Well Holy Doodle! It's been so long I nearly forgot how to add an entry. It seems, I've stopped "travelling" long enough to forget about this blog. PAH! Lies! Well, truth... I have... pretty much been working in a Winnipeg office for AGES, but I did quit that last month, to return to my Albertan roots!! Went to Calgary and saw la Krista, Ed, Darby, Serene and Mia! Fantastico! They're all alive and well and were great hosts. Despite the week starting off with a sushi nightmare on my part (Krista can confirm its much less delectable but perhaps more exotic coming up again...), I had a lovely time. Stayed with the Krista and Ed in their house of wonder for the first few, they showed me around the Calgary Zoo, taught me their dog whispering ... read more

The answer is yes. Too sexy for milan fred. And your cat. Whatchu think about that? SO! The other day we were in the swiss alps, the town was called Zermatt. It is overlooked by the MATTERHORN which is more or less the symbol of switzerland. Its the mountain on the toblerone bar wrapper!! That was phenomenal, but an exhausting hike to the views. Then at the top we had a picnic with swiss cheese and chocolate, and we yodeled a wee bit. We have been sincerely welcomed to italy. Yesterday was a dreary day, adn the plan was one night in milan, and one night in venice. We arrived in milan, went to the hostel which was full, noticed the not-as-glam -as-we thought surroundings and skipped town! With mcdonalds in hand, so we would make ... read more

Time limit on the comp! I am behind behind behind with these, sorry! Turns out life got ahead of me. I've done several trips since the last blog, such as northern ireland where we went to see cirque du soleil, giants causeway, and did a black taxi tour (where a local shows you around town--the murals etc). Very interesting--especially to see the segregation between the catholics and protestants even after the troubles. There is a wall called the "berlin wall" seperating the 2 roads : shankhill and the falls, as well as a gate that closes between the two at 10 oclock. THEN i was off to lithuania! Went to see a girl from work, ina, who just moved back home from living in dublin. 10 days there, sunny sunny weather, and i was WELL taken ... read more

I had a marvelous day off yesterday. It started with tea in the morning at church which i attend every wednesday. Always good craic! Joe came to that, so then we went and bought tickets to cirque du soleil (Me, Laura Patri and Rosa are going in april!!), and walked around in lovely weather and joe handed out a few CVs. Then we went to the oldest pub in ireland, the brazenhead, and had beef and guinness stew (delicious!!). Later that day we watched the last king of scotland... very good movie!! And then it came to be the moment i´d been waiting for : tegan and sara concert. Oy. I must say, i´ve been embarassingly detatched from the canadian music scene since being here, and did not realise they were coming to town until last ... read more

Ahh, I´ve finally gotten to it. The France Report. You had to wait, because I had to wait. My flight to Paris from madrid was delayed by 2 and a half hours (so THATS why it only cost 19€..), so my arrival to beauvais airport which is actually a one hour bus ride outside of paris was at 11:00 pm on a saturday night. The parisian adventure begins with me saddled between my 2 backpacks, a throng of tourists who a few hours before were locals treating me like foreign dirt, but now that i know how to ask where the metro is, im king kong with these spaniards. So that was the nice part. I could understand things without steam coming out of my ears. The not nice part was the since of dread: I ... read more

First and foremost: I know that a lot of the names in this blog will not be entirely correct, either in spelling or i just made them up (hah-i´ll put a star next to those ones). Many people with extremely bizarre names were involved in teh spanish portion of my january! Here goes.. Part one of my spanish adventure was spent in madrid... a week frequenting La Bodega ("bodegita") with mayans, patri, and all their school friends. It was a suprise when we got free tapas with the beer, even more of a suprise when we left at 2 or 3 and THEN went out to the clubs. Took some adjusting, especially between that and full tourist days! i stayed with patris family, they were amazing... her mom packed us lunches when we went on a ... read more

Ah. Another holiday season survived! And this one was not only survived, triumphed really. For my record books. First christmas without my family, strange enough. First christmas with no snow? First christmas eve dinner, taking the turkey out of the oven at midnight? First time opening presents at 4:00 christmas morning. First sleeping until 3 pm christmas day. First rain on christmas. I think i could make a list from here to winnipeg on all the firsts. Something to consider: in spain they wear red underwear on new years because it brings good luck. They also feed eachother grapes during the countdown... 1 grape for every second. I´ve rung in the new year with my lithuanian workmates. It was a night to remember (or not depending on your consumption), doused in mojitos and margaritas. Managed to ... read more

I feel like lots has happened, but at the same time not much to report!! This past tuesday I went to galway (a city on the west coast--took the train!!) and stayed with marilyn, the girl i bumped into in glasgow. It was good fun, although the city doesnt seem to have too many tourist attractions, its got an excellent shopping-pubbing-cafe area called shop street, and marilyn lives in a volunteer house with 7 rooms. when i was there there was more or less 10 people living there as well (some were travelling, some were volunteering etc etc). Everyone was very nice, and tehres another house on the aran islands so im hoping to stay there for a few days in teh spring! Other than that, for this month and december i´ll likely be working ... read more

Ohh, glasgow!! I happened upon 3 days off from work, so decided on a last minute trip to glasgow. 80 euro flight, why not? So i set off early sunday morning... patri was coming home from the bar... for the airport. Landed in glasgow at 7:30, had some tea, caught the train to the city centre, and explored the area until 11 when i went to the Glasgow cathedral. Gorgeous church and being at a service with scottish accents added a whole new dimension to the experience! haha. i officially dub the scottish accent to be the hardest to understand. Then I went to St Mungos museum of religion and life, then to the hostel, where i met a girl, katie, who was born in liverpool, then moved to New Brunswick when she was 14 and ... read more

As of late!! The fam visit highlights (other than everything)... Obviously showing them my apartment, and where i work was very exciting, seeing as thats where i am most of the time. Having my family meet my friends was also cool, and we had a great thanksgiving dinner sunday night with Patri Raul and Laura (all spanish, who had never experienced thanksgiving). They, by the way were very excited about it afterwards, and are still talking about it. The other day though patri said to me, " Libby, i´m sorry, but did you know... we had thanksgiving at the wrong time? Its in november!!" Haha, shes got a job with an american company. She was very concerned though, how could all these canadians not know when thanksgiving is?! Anyway, we muddled through the dinner, despite our ... read more
