Costa Rica - From Lima we headed to Costa Rica to visit a mate who has bought some land with holiday lodges in it. It is incredible there - his place is the garden of Eden! It´s in a tropical rainforest area on the coast. Our friend´s ground hasnt been cleared at all to accomodate building, instead the cabins and paths have been built in and through the exisiting jungle. It´s incredible, the paths just wind through the thick flora with huge palm leaves and all manner of exotic plants and colours. Highly recommended place for anyone who wants to treat themselves to a holiday with a difference (www.moannalodge.com). There is an open kitchen in the centre of the grounds and, while you eat, there are humming birds hovering in front of plants everywhere you look, ... read more

Hi all.... SUPER DUPER LONG UPDATE ALERT!!! I have to do it though, since I've been slacking the last 3 weeks!! If you don't love me and are super lazy, just scroll down to the bottom and read the bold RECAP!!! I'll throw some pictures on mañana... I'm done with my trip... capped it off with bungee jumping off a 265-foot high bridge over a gorgeous Costa Rican river canyon (I have dvd of this!). I'm still here in Alajuela Costa Rica but leaving mañana (in the Mexican sense) to begin the return journey back north to Puerto Morelos. I'll be busing from capital city to capital city, spending 1 or 2 nights around but not in each, stopping over in places I missed along the way. I don't wish to remain in Puerto Morelos long ... read more

We decided to kill some time by Lake Atitlan before our flight out to Peru. The Lake is one of Guatemalas main attractions and it was easy to see why. It was beautiful. We headed from Panajachel, where all the buses arrive, to San Pedro. It was a very bumpy 30 minute boat ride to get there. San Pedro is a travellers hangout, where roast spuds can be bought, and English football was watched. Yes!! It was a nice place to relax for a couple of days, though whether this had anything to do with the view, and lack of anything else to do, or whether it was the passive smoking of various herbs, I guess we will never know. We went to San Marcos, a smaller village on the other side of the Lake, after ... read more

Ive made it back home to Costa Rica and will update you even if you dont want it, since I have free internet in San Jose. :) Well, what a mission! It started yesterday in Ecuador when I picked up my new passport (after the other one was stolen). My credit card hadnt arrived yet but they can send that to me in Costa Rica. Anyway, they were all doom and gloom at the South African consulate, telling me if I didnt go to Ecuador immigration to get my entry date stamped into my new passport, I would be fined $300 USD at airport immigration. Thats cool, I tracked down immigration early the next day (the day I was flying out) and managed to charm the officer into giving me a new stamp on the spot. ... read more

Que Pasa Chicos? My trip is coming to a wonderful close. We are tucked away on the beautiful carribbean island of Roatan. Unfourtunately, November is the rainy season and we havn't had all that nice weather. This weekend is sopposed to be nice though. I am offically a PADI open water certified scuba diver! I finished my course today. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing Scuba Diving is. I am usually a little cautious when it comes to water but I felt completely comfortable down there at 65 feet scuba-ing around. It is so surreal to see a gigantic reef wall with the most beautiful fish swimming around. Everything is quiet except for the sound of your own breathing and the bubbles you make as you exhale. I remember watching my mother play ... read more

Well we´ve been lounging around, taking in all the sights, smells and sounds in this old colonial town of Granada. After spending a few great days checking out the sights with our friends Jenny and Nate, it was time to bid them ¨adios¨ as they had to head back home. We decided that this was a good place to stop for a couple days and take a few spanish lessons. Our feeling is we need to at least be introduced to the basics of the spanish language so we can comunicate effectively. Granada is a colonial town that is 400 years old. Being a colonial town, all the buildings are constructed connecting each other which gives it a very maze-like feeling when attempting to navigate it. All the buildings have an inner courtyard that sports a ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica » Heredia November 24th 2006

Yep, we're here. It's been just over a week and we are still pinching ourselves -- and just figuring out where we are. Streets are generally not named here, or if they have a name, no one uses them, so much of our attention has gone to learning how to get around in the neighborhood of our hotel -- find groceries, a playground for the guys, some twine, miscellaneous stuff like that. The hotel is at the top of a hill from which there are spectacular views of green, lush mountains, usually with clouds over their peaks like pillows sitting on a plush couch. They are green because the rainy season is just ending. In fact, it has rained every afternoon since we arrived, except yesterday, which has actually been kind of nice as a built-in ... read more

We headed ever south after Corker and stayed in another beach place called Placencia, the beach here was gorgeous, the stereotypical Caribbean postcard, swaying palms, blue ocean, golden sands. Doesn’t beat Piccadilly gardens on a sunny day though!! We did nothing but chill out and I got to watch Utd v Chelsea so more than happy apart from the result that is. That was it on our tour of Belize, short and sweet, which it needed to be as very expensive. Enjoyed the place and culture as all very different and the language of Garifuna, which is a mixture of English, Spanish and Swahili. Listening to the locals was just like the lilt adverts so brought a smile to our faces! The food her was also brilliant the standard of rice and beans and some jerk ... read more
