We are currently at Changi airport, awaiting our onward flight to Mumbai (and hopefully our travel rep at 1.55am!!!), having just landed from Brisbane airport. Driving on the motorway yesterday was truly scary, with many cars just stopping due to the ferocity of the downpours ... and there was something of a siege mentality about the people I met in Brisbane when I went in to drop the camper off. As you will no doubt have seen in the news, the floods in Brisbane last night and today were far worse than those predicted with considerable loss of life, mass evacuations and much damage to infrastructure and property. Whilst we were waiting to depart it became apparent that the staff in the airport were not the usually cheerful Qantas staff but were obviously pre-occupied with thoughts ... read more

Changi Airport Wireless Internet. A note to those who would like to use the Free Wifi at Changi Airport Singapore. I found a brochure while I was waiting for the plane at the Changi Airport Budget Terminal. Changi Airport, at Singapore has four terminals. They are A, B, C, and the Budget terminal. Of course, I was at the budget terminal waiting for a flight with Tiger airlines, to Trivanthinum, in India. The terminal showed that you can have Free wifi at the terminal, and for those of us trying to get these blogs out while still travelling, that is a god send. There is a hitch though. You need to have an account for your mobile phone with Singtel to activate the wireless, Otherwise you need to get a brochure from the Changi Airport officers ... read more

Nothing better to keep one awake at the airport in Singapore then a grande black tea at Starbucks! Either that or sleep on a bench at McDonald's with the other overnighters.... A little adventure never hurt anyone....Gerry in Singapore - 1....Backpack in Singapore - 0...... Should have been nervous frmo the start considering every time i tried to clear security at Vancouver and Hong Kong I was pulled aside so they could check my boarding passes... Oh how I love attention! My guess is that the new relationship between Westjet and Cathay Pacific has a few wrinkles still in it. Westjet provided me with all my boarding passes in Calgary which appeared to be quite different then what Cathay prints out at other terminals. All is good, after a few minutes here and there, my boarding ... read more

Yes, i know i said my last blog would be the last from Asia, but our flight to OZ isn't until 8.30 tonight, and i thought i would use this time to write down a few highlights from our first month of traveling. These are no where near the only good things we've done, but more like some stand at moments from each place we've been to; Tuk-Tuk rides and Kao San road in Bangkok, Elephant trekking in Krabi Viewpoint climbing, the vibe and the views in Railay Hiring mopeds in Ko lanta. Cliff jumping, Maya bay and beach parties in Ko phi-phi Beach bumming in Ko samui with bungalows literally on the beach. Of course, the full moon party in Ko phangan Petronus towers, Batu caves and the Chinatown market in Kuala Lumpur Mustafa center ... read more

Hi all Just under 5 hrs from our flight to London Heathrow Had a good day passing time visiting Sentosa Island Lots of attractions ie rides and MGM Studios but it's really just a huge theme park with lots of hotels and more being built Not somewhere we will bother with again and not anywhere to particularly recommend as a must do although there are some sandy beaches there and it only costs $S7.40 for the return trip - about £3.70 Well that's a fond goodbye until our next trip and blog Regards to all Derek & joan xx... read more

Hi all Just flown in from Melbourne Plane changed from A380 Airbus to Boeing 777-300 last week when we reserved seats but on arrival at Tullamarine Airport found it was a 747-400 and so seat choices didn't match Will take up with Singapore Airlines on return to Uk as didn't get refund of seat reservation costs! Still it was a good flight but for 1 hour all crew were confined to seats due to turbulence and all cabin services suspended. Better safe though. Arr ived to thunder and lightning and tropical storm and landing delayed due to a previous storm a few minutes earlier. We managed to land in the window between them - wouldn't have fancied coming in through the lightning and torrential rain It's 24'C now and humidity of 94% so it's not easy ... read more

Had 6 hours sleep at the Ambassador Transit Hotel within the airport. We took a 2.5 hour free tour of the cultural highlights of Singapore - temples, the Grand Prix, the business area, the Chinese quarter, the Indian quarter - impressive !!!! Clean, compact and vibrant city on a island measuring 20km by 80km. Our Chinese tour guide was the queen of dry humour but he did put us on to a great Chinese food court in the Basement of the airport. Stopover completed then came the SHOCK,HORROR -in the security check before our last leg back to Brisbane, Singapore Customs confiscate our alcohol. The alcohol was still sealed and within the alcohol limits and was never out of the secured area of the airport ????. The officer showed us the ruling by the Australian Department ... read more

Travel blog day one: Note that photos will be uploaded to my Picasa: http://picasaweb.google.com/AaronBrownSound/SouthEastAsia_2010# I began my journey by spending four days getting everything ready. I quickly realized how much there was to do when planning a five week vacation to SouthEast Asia. Thankfully, a few of my friends have been to Thailand before and shared their valuable advice and lessons learned! I'll put up the full list of things I brought later with the results of how it all went. Today is the day I left for Singapore. I woke up to a beautiful girl laying next to me smiling. That's right, my girlfriend, Monica, was free the day before I left so she stayed the night and gave me a ride to the airport in the morning. This was the best way to kickstart ... read more
