We flew to Venice on Saturday and as soon as we stepped of the plane we couldn't believe how warm in was!! It was great. We hopped on the bus to our campgrond that we were staying at and when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. It wasn't just a small campground, it had everything. A pool, resaurant, bar, grocery store, gym, internet cafe and we weren't actually camping, we were staying in a small trailer like room that had 2 beds and a full bathroom. We just wandered around the campground that evening, since it was late when we got there and we were quite far outside of Venice. Sunday morning it was up early and we caught the bus to the ferry port where we walked around for over and hour because ... read more

After my disappointing introduction to Norway, I found Bergen absolutely incredible and it could do no wrong despite its abnormally frigid weather that caused me to hide indoors at the guesthouse reading the trashy romances. I'm not sure whether it was the charming painted wooden houses with its funky colored doors built upon narrow non-grid like winding streets or if it was the layout of the city with its houses built in steps on the hill side each with a great view of down below and the harbour. The city was great for a casual stroll down at the harbour or browsing through the galleries housed in the historic area of Bryggen with restorations ongoing using traditional methods and materials. My one and only museum stop in Bergen was to the Hanseatic Museum, a restored ... read more

Day1: The plane ride began on a good note. An older couple switched their Economy PLUS (a slightly roomier option) with my regular Economy so that they could sit with their family. The lady who also switched became my "plane Mother". Dolores was a 71yo Filipina born in Kuai (sp?), with 4 grown children, the youngest in the 40's, and 8 grandchildren. She was also a mistress to her "honey" for 35yrs. She was so adorable that I treated her to a small bottle of red wine. I refused her repayment in cash but she repayed me with numerous snacks from Hawaii. We exchanged info and hugged and kissed goodbye at the baggage claim area. On a sour note, the two young British couple next to us laughed, screamed and talked loudly the ENTIRE flight. ... read more

So we went to see the Army vs. Navy Rugby game on the long week-end. It was so much fun!!! Something about all of those manly men tearing pieces out of each other!!!! These are my freind Frenchie's pictures - I just wish I'd had my own camera at the game - the costumes people in the audience were wearing were hillarious!!! (Men dressed as chickens, French maids, German milk maids, knights.... etc etc - words cannot describe) Tuula's boyfriend's brother and girlfriend are in town from Australia - and they're so much fun... so young, positive and un-jaded.... I give them 3 weeks before they're cranky like the rest of the Londoners..... ... read more

J'adore Paris! Europe » France » Ile de France » Paris By TessaMay 17th 2007Tessa MurphyHi all! This isn't a real entry, but I thought I'd write a short blog saying that Angie and I survived 3 days in Paris ok. I'm too tired to write much more, and tomorrow we're going to Cologne, Aachen, Belgium, and Luxembourg, so sadly I won't be able to probably properly update this until AFTER I get back to the States. But I will, and those I will see will get to hear some good stories.....going to Paris with Ang added a lot to my story quotient! In the meantime, here's some pictures to satiate your curiosities. ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 17th 2007

Well, I've been in Paris for 10 nights now, and I've decided that tonight is my last. I have seen everything that I wanted to see: the Louvre, Notre Dame, Versailles, the Pantheon, the Eiffel Tower, and all the museums and art gallaries. (My favorite places in Paris are the Pantheon and the Louvre) Tomarrow I am going to catch a train to Dijon, where I will stay for a few days before finding a bicycle and touring the Loire Valley.... read more

Wow! - Sorry it has taken us so long to update this! :) We arrived in Rome and it was the longest day ever! We visited the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Vatican City, Colesseo as well as a few other names that I didn't catch (i think they were in Italian). Tracee met a restaurant server on the streets of Rome that was her number 1 fan; I took pictures of things I assume were cars (even though they were smaller than a vespa). The Metros were interesting. We learned the hard way by taking the wrong ones a couple of times and seeing unplanned areas of the city. Also, i have come to the conclusion that there are in fact no traffic laws in italy. On our way to our hotel from the airport, ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Oxfordshire » Oxford May 17th 2007

Oh dear, two days is not enough for Oxford. I think I could spend weeks and weeks here. There’s so much history. In the morning we met outside Blackwell’s bookstore for a literary tour of the college. But first, we went through the bookstore which has the largest number of books for sale in one room anywhere—over half a million books in one room. See what I mean? I could spend three days in there alone, at a minimum. The literary tour was fascinating—we saw the houses where C. S. Lewis and Tolkien lived when they were first writing their books, the library used to film the interiors of the Hogwarts library, and some very impressive architecture which I have now forgotten all the details of. One warning about Oxford: don’t step on the grass. I ... read more

Bettina comes through again. Leroy and I are about to post the Amsterdam blogs from Spain, but we’ve been lagging because we need to download photos from Bett’s memory stick. We don’t have the cable, so we have to find one of those Kodak Photo CD centers. Being so behind in uploading photos, we appreciate Bett’s super guest blogging track record (Yes, I’m calling OG and Xandra out again, but all in jest). We miss you and your cappuccinos, Bett. I hope San Fran is treating you well. A Proper English Breakfast and the Cappuccino Indulgence Begins I think we all woke up still giggling about the world’s tiniest toothpaste. Leroy was the first to get ready; Melissa and I stayed lounging. I, of course, opted to go last because that’s just how I am - ... read more
