Just been through the list and got all my gear in one spot. Doesn't look too bad but it's not complete yet. We got our travel docs and there's one small hiccup. A certain person has a middle name Jeremiah which appears as his first name for the Inca trail pass. Let's hope we don't get stopped!! Here's the route http://www.travelblog.org/gmaps/map_4Bg.html Our itinerary is as follows 28th Aug - overnight Madrid, flying out Lima on the 29th. 30th Aug, a feast day in Lima and we head off to the jungle Puerto Maldonado (how did that happen?) 2 days later we arrive in Cuzco to acclimatise for our big trek starting on the 3rd of September. Will AOD be allowed on? Assuming all ok we finish on the 7th and arrive back in Cuzco for a ... read more

Our agenda today was simple - get to London. We were able to have another small sleep in, before catching our cab to Dublin airport, and finding the Aer Lingus desk. If you can organise them, E Tickets are definitely the way to go…the lines are much quicker! Unfortunately, we only have paper tickets, so we have to join the longer queues, but most of the time we’re there early, so it’s not a huge problem. Dublin airport is like a mini-shopping centre, so after one last look upstairs we found a seat and relaxed for 10 minutes before boarding our plane. The flight to London was great - only 50 minutes and we were there. Heathrow was no worries again and we were in and out in record time. Plus, we had a hotel transfer! ... read more

Ireland…. Alrighty then, So we picked up the car and it seriously took us forever to get out of the city like an hour to and hour and a half its seriously ridiculous!!! But yeah we got out and headed up the motor ways which was quite boring nd I slept through most of it and then we came to Wales….it’s like someone picked up the Zimbabwe country side and moved it to the UK. It’s really quite awesome none of my pictures do even the slightest amount of justice, so I took a lil bit of video of the winding roads and just how small the lanes actually are and how close the foliage is to the road. Was just absolutely beautiful the only way to put it. So yeah in our travels through Wales ... read more

With time to sleep in, we made sure we didn’t set the alarm till 8:30am this morning, and headed down to breakie just after nine. I love the little pork sausages here, and will miss them when we head out of the UK for a month and a bit. The full English/Irish/Scottish breakfast definitely sets you up for the day - if you can fit it all in! After breakie, we decided to walk to Trinity College - and were only disorientated for 10 minutes or so - we realised that we needed to cross the river in order to get to the college!! It was fun to walk down O’Connell street though, and get lost in Dublin City for a few minutes. Over the bridge, we got our bearings, and headed to the college. Luckily, ... read more

With only 1 and a ½ hours drive to get to Dublin, we certainly didn’t rush around in the morning to get out of Kilkenny. Instead, we headed to the Laundromat to do some much needed washing, and took in the city centre, including some more shops. At about 10am we decided to head to the big smoke, and arrived there in good time. Our B and B had been pre-booked (thank goodness) because we soon realised something BIG was happening in Dublin this weekend - the National Gaelic Games were on - Football and Hurling!! People were flocking into the city in the thousands, wearing their favourite team colours, and what would normally have been a 20 minute trip to the airport, to return our hire car (a Vauxhall Corsa) turned into an hour long ... read more

hello hello. Today was a fairly nice day, I went to the park with my mate daniel(denmark), and then we went to the national gallery for a bit. Then i showered, made some pasta, chatted with some people. Oh! and earlier today i got to talking with a woman from louisiana at the hostel who teaches french. She is having severe back problems and is leaving tomorrow, and then after chatting for a while, i saw her later, and she offered me her straightener and blow dryer...! for free! I think its because she doesnt have much room left in her suitcase. Shes also selling a 7 trip train pass thats good for 2 more months for 50 euro!! she paid 600 usdollars when there were 15 trips on it... so im looking at a 300 ... read more

HOLler NOT MUCH TIME TO WRITE but hello, arriva derci. I read a quote today that made me lauuugh: No matter how great your triumphs or how tragic your defeats, remember taht approximately one billion chinese people couldnt care less. -abraham lazlo Thats very important. I had today off and yesterday. Got my hair cut for waaay too much $$, bought some stuff, went to st stephens park, and pub crawling tonight because i didnt last night. Well, last night i had an independent pub crawl. It involved me and some bulmers, in a pub, but then it ended because i didnt really like the bulmers, and it made me feel ungood, so i had some wonton soup which definitely doesnt qualify as a pub crawl substance. Thought you should know. I move in in exactly ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Before beginning today's entry, we have to make a slight adjustment from yesterday. On the way back from listening to some great traditional Irish music, it rained on us. So, we did have to pull out the umbrellas. ***We decided to start today by splitting up for the first time. Jake and Jeannette headed to the National Library to try and dig up some old potatoes (that would be family history research), while Rich and Barb took a historical walking tour led by a Trinity College history graduate. No luck on the potatoes, but Rich and Barb learned quite a bit. Barb adds that this was a very typical Dust vacation day because there was a lot of history and very little food.We regrouped for tea just as the rain started to fall on ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Our ferry arrived at the Dublin Ferryport at 5:55 a.m. We slept a bit here and there. Jake got kicked in the head by a stranger. He just rolled over and went back to sleep. So did the stranger. We spent the night on benches in a deli. Honestly, the boat was very nice... almost like a cruise ship. It was just that the trip began at 2:40 a.m. and we were too exhausted to enjoy the amenities. We caught a bus into Dublin City Centre and made our way to the Best Western Royal Dublin Hotel. They didn't have both of our rooms ready, despite a call from London warning of our expected early morning arrival. After a comedy of errors, including walking into a room that had not been made up, we ... read more
