Hello to all, I need to get better at updating this more often, but it is hard because school has really picked up in a short amount of time. Last week I had long days of class. Some highlights included having a cooking class on Wednesday. We made grilled pitas and tzaziki sauce, greek salad, and meat. It was delicious, and I can't wait to make greek food when I go back home. Food here I have become addicted to includes tzaziki and grilled pitas, chicken gyros, and chocolate croissants. Ah, it is so good. The Greeks sure know how to eat. We have adapted fairly well to the Greek eating system, such as we now eat dinner much later than we normally would at home. On Thursday we had nine consecutive hours of class (it ... read more

Our general feeling for Crete was that we needed more time to fully appreciate it. The impression is that it can be quite self-sufficient with it's resources and that the beaches and resting places for tourists need to be discovered by us. Alas, that may never happen but I think Crete might be a great vacation destination in and of itself. I've learned that some of my Hiraklion, Crete pictures were likely Chania. No matter, I'll let it stand and add a few new scenes here. ... read more

Our 2-hour dash on the Cat 4 Hydrofoil was a bit harrowing. In contract to the smooth journey between Mykonos and Santorini, this leg of our trip was rough. Rose, despite her good doses of Gravol, was quite green by arrival at Kiraklion, Crete. Apparently the sea was very rough in that dark trip and we must have run through some squalls. Anyway, we were very grateful for our hotels that night. Most of these photographs were traken in Hiraklion, the capital of Crete. We later drove to Chania (pronounced 'Hania') and I'm confused as to where I took some of these monastery and museum items. ... read more

Hey there folks thanks so much for the feedback from all - the prayers are working barb and mum cheers Julia loved the Evie update thanks Moods team. A few milestones here we took a road trip a few hundred kms up the island to pay our respects to the kiwis who will never leave Crete, they are in a stunning locale in an area called Sudha Bay, a natural and strategically important harbour that has been in continuous use for over 3000 years by one tribe or another. despite us cruising in a skoda ( much to Bens horror) and the fact that all two lane roads instantly become 4 we adapted to the greek driving style and were successful the kids did really well, we stopped for a swim in the lovely warm and ... read more

I cannot believe that I have been on vacation this long. I’m not sure if I can go back to the working class. I think it might be time to revisit the idea of a sugar daddy (does anyone have leads?). Well after a nice relaxing massage and a moisturizing facial (I’ve gotten a lot of sun), I decided to wonder around a little bit. I headed north out of Elounda rather than the southern direction that has been my default. The reason that south is the default is because there isn’t much of anything north except for this really cool island, Spinalonga, which I had to settle for seeing from a distance. Of course maybe that’s best since it is the sight of a former leper colony. I guess at this point I will put ... read more

Well today was another low stress day in sunny Crete. I did some laundry (Bill will be so proud) and laid around at the pool. I spent the day in the sun chatting with a very lovely English gentleman. We talked about everything from American life to politics in the US and abroad. I immediately liked him when he told me that he was sad to hear that Hillary would not be President. He’s a retired gentleman that pretty much just travels around Europe, although he has been to NY a few times. It’s very interesting hearing about American politics and life from someone that doesn’t live there. It seems that we are all very extravagant and we still have the mystic of the land of milk and honey going for us. If only life were ... read more

Well after going to the same coffee bar for a week, I decided to give it a shot in explaining to the waitress how I like my coffee. I stuck with a simple Americano but given the language difference it took a bit of time. In the end it is much better. It seems that at least here in Crete (every place we went to around the island had the same drink) that all iced drinks are whipped and not whipped with ice but with milk and espresso. It makes for a very frothy drink that I’m not really crazy about. Once done, my drink was much much better, now I just have to hope the same girl is here when I come back. Well other than laying around and enjoying the sun and the cool ... read more

Well, since Bill was gone I decided to take on an adventure that would eat up most my day. (I was much more successful at that than I had planned.) We never made it to the south side of the island so I decided to give it a shot. There are a couple of things that you should know here. First, there is no direct way to the south side of the island. Second, the main roads go from 4 lanes to 2 down to 1 with pedestrians everywhere so traveling anywhere takes a bit of time. I headed to Matala. (Oh yeah you should know that road signs are sporadic at best so you really have to be prepared going out and ready to turnaround a lot.) Matala is about 100 km from where I ... read more

Well today is that day that Billy Buddy left me. He must have been feeling a little bad or he will miss me, but he got up and cooked us a real breakfast with eggs and fruit and everything. There was no Nuttella anywhere on the table. It was a GREAT breakfast. Well, the morning started a bit slow since we took it easy, had a nice breakfast and then Bill had to spend some time packing. Once we got things figured out and Bill all set to go, we headed out to Knossos Palace. It was really cool to go see, but we were both a little disappointed that more of the palace wasn’t still standing. When you first start in it doesn’t seem like it is that much, but after a couple of hours ... read more
