Update! Im still kickin it in Cartagena, workin on the tan, the spanish, and the big "E".... Our amigo Max, who apparently is regressing to his caveman-yeti self, has thus far refused to offer his own updates on this weblog. Thus, I am forced to speak on his behalf, whether he likes it or not. ;-) I received an email this morning informing me of a Yeti sighting at the border of Guatemala and Nicaragua, traveling with another anglo-esque couple. All I have to say is, watch out for the Narco-traficantes, unless of course you want to make a quick million...lol. Max, lets hear from ya, my man! As for me, I feel bad for the lack of pix thus far, I promise to take some this afternoon in the old city and on the beach....Please ... read more

I've been talking to many of you over the past few days and the topic of packing tips has been a popular one. If you have suggestions for what shoes to bring, what types of clothing work best, etc., please post them here for all to see! Thanks, Kristin PS Only 26 days until we depart!... read more

Well today I registered for classes and I have to wait until the 23rd of February to see if I got the classes I wanted. I would say that the system is semi-archaic. Everything is done by scantron and the system of allocating classes is much different from the states. 1st eachstudent is given a ranking based on their GPA (1-10), those students that have a higher ranking have priority in getting the classes they want. Tonight I'm going to 'the jazz cafe' to see belly dancers and listen to Arabic music. I'm not exactly sure how I said I would go but I'm sure it will be a new experience. The food here has been good-great. Rice and beans are a few of the main dishes that seemed to be served at every meal. I'm ... read more

Yikes, how time flies when there are no internet connections around. (I'm backtracking a bit and throwing some stuff in here from my real old fashioned pen and paper journal to keep this kind of up to date, so bear with me if they are kind of lengthy.) The first daytrip to Majagual lured me back for 3 more days of sun and sea, 2 nights of craziness, and 1 new hobby in the making. We ended up staying in the dorms at the EcoLodge since there were no rooms available at Matilda's and in general, the whole place was pretty full. I really got into my next book, Angels & Demons, so I basically sat around in the sun reading for the whole first day. Actually, someone probably could have set fire to my hair ... read more

Very long day today. I got up about 4:45 to get to a bus this morning at 5:15. Eventhough it was early, it was nice that I didnt have to sweat my nads off. I fell asleep for 15 mins on the ferry and then for about 35 on the bus from Puntarenas to San Jose. I got off the bus I think about on time (no one has any idea what street is which because none of them are labeled). I jumped in a cab and came to Pangea Hostel which seems pretty nice. Free internet, yadda yadda yadda.... While trying to find a place to eat from my guide book, I found this little Peruvian cafe and grabbed some lunch, and it was wonderful! The best fish I may have had in my whole ... read more

Well folks, I know that I just updated everyone on my comings and goings, yet I almost forgot to include a very important piece of information with regards to our friend Max Kullberg. I received this picture of Max a few days ago, just to let me know that he was alive and thriving (I think) in Guatemala. I decided to rename this photo "GuateMAXa," for obvious reasons. Ahhhh.....Love ah da Yeti. Hate ah da Yeti. Just don't ever try to cage-ah da Yeti. He bites. Un beso a todo el mundo. -Miguel... read more

Well, I'm trying this new online diary so that all of you can login and see what I'm up to. It has been one week and I'm slowly adjusting to my new environment. Everything, and i mean everything moves at a slow pace here. You are waiting a long time for everything and you hardly see anyone in a hurry. It isn't uncommon for people to be 30 minutes to a hour late, time is not of real importance here. Everyone here is extremely nice. You can ask anyone person here for help and they will help you without question. The university is amazing, it has 30,000 students (a few thousand less than U of A) and is located in a part of San Jose called San Pedro. There is a plethora of plant life ... read more

Liz and I hit the sack early... We woke up for the 3rd night in a row by the people next to us bangin. So Liz and I agree that if it happens tomorrow, we´re going to start clapping very loud and saying ¨Bravo, Bravo!¨. Anyway, we hiked the waterfall today and sweated our nads off... But then got in the water, and it was FREEZING!! Probally the only time I´ll be cold here... Hot Rod Johnson (Liz´s love affair) said there are some guys who just came into town from Arizona, so maybe I´ll try to find them tonight and have some good ól home state gossip! On Monday I should be heading back to San Jose and then to Tortugero for some turtle business, so I might not be able to write for a ... read more

The internet here is so slow, Im not sure it my last entry posted, or Im going crazy.... So, if its up twice, I apoligize! The days here are lazy... I got up this morning pretty early for Tico time (the phenominom of no one paying attention to the real time...) and headed to the beach. I got sand stuck in my ass really well, got a little red, headed back home... I didnt have enough money for water, but the lady I bought it from just said to come back whenever and pay her the rest... Liz lost our room key last night, so we couldnt use el bano, and so I spent a few hours with sand in my cunchata till we could get a new key. Just finished up a nice cold shower ... read more
