so me and jer get to dublin. And apparently people travel to dublin to party on friday and satrudays... the cheapest place we found was 50Euroes a night and theres no wayjer and i were going to pay that. So we put our bags in a locker at the bus station and went out drinking. We ended up sleeping in a private park for 2 hours, then woke up freezing cold. On theway out of the park i almost bailed hard jumping a fence and It was deffinetly easier getting in then it was gettingout. A policeman had spotted us hopping the fence and we were about toget into trouble but a combination of jers smoothtalking, usbeeing slightly drunk, and the forigner card, we managed to get out of it. we found an internet cafe and ... read more

I'm not one that likes dictating the events of the day or describing the possibly mundane things one would do in a day - that's essentially what teenage blogs are all about. Sometimes I wonder if they ever realise their lives are terribly dull, myopic, and contained! Who actually cares what you had for lunch and in reading back many years down, does it matter if it were Sushi or Cabonara?! But at the request of many friends who seemed sincere about knowing honestly how things are here and how I'm getting along, here's a mundane blog of the things I see, have done and might do. The one for personal reflection still remains but this is in supplement of the more mundane. Hopefully, it'll not be as mundane as some of those I read. I ... read more

Having come to Belfast to work, I have been blessed to form friendships with two wonderful Aussie girls who have been an endless source of fun and entertainment since my arrival here. I have turned to my girlfriends Claire and Nadia for dinner dates, chocolate fests, tea and coffee hits, movie marathons and the occasional bit of outdoor exercise (though the latter would be definitely be in the minority of our time spent together). After many, many hours spent hanging out at each of our various shabby apartments in the same accommodation complex where we all live, we decided it was time to venture further afield for a weekend of all things girly. Being only two hours south of Belfast, Dublin is the obvious choice for a weekend away. And so to Dublin we went! Having ... read more

I AM VERY NEARLY OUT OF THE 2 MONTH MARK! This is good. according to patri, month 2 is the hardest. Just past the excitment and newness of month one, things settle in, you reconsider all your decisions, over and over.. i agree with her! But its all grand, of course. The fringe festival has had its way this week, and I am an Official volunteer. Not that i´ve done much: tonight will be my 2nd time volunteering. On thursday, I picked up a photographer from the airport, who was with a woman who may or may not have been his girlfriend. Regardless, Mim and Matthew were very sweet people, and didn´t know someone was meeting them at the airport, so very excited to see me! It was cool. He was a photographer for the parkour ... read more

Well, I flew into Dublin VERY early and got a shuttle to my hotel. Which was close to the airport, but alas...nothing else. I was exhausted considering I got NO sleep and it was now around 0600 Dublin time. I wanted to see the city--of course--and atleast have a Guiness. But, I needed to sleep for a bit. Well, the desired 3 hour nap turned into a much needed 6 hour nap and so I took a quick shower and headed into the city via shuttle back to airport to catch the city bus which was 6 Euro round trip. So there I was in Dublin Ireland with no set agenda. I decided to walk around the shops and then see if I could catch any tours. First I walked through Trinity College and then to ... read more

Greetings friends! I have successfully made it to Ireland. I arrived safely yesterday in Dublin after a cancelation in Grand Rapids, and a delay and missed connection in Chicago. Arrived at 9:00 am yesterday morning. From the airport, I was able to take the aircoach into the city center, which is about 30-40 minutes from the airport. I then made my way to the Tourist Information Centre where I bought a pass that allows one to "hop on, hop off" as much as you like for a full day. Briefly, I was able to see St. Patricks Cathedral, Guiness Brewery (where I was able to sample different types of Guiness and see how it is made), An old Irish jail, Trinity College, the River Liffy, and a few others. My thoughts in brief: Completely amazed at ... read more

Upon arrival in Dublin, we quickly set out in search of the legendary Black Gold. Aye, and what a treasure it be. Our visit here is best described as follows: Awaken. Tend to wounds from the night before. Walk around town. Remark at how amazingly friendly and jolly the Irish are, and how dreadfully unattractive downtown Dublin is. Make our way through the Gaelic city towards the Storehouse. The Guinness Storehouse. Beautiful. Let me take this opportunity to tell you something about Guinness: you can only get it in Ireland. That stuff you drink elsewhere? Not Guinness. I liken it to Fools' Black Gold. The creamy foam itself is a delight - reminiscent of a cold coffee ice cream, slowly dancing its seductive dance on your tongue, teasing you to its beauty. To be obsessed with ... read more

So we got to Dublin yesterday. Alanna got a few hours of sleep on the flight, but I couldn't sleep a wink. We were exhausted but we were ready to go see the city as soon as we arrived. We ended up walking around, drinking some Guiness, and we watched the Hurling championship between Killkenny & Limrick. It was pretty festive out, with lots of people in green & white or yellow & black. Unfortunately for Aiofe, Limrick didn't win. a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/wkeithsutton/IMG_0066.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"/a Here's Alanna and I in the Temple Bar area Here we are with TJ and Natasha enjoying our first Guiness. We ended up crashing out at 7pm (damn jetlag) and woke up this morning at 4:30. We tooled around the city then met up ... read more
