we had actually ended up. Pretty awesome. We'd ended up next to a little cove surrounded by rolling lush green and clear sparkling blue ocean! After eating just a bit of dried fruit for breakfast (instant energy), we packed up the tents and decided to cycle south back towards Castlebay, where the ferry had dropped us off the previous night. There we got some string to try and fix my pannier rack (which managed to snap on the very first night ). We then cycled further south to the island of Vatersay, now connected to Barra by a short causeway. It was here that I encountered the first climb, 12.5%. being brand new to my new shoes and ... read more

We slept in today before heading to the Coliseum. It wasn’t too crowded and we got in for free, no complaints from me. The coliseum was certainly impressive and I’m glad we got to see it. It was one time we wished we were on a tour or had a more informative book. We had what we remembered from World History and what my little book said, and bits I thought I could trust from what Russel Crowe taught me—but this didn’t satisfy Jessie’s hunger for details. You answer one question, and she has 10 more questions about your answer. I wish I had a curiosity that strong; I might be smarter. In the case of the Coliseum, though, I really did want to know more. We wandered around the Roman Forum and Palentine Hill before ... read more

Today, another competition was held. It was the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition. There over 20 competitors and they all were just amazing. Before the competition started, we met a girl, who helped us find out what was going on. When we saw her she was bringing food into a school nearby and later on in the day, we saw her perform. She reminded us of the manciple who was good in what he did and what a person who brought food to those in monestaries or schools. Another person that we met that was performing was the guy that reminded us of the squire. He was in the competition and looked like such a whore. I think he just wanted to get attention, to get all the girls there, to look at him. He wasn'even ... read more

SITGES 14th May 2007 (Monday - Light rain clears to Sunshine with a light breeze 24º) The Platjadour bungs on a great brekky. Best since St Emilion and we plough in. A brisk walk to the Sitges Railway Station burns off the second plate of scrambled eggs but doesn’t budge the cake that I finished off at breakfast. Yes, the Spanish eat cake at breakfast - I like the Spanish. We jump the train to Barcelona today and enjoy a nice ride along the coast with views out across the Costa Dorada and Costa Brava. We alight at Barca de Gracias and emerge into the sunlight. After walking for a while we start to get an understanding of the size of Barcelona and realise that we would need a week to see the place properly under ... read more

After a fun filled six days in Ireland it was time to return to sunny Nantes. Which since I've been here has managed to turn on the sunshine once or twice but definately not three times. So with that outlook on the horizonand things being a bit cold, it's time to pack up and fly south for the winter or to jump in the peugeot 206 and drive to the Med or at least somewhere warm on the way. So drive I did, south and after five or six hours in the car and 25 euro in tolls I made it into Spain and San Sebastian (or Donostia if you´re Basque). As per usual I didn´t have a map of the city or a hotel booked so I just drove on in and hoped. This proved ... read more
