We soon found out we were not the biggest tour group on the plane…certainly the loudest but not the biggest - no surprises there! Being Ben’s 17th birthday a cake was provided and, as you can imagine a rather large chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ was soon to follow much to the annoyance of the other passengers. Hopefully 17 will not be the only milestone someone from our team makes on tour but this is what captain Cameron Skinner had to say about him. “ Chaps…um…really good to see another one of our chaps turning seventeen - hopefully he gets with English and New Zealand girls in one week.” The official ‘Chap Count’ (How many times Mr. Sullivan says ‘Chaps’) is at 4 after 4 hours and the smart money is on at least 500 by the ... read more

I write this entry in Bangkok for I have been too short in Singapore to find a computer. Due to the fact that I became this day, June 12th , grandfather again I ll go home a bit earlier than planned. It s a grandson and like the father, my youngest son not so serious in planning for he entered this world about 5 weeks too early. Probably wondering how it is around here. So I had to change my schedule. Went to Butterworth station at 5.30 in the morning to change my train tickets what took about 45 minutes. It s all possible in Malaysia but not done probably very often for the guy at the shelter had to call his boss who was still sleeping how he had to do this in their computer ... read more

Part 1 - leaving Malaysia :( I have just embarked on the final leg of my south east Asia trip so thought I would start writing my final Asia blog entry. At the moment I am on board the night train from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to Singapore, an 11 hour train journey which plan to spend sleeping. I'll start from where I feft off on my last entry. I spent today sorting out my luggage ready for my next flight, checked out of my room at 12 and put my bags into storage. I took a walk to the anuja for one last time for an orange juice, an ice mill, a roti canai and rice with chiken! I said goodbye to the staff and returned to the hostel. I then sorted out my insurance ... read more

Upon arrival at Singapore's immigration we were diverted into a 'special screening' tent. The effects of the Swine flu are really spreading worldwide and as newcomers to Singapore we were scanned with thermal imaging to see if we had been infected!! However once we were cleared 'virus free' up next was the drug trafficking check. Michelle breezed through without any questions but Lee was put through the mill. 'What are you're plans in Singapore' hmmmm tough question... tourism? once the official finished his questioning we were cleared and then onto the bag scanning zone!!!... apparently you can get fined for all kinds of things that are common in Blighty .. i.e J walking, dropping litter... you can tell this country LIVES BY THE RULES!! But it's so clean. Roads are lined with litter free grassy verges, ... read more

Well the big O E is underway and the first days experience has worked out a treat. Our trip started with a slightly delayed start but nevertheless within a half hour of when we thought we might depart, which is a good start for us. Neighbour,Julia was there to wave us off !! We spent a lovely day with Leigh & Cormac and Erin and Brent and signed them up to take over our finances in need . The promised rain came in as we prepared to leave for the aiport.First we had seen in over a month. A farewell drink at the airport passed the time until it was almost boarding time and we headed for the departure gate. There was a double round of hugs and kisses all round before we headed off through to ... read more

Last december I got a chance to visit Changi Airport, Singapore. It was not my destination , actually I was flying to Melbourne through Singapore.. I was really excited to get there and some how I had a feeling that this journey is going to be an unforgettable experience for me. I was going Melbourne via Singapore. I flew to Singapore from Delhi airport. It was around 5:45pm when I reached above the singapore. Fortunately, I got a window seat in aircraft and when I looked down..Awh...it was awesome!! It started drizzling outside but sky was clear and islands and ships around Singapore were quite vivid to me. I was amazed to see the bright and twinkling lights of city, buldings and ships. All of them were making the scene quite magical. Soon I was at the ... read more

Clovek se prokleto hitro ... read more

Travel day. Back to our favorite place on earth…the airport. We said bye to Ho Chi Minh City in the morning and hello AGAIN to Singapore! We were already booked for the 4:40 pm flight to Bali, but we were going to TRY to go stand-by on the 1 pm. We knew this was going to be a feat…landing at noon from HCMC, getting our bags, going through customs and taking the airtram to another terminal. And while we tried, we failed…by NINE minutes. Boo. On the upside, if you are to be stuck in any airport in the entire world for any amount of time, the Changi airport in Singapore is where you want to be. There is free wi-fi throughout, amazing shops, restaurants, movie theaters, spas, nature walks, oxygen lounges, arcades, you name it…they ... read more
