Hi Folks, well here I am trying a second time to publish a blog. I do not know where the other went too. Anyway, I am here in Pamplona with 3 days serious walking behind me. I am thankful for airconditioning and a bath. The weather has been mild to hot, with no rain; although I understand the closer we get to Santiago the more chance of rain. Let me recap what I had talked about in my previous blog. My trip on Air France was excellent, I had sent a text to Lisa M saying we were an hour late taking off, but the text did not go. The reason, we were already in the air for an hour, I had missed take off and fallen asleep. 4 days wandering Paris was a delight; Roger ... read more

Just finished day 3 of the Camino. The travel over went well. Landed in Paris at >Charles de Gaulle airport then took the subway to Orly Airport(23 stops on the Metro) the flew Air France to Biarritz. Was picked up by the prearranged service and driven to St John where we got a bed in the local municipal Aurberge.Later in the day they ran out of rooms. Was awAKENED AT 6 am AND HAD A BRIEF BREAKFAST. Then started the most physically demanding day of my life. It was uphill, switchback, more uphill, switchback, more uphill(you get the idea). Finally mad4 it to Rochvalles where we stayed in a very nice hostel run by the Dutch. Had a pilgrimĀ“s dinner consisting of soup, duck and potatoes, and desert. THEN WENT TO A pILGRIMĀ“S MASS held in an ancient ... read more

Just woke up from a quick nap. It s really hot here today and I am happy I am not walking in this. I am starting to like the heat better and better, considering I ve always been a snow guy that should be a good thing.... When I woke up I got a message that made me think about my travels so far here in Spain. Thr first two days of my journey I ve taken alone. The trip from Antwerp all the way to St Jean was long and lonely. Looking out the window of the train, and the joy and anticipation of what was to come was really hard for me not to share with someone. After day one on the trail, Thomas introduced me to the group of women from Germany and ... read more

Yesterday we decided to spend one more day in what has been the best Albergue so far, Casa de Austria.... best staff, great beds, beautiful house, .... this was day 3 in this hostel so we felt quite at home already. Left the hostel at 830am to have them clean and returned a little later and waited in the beautifull front terras till noon for it to reopen. No hassle to get back in. The hospitaliero even smiled and said, dont have to show you guys around right? We sat outside with a german beer in hand, while Thomas played the guitar. Started talking to the pilgrims that were arriving about dinner. We had a big table of 21 the night before. today promised to be even bigger. Everyone offered to help with grocery shopping with ... read more

Writing about the last two days today. We walked 23 km yesterday. Nice and hot outside, but beautiful country side again... Thomas was really struggling with his leg yesterday, but he got up and walked because it was our last day with Lena and Lotti... Today I spent most of my day walking and talking to this amazing women. During the 23 km I didnt even realize I was walking. We missed one of the signs and went the wrong way even. Lena said 'we should run'... which means we have to according to the rules.... runni my 100m with backpack is not as easy as it sounds.... our end point of our run ended up being a huge tower of hay with a small crawl space to the inside of the whole pile... so we ... read more

Woke up at 5am this morning with a sore throat and a bad caugh... nothing to worry about. Probably the good air and breathing while smoking.... yes yes I am still smoking, dumbass... Just caughing my lungs out when I am done walking up hill on a mountain, which is pretty much all day...Lol It was a rough day today. Pain in my leg, sore feet, overheated, .... but it s the Camino friends that keep you going. The whole way Thomas and I walked together and we kept eachother going. The people I hang out with a amazing humans. Kind, easy going and all very down to earth. It s no wonder that I enjoy hanging out with all of them every day. What another good day. One of the girls had a hard time walking so we stayed a bit behind today, walking slower. It made it so much easier to enjoy the sights. Started at 7am and walkdd through 1pm to end up at a great hostel. On the way walked up o the peak of a mountain. Not o ly did I not stop to catch my breath, which I had to do a couple times before, because we were taking our time I was able to take in all nature offers. The windmills in the back on the top of the mountain, which ended up being something we passed by in the end, about 750m higher up above sealevel, the sunrise, the sight of backpacks and people on the camino.... Today Lena and I talked ... read more

Started the day at 430am. Couldn't sleep in a room of 100 beds...repacked my backpack a couple times and got rid of some books that were way to heavy to carry around. Met up with the Germans at 645am and started walking for 20km. Current pedometer count: 72000 steps at end of day 2. Not bad I would say. It s intersting how fast my german comes back, listening that is.... speaking not so much, but they understand English and speak it very well. Most of the day was down hill, which suprisingly is almost as hard as going uphill... No sun today so that was good. Not as hot as yesterday so a little more comfortable walking hence the fact that we arrived at the hostel at 1pm already. First thing is taking off the ... read more

04/07/13 - 09/06/13 So my first week in London had come to an end and this only meant one thing. PAMPLONA! As most of you know Pamplona is famous for the annual San Fermin festival or the Running of the Bulls as it's commonly know. This was one of the things I was looking forward to most on my trip! so to say I was excited was an understatement. So 11am on the 4th on June came and I found myself waiting at Embankment for my PP Travel bus that would take me the length of France and into Northern Spain for the next leg of my journey. After boarding bus number two we were on our way, a journey that would see us travel through the night arriving at 8am on the 5th. Never did ... read more

June 7 Well - another night - no sleep. Tanya and I were in bunks 171 & 172 - the last two on the first floor and as it turns out the ones right beside the women's showers and toilettes. We were excited to see we were with a middle age Dutch couple - very quiet. We were even more excited to see Angus was on another floor and Damian was at the opposite end of the floor. We fell asleep right away - it was short lived. The sound of flip flops sclerching on the stoned floor started around 11pm - followed by the closing of the door and flushing of the toilettes - with 172 people -1/2 women -it was like a non stop toilette symphony. At about 4:30 am the keeners started to ... read more
