More Singapore updates: Monday: Party day! Raymond's parents hold a big party for all the relatives and close friends. We started the day by riding the Singapore Flyer the first day it was open. It is a HUGE ferris wheel (165 meters!!!) that has been closed for about 6 weeks since it broke. Fortunately, it did not break while we were riding it. It has a nice commentary that tells you all about the Singapore skyline. I will give you a little bit of Singapore history... it was settled in 18-oh-something by Sir Raffles (I forgot his first name) from England. He signed an agreement with the Malay people to have it become a British colony. Mr. Raffles knew it would be a great place to have a port, and there it was established. Singapore has ... read more

Hi All, Wow, it has been a busy 6 days in Singapore!! I have not had time to blog at all :-0 so this will be a long one! I will break it down in days in case you have to read this in stages, because I may go on for a while :-) Saturday: Late late Friday night we picked up Raymond's friend Kevin from the airport (well, Raymond picked him up, I stayed in bed :-)) Saturday our purpose was to keep Kevin awake! We went back to the East Coast Parkway, one of my favorite places in Singapore, and rented bikes. We biked along the parkway for 7 or 8 miles. It is such a pretty path! Everything (and I mean everything) in Singapore is planned, and this path is no exception. It ... read more

After 6 months of travel we were exausted. Travelling does that to you; living out of a backpack wasn't an issue as we each had about 3 shirts and 2 pair of shorts to contend with; the problem was the constant moving, lugging bags, and finding buses or trains and places to stay all with in a budget. In retrospect, you remember all the amazing parts and certainly forget the hardships; writing the blog well after we finished the trip, I find myself drifting back to memorable places, retasting food by memory or visualising the bustling local markets teaming with goods costing next to nothing compared to Australia. Slightly diverging, Australia is expensive! I'm talking London prices expensive, and with salaries not matching is quite disconcerting. Anyway, writing the blog is a great way of taking ... read more

Ah, the sweet smell of Singapore! We are back in Changi airport, where we lived for four days after our plane from Heathrow was diverted due to those pesky protestors at Bangkok. At the time we didn't really appreciate it, but today we have been taking in the sights, scents and sounds prior to our flight to Bali. We couldn't help but go into the lobby of the Crowne Plaza hotel, just to take a whiff of the distinctive musky but sparkling clean smell of the place. It is one of those smells that always reminds you of a time or place and it was a strangely joyous lungful that we took in upon stepping through the door. Wary of over indulging, we stayed for just a few seconds before continuing our comeback tour of the ... read more

Singapore is so steamy and wet! Vast difference to the cold sleety rain in London. Once again I didn't get a wink of sleep... can't believe I'm going to work tomorrow! What a drag! Anyway, 8 hours till I'm back in Sydney! Can't wait for some Summer weather yay! xoxo... read more

This whole travelling on the cheap thing has its ups and its downs and this was particularly highlighted by our 200 Baht or AU$8 per night accommodation in Chiang Mai. On all but one of our nights we were awoken through our paper thin walls to the sounds of debauchery and seemingly hardcore sex but while it was annoying at the time in hindsight it is pretty damn funny and gave me an decent intro to this blog. Chiang Mai was a fantastic return to city life after truly being away from any hustle and bustle for a couple of weeks. The old city, surrounded by moats and crumbling walls could easily make you think that you were there 200 ago, but then cross the moat and immediately you are thrown into chaos, traffic and fast ... read more

This is only going to be a quick update because I have a little time ticker in the corner of this free internet terminal. The flights have been surprisingly goo up to this point in time. Sitting down for hours on end has made me more sore then I could ever have imagined. I am currently in Singapore right now at 2:30AM in the morning wandering around the airport looking for Wednesday. I left on Tuesday and landed on Thursday so I'm missing a day somewhere, I hope this isn't a trend that will continue. It has been a fairly uneventful trip so far but I have met several people who are traveling to Australia or Thailand that I may meet up with as my travels progress. So far I have seen the insides of the ... read more

we are in singapore airport at the moment waiting for our 3rd flight of the day!its been a long 1! so we eventually made it to Probolinggo(or pelligrino as nick called it in his last blog-he used to play for liverpool!) we went to the public bus station in Bali, which took an hour, then waited on the bus for 3hrs until it was full. we arrived in Probolinggo 8.5hrs later with the intention of heading straight for a bed as we were pooped-but no that didnt happen. we got chucked off the bus at a travel agent and he persuaded us to hang around his gaff for another 3 hrs then go to the volcano for sunrise. sounded like a good idea at the time. so after getting showered with a bum gun (anyone been ... read more

After last night's heavy session, you wouldn't believe how relieved I was that todays scheduled East Coast and Changi Tour was an afternoon start, however, this didn’t stop the enthusiastic if slightly wayward room service girl disturbing my sleep at 7am, by knocking at my door armed with Ironing board and Iron...Why!!! Having to then explain at length in my best local dialect words to the effect of 'You are in the wrong place love', I figured that now I was up...I may as well go have breakfast and upon doing so ran into the two adrenalin junkies Ivy and Irene plunging into their respective plates from not so great heights with their skydiving idea still deeply concerning me. The tour was a pleasant one, taking in the Changi Museum and Tampines housing estate (govt funded ... read more

Hello, Well what a day!1st we woke up to a swarm of ants in our room - luckily no wear near our beds but still too close for comfort, then we ventured to the heart of China Town and the wet markets to try and be adventurous and sample some local cuisine before we headed off but it was really horrible - not as bad as Little India but a close 2nd - it was heaving, meat was hung everywhere and the smell was horrid, needless to say we didn't stay and instead jumped back on the MRT to Clarke Quay again for our last lunch in Singapore - we ended up in a Hooters (no comments please) by the river as they had a lunchtime special of $10 dollars, roughly 5 pound and that was ... read more
