A trip to an island “paradise” is surely an understatement for my excursion this weekend. Kho Samed, located about 2.5 hours east of Bangkok, is a tiny, gorgeous island marked by white sandy beaches, beach bars, and bungalows. I found it to be a very nice place for some rest, relaxation, and drunken mayhem that I will most definitely return to before my trip is over. My friend from UCONN Carl came to visit me for a week and that is what gave me the brilliant idea to take him to an island in SE Asia. We grabbed a third group member when Adam decided to join and we hopped on the BTS to catch a ride to the island. Our first obstacle was trying to find transportation to the island. I didn’t exactly “plan” the ... read more

I've done some traveling since my last update. Where? Mostly to destinations within Thailand such as Phetchabun (northern Thailand), Khao Yai and Hua Hin; but, I've also taken a trip to the U.S. to see family & friends. However, there's really too much to cover. So, let's keep it simple... and share about my most recent trip to Ko Samet, an island in the Gulf of Thailand. Due to its proximity to Bangkok, it's a popular destination for those in Bangkok seeking nice beaches with limited time. Although it's fairly close, it's not THAT close. Through public transportation, the trip took approximately 5 1/2 hours from door to door. That's 5 1/2 hours from walking out my apartment door in Bangkok to walking into my resort room's door on Ao Phai beach on the island of ... read more

Another read for you peeps! So we were back in Bangkok and done the rest of our sightseeing. The whole reason we came back to Bangkok was because we had to apply for our Vietnamese visas and they take roughly 5 days to process. Now anyone that knows me, knows i liuke to get the best deal i possibly can on anything, but on these visas i proper had my pants pulled down over the price! I this annoyed me for days and days! We paid 2250bht each to have them processed from the National government office, whowever we later found out you can get it for 1400 bht on Koh San Road from a recognised T.A.T agent! .......i was not happy! So we stuck in our visa requests on the monday and come wednesday we ... read more

Hello, Back in Bangkok now for our last night in Thailand before flying off to oz tommorrow. Our last week in Thailand has been spent on Koh Samet, one of the island's about 50 mins off the coast. Really beatiful place, spent most of the time chilling out on the beach and going out at night. It's not been without incident tho, mainly the moped crash... we hired moped's to explore the island on thursday which was really good fun, altho they really should give you some sort of lesson before letting you hire them. We went all the way to the bottom of the island, which is mostly dirt track, then on the way back Helen and Emma (on the same bike) skided off round a corner down a steep hill. Me and Laurent were ... read more

Saturday, March 7 So after a bustling week in Thailand me and my friend Dan (New Jersey) headed for the beach. My friend Tisha's aunt owns a place on one of the beaches on the island but we couldn't get a room for our first night there so we had to just hope that we would get a place. Our bus would leave at 8:30 so we had to get up at around 7:00. Apparently my friend had too many drinks from the night before so he was a little sick and hard to wake up so we were running a little late but got there in time to buy our tickets though. Just before boarding the bus however I witnessed an interesting thing at 8:00. The loud speaker sounded in the station and everyone stopped ... read more

Spent a few nights in Ko Samet. We arrived in the afternoon on friday with no reservations and had a bit of a time trying to find a "bungalow". Ended up finding one at the Lost Resort up the hill, but a very short walk. The room was a room, nothing special but at least it had air conditioning and a friendly gecko! We moved on the last day down to Jeps bungalows which was much more popular with the tourists and a little closer to the action. There were many local Thai's taking a weekend trip, as Ko Samet is so close to Bangkok. The beaches here are beautiful. The whitest sand I have ever seen. Feels like you are walking on a combination of white chalk powder and snow. Very sticky! Enjoyed a few ... read more

Flic Firstly, apologies for the lack of recent blogging activity! We've both been so busy with the RealGap stuff so haven't really had a chance to update this, so I'll do a very quick over-view of the last month! We met everyone from RealGap in Bangkok on the 13th Feb and all went out for a "few" drinks in a couple of bars -- definitely the way to break the ice with a group of complete strangers! We didn't spend long in Bangkok though, and it was soon time to head off to Singburi where we'd spend the next 2-3 weeks. Our accommodation was somewhat basic, although, other than the bugs, there is nothing to worrent complaining about. Our first week was 'culture week' and we spent an awful lot of time wandering around temples, markets ... read more

This weekend, we took a trip to Ko Samet, and island off the coast in the Gulf of Thailand. It's a popular destination spot for Thai's during Valentines Day weekend. It's about 4 hours from Bangkok. The island itself is a national park, so its pretty touristy, but the beaches were beautiful! We got there Friday night around 7, and ate dinner on mats on the beach and watched the stars! It was so nice! We then went out for a few drinks and had a nice night. The next day, we went to Candlelight Beach, which is farther down the coast from where we were staying on Had Saikaew Beach. The water was so clear! We spent the day relaxing on the beach. I swam over to the coral reefs, walked through the tide pools, ... read more

So after another long drive in a convoy of Mini Buses the group arrived at the ferry port to board the boat to Koh Samet. Koh Samet is a national park of great natural beauty in the Rayong province, not so far from Pattaya and Bangkok. But the close distance is probably the only thing this island has in common with the other two. Ko Samet has fabulous beaches but a minimum of night life, bars and discotheques. The island is located about seven kilometres from main land and the Samet beaches are among the best. The ferry across took us about 30 minute and we were soon in the back of green open backed taxi jeeps taking us the short 10 minutes to our hotel on the beach front. More like a Public toilet than ... read more
