Hey everyone! We're now on a little island on the east coast of Thailand called Ko Samet, it's really chilled out with white sand and bars on the beach. So looking forward to a few days relaxing here after all the travelling we've had to do. We left Chiang Mai on the night train yesterday and really enjoyed our time there as we managed to do quite a bit of stuff in our three days. We did a trek through the jungle which was great and we visited a hill tribe called the long necks. They wear rings round their necks to lengthen them and while this was interesting it did feel like a show village which was a shame. We then trekked a bit further to an elephant park where we got to ride one ... read more

Up fairly early on Sunday to do last minute packing for the beach and set off on a hot coach drive down south to Ko Samet. We were given lunch in a banana leaf which looked exciting... until you opened it and there were all sorts in there, everything from a lotus leaf to pork bits! So we were quite happy to stop off for some fast food. We reached the jetty a few hours later and lugged our bags onto the boat (which I mistakenly assumed would be something resembling a small ferry but was really a double decker boat with a few deck chairs!) for a twenty minute journey to the beach. We had been a little spoilt for hotel rooms after the resort we were at on Friday night - for some reason ... read more

Well unforunately the one thing that has really stuck in my mind from Thailand is the bloody rain! Ok yes its the wet season, but I dont think there has been one day when it hasnt rained and my back pack is still smelling of fish from one particular boat trip where it got soaked! I flew from Bali on September 11th to Bangkok via KL, having forgotten quite how awful BKK traffic can be, but finally got the good old Khao SAn Road at about 11 and immediately went out for a well needed Singha with an English guy I had met on tje bus while waiting for Rachel to arrive. Had to restrain myself the next day when Rachel shopped like a demon (even by my standards - 7 pairs of fisherman trousers is ... read more

One thing that is fantastic about Thailand is that there are endless amounts of exotic beaches that are within 3 hours of Bangkok. This past weekend I went to Koh Samet with my friend Martin, who works for Reuters. The island is great because it is off the tourism map and is frequented by local Thais. Meaning it costs less and there are less people there. Two definite pluses. Below are some video links from some of the things that happened on the beach Saturday night. Hence, the Ring of Fire title to this entry. Playing with fire All around, the island was absolutely fantastic. The beaches were clean and the water was just the right temperature. It was hot but with a great breeze that made it possible to lie in the sun all day ... read more

Enjoying relaxing on the island of Ko Samet at the moment, but it didn't start off like that! A journey by bus which was supposed to take 4 hours ended up taking 8. No one is in a rush around Thailand (apart from Bangkok) No one cares that you've been waiting an hour for a boat to leave. Anyway no need stressing! Jason banged his head whilst getting off the boat but unfortunately I missed it but all the Thai's thought it was hillarious! As we didn't get here til late on the first night we stayed in the first and last place available which was literally a shed on stilts!! It cost 200baht which is about 3 pounds. All it had was a fan, a bed and millions of creepy crawlies!!! I didn't sleep a ... read more

2nd stop was Ko Samet not originally planned in our trip. Ko Samet is an island off the east coast of thailand, and a bit of a weekend get away for the thais from the hussle and bussle of Bangkok. The travel agent that was sorting our visa's out for vietnam convinced us to go. It was a wise decision. After a tiring 4 hour drive leaving Bangkok in the early hours and then a 45 minute ride on the boat we settled for the first beach that you come to on the island. Stayed at a place called Jep's Bungalows which was 30 sec walk from the stunning beach (think the Beach) and only cost us 2 quid a night. We basically chilled out for a couple of days, got drunk in the evenings with ... read more

So, finally getting this blog up to date! Having left Bangkok we caught a bus down to the little pier of Ban Phe from there we took a boat to the beautiful little island of Ko Samet. We spent our first three nights in the cheap and cheerful Jeps Bungalows, it's a nice little place on the beach, where we met a guy call Phall from Cambodia who spoke excellent English, he' taken great care of us and we wish him and Lay (his wife) and his children all the best in reaching there dream of buying a house in Cambodia for there family. On only the third day here i managed to run into the sea with the camera in my pocket so the photos are a bit limited. We spent our first nights just ... read more

Yet ANOTHER head doing 20 hour trip by seven different modes of transport and we arrive in Ko Samet. "GORGEOUS" is the describing word for this island. We chose it because it's not a million miles away from Bangkok and is definately the nicest looking island we've visited in Thailand. Not alot of people and puka beaches so the days have been spent on the beach and the evenings have been spent partying hard with a couple from Birmingham who we've met up with. So there we go. The 2 studs is shortly guna be back to 1. How da hell has 12 months passed??????????? I'm so happy to be flying to Joburg on wednesday but absolutely gutted i booked the bloody flight when England are playing Russia. I stop in Dubai for a couple of ... read more

so it appears that travel blog's server blew and lost all of my entries.. so i no longer trust it :o( but i'm safe and alot happier than i was, still on the beach waiting to come home i dont' really have any pictures and for some reason the USB ports only on this island are slightly too small for a regular usb.. and they electricute the device your plugging into them good bye ipod.. i loved you (its still under warenty.. but its just no fun that i won't have a new one until i get home) so in order to post pictures i have to burn them onto CD (100B) then upload them.. and seeing as how this site is no longer a reliable source of communication.. how about facebook? everyone seems to have ... read more
