Here you go mom, this is just for you, and I should add that although JO was doing the typing, I was there helping. I don't think I was mushing, unfortunately there hasn't been much of that. But things on my end are going really well. Today was a really good, day and already I and finding myself much more comfortable in my surroundings I rode a bike to and from school today and got lost twice. The second time I didnt know I was lost. The first time I went straight instead of turning and I went only a blosk too far. THe second time I passed my house and didnt notice. The my host father drove by, just a coincidence, and told me. I was a little embarassed but found it very humourous. Today ... read more

May 14, 2007 Today was our first day of practicum. Our alarm didn't go off so we woke up with 10 minutes to get ready. We all made it out in time and got to Marymount International in good time. My class of three year olds are adorable. Only 3 of them are native English speakers, so I am SOOOOOO glad I took Italian before I left. The kids are all beautiful, literally they could all be models. The school is home to the kids of ambassadors and rich Italians. So some of them seem a little snotty. My kids are great though. I made a panini for dinner tonight, but I added mustard on it, which would never fly in a restaurant. Now I am just relaxing, eating some strawberries dipped in nutella. What a ... read more

It's really good to hear from home, they mean so much to us. Thank you :) Finland; the land of hip fashion, coolness &... shopping. After leaving Sweden (the bus from Haparanda took 20 seconds to cross the bridge to Finland) we arrived at Kemi airport, Finland. We boarded the plane, not before getting excited about the snow that was falling during boarding and take off and flew down to Helsinki (this day was particulary long as we travelled literary all over the country in one day!). When we arrived in Helsinki we made our way... read more

Hey, Im not sure if this travelblog thing is working. Regardless I will write a quick note. Today was crazy. It is the beginning of the Festival de San Isidro so the town is gearing up for a BIG party tomorrow night. This morning we woke up early and went to the cafe for breakfast. EVERYONE smokes everywhere you go, and they are not polite about it they blow it right in your face!! We took the subway to the Theatro Real, from there we walked all day and all night. We went to the Palace Real which was just amazing. We had lunch at the Plaza Meyor and cafe con leches in the Puerta Del Sol. If you could do a tour of Madrid in one day I think we did it. We went ... read more

Can't believe how much time has gone by already. And I was worried I would be bored having 3 weeks in London. Now I wish I hadn't planned a week of that away. Anyway, spent Saturday at Camden Market. It has grown a lot since I was last here (either that or I just couldn't be bothered to go suss out the rest of it). Problems on the tube didn't start the day off very well. They tend to do work on the weekends, which means some parts get shut down. I thought I was ok when I left Russell Sq, but it was not to be. Had a bit of a detour, but I got there with only a little fuss. It's still raining here. And I mean raining (not that lovely BC spit). I ... read more

5 days in Prague, such a beautiful city with every building ornatly sculptured and so many spires on the skyline. Left Berlin in the morning an went throuh Dresden, glad i didnt stop there, dreary weather. Had a bonus stop in Terizen, a holding camp used by the Nazi's for the Jews, haunting to think of so many, 1000's squashed in there in those conditions. Everything was virtually kept so was pretty graphic. We went through a 700m tunnel in the walls to this exicution site which was scary for some. Got into Prague an had cooked dinner in the hostel with Lara, Jodie and Jess. Some cooke pasta an vege's went down well, then it was on to the drinkin games :) Next day did the walking tour, guide went so fast an hardly ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 14th 2007

But we are tired and I lost our luggage. :( I misplaced the baggage claim tickets and so they didn't put the luggage on the plane when we checked in in Portland. Honestly! This trip is crazy! I have never had such bad luck on a trip before. I'm knocking on the table right now, just to satisfy those superstitious readers. And then, on top of that, we can't find our hotel in Paris, which turns out isn't actually in Paris, so we have to take a commuter train to this other town, Epinay sur Seine, and Trent can't stay awake and I'm paranoid, seeing the old lady sitting across from us as a possible thief, as is everyone else on this train. The man that sold us the ticket to this place actually laughed ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 14th 2007

The past few days have been relaxing. I just stayed near my hostel and went to a couple small art gallaries and museums. After switching hostels today, I went to see the Pantheon and Notre Dame de Paris. I would have to rank the Pantheon at the top of my favorite places in paris. Notre Dame is at the bottom. The difference is the amount of tourists. Notre Dame just had too many, while there was only a handful visiting the Pantheon. I went back to Notre Dame at night, when nobody was there, and it was much more enjoyable.... read more
