Ciao tutti! I’m sorry I suck at life, I know I haven’t written FOREVER! Life has been craazy, traveling all around and working on all of my end-of-the-semester schoolwork (not to mention trying to figure out how I’m going to pack up all of my things and everything I’ve bought here and move it across the ocean by myself… but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it). But I’ll try to give you some condensed updates. The weekend after Tuscany we went to Bologna for a couple days, kicking it off with a cooking class paid for by my program (as a field trip with my Italian class). We learned how to make tortellini, tortelloni and fettucine, but unfortunately everything we made had nutmeg in it! So I still got to learn how to ... read more

So this past weekend Katie, Andrea, and I decided to take a weekend trip to Dublin. We began our trip Saturday afternoon and man was that a stressful time. It took us an hour by bus to get to the airport and arrived a decent two hours early. So you know how in the States you get a printed ticket. Well when we got to the check-in point at the airport it took about two seconds and then we were handed a ticket with our name and flight information hand written on it. Oh and also you all know how back in the States we have the boarding gate number either printed on our tickets or at least we find our an hour before our flight. Well not in this instance, in fact we didnt find ... read more

I feel like lots has happened, but at the same time not much to report!! This past tuesday I went to galway (a city on the west coast--took the train!!) and stayed with marilyn, the girl i bumped into in glasgow. It was good fun, although the city doesnt seem to have too many tourist attractions, its got an excellent shopping-pubbing-cafe area called shop street, and marilyn lives in a volunteer house with 7 rooms. when i was there there was more or less 10 people living there as well (some were travelling, some were volunteering etc etc). Everyone was very nice, and tehres another house on the aran islands so im hoping to stay there for a few days in teh spring! Other than that, for this month and december i´ll likely be working ... read more

Malahide is yet another seaside town that is fairly close to Dublin - just a half hour train ride away from the City Centre. North of the City and just north of Howth, Malahide was once a small village with a harbour. It's now a town that is quaintly sleepy and calm. The marina though has undergone significant development is certainly no longer the dull ancient harbour it once was. The town centre exudes a unique characteristic of modernity and antiquation. There are modern brand-names housed in houses that date back to the 1800s. The town centre is a pleasant promenade with shopes that are deceivingly inviting (till one sees the price of items being sold). The Marina is beautiful, as all Irish harbours are. And Malahide's main attraction is clearly Malahide castle of which it ... read more

Yes, there's actually a Marathon here too and Dubliners are as equally health conscious and competitive when it comes to sports. Though known largely for Irish Football / Rugby, distance running seems to be gaining the popularity as well. So here're photos of the most recent Dublin City Marathon. Don't ask me why I'm not in there. I just discovered there was even going to be one only when I got here - a little too late to train for it. I'll certainly be in it next year. The Marathon was organised on 29 October - the National Bank Holiday - a national holiday declaring the 'succes' of the Banking sector? I don't know. I've little idea what a 'Bank Holiday' is. It's quite an exhilirating event. Just watching the crowds watch the runners is an ... read more
