Ladies, if you're hard-pressed finding a husband, a flight to Egypt and/or the Middle East is as good as a walk down the aisle. I was proposed to 12 times since stepping onto Arabic soil in Jordan a few weeks ago! Bus Estonia and guide Erki delivered another wonderful experience - one week in Jordan. What an incredible place. The Roman ruins of Jerash, the magnificent naturally fortified ancient Nabatean city of Petra, the country's biblical significance, the kind people, their culture, the desert, the Bedouins, Bedouin tea and smothering myself in mineral-rich mud from the Dead Sea. The Middle East is one region I definitely plan to explore further. Next stop was Cairo. Jordanians warned me about Cairenes and their persistent ways, but I put their alerts down to a friendly trans-Red Sea rivalry. But ... read more

I really love the villages of Africa. The air conditioning at our hotel is nice when the temperature hits 40 degrees, cable every few weeks brings me a luxury I used to think of as a curse and to find a grocery store would be like finding the golden ticket. All the luxuries of home are extra enjoyable when you've been in Africa for a few months, but the villages are really where it's at. There is something so innocent and pure about being there and the villages are what makes me love Africa so much. Jordan gets bored sometimes when we hang out there too much but he even reminds himself that it won't be forever that we can just decide to go into a village for a few hours and play with the kids. ... read more

Version FR un peu plus bas Hello, I am in Livingstone in Zambia near the amazing Victoria Falls. I know this is out of order but I wanted to share some pics of Maputo in Mozambique, I was finally able to resize my pictures and they now upload pretty quickly (great news!). I would love to go back to this city and spend more time exploring the markets and trying more of the local dishes. So, here are a few pictures of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. This was my first big African city and I loved it! So much energy, so many colors and so much going on! This is exactly how I had pictured it. We spent a couple days there and were able to stroll through the market, eat awesome grilled prawns with ... read more

Orange River Last night was our first real camp. Felix Unite is well set up, and we were allocated one of the lawn areas close to the amenities. Everything worked reasonably smoothly, although I suspect that we will get much better at the routine things like setting up and knocking down the campsites as the trip progresses. Feed the man meat Had a BBQ meal last night and again tonight. Big servings of meat on the menu - far more than we really need, especially while we are travelling and not exercising that much. Canoeing Had a good long walk this morning. Arrived back to find that the canoe trip guides wanted to leave earlier than we had been notified, and so did not get a shower or shave after my walk. Martina had the gall ... read more

So we left Ghana a while back now and after entering Togo on a river-bed type road where the delapidated border posts were filled with mountains of corn on the cobs (don't ask - I don't know) we have headed south through Togo and then crossed at a slightly more uptempo border into Benin where we now reisde in the eastern most town and capital of Porto Novo. Togo was very small but very beautiful, the town of Atakpamé our highlight which was a small town with a real French colonial feel to it, Peugeot 504s rolling down the cobbled streets to a backdrop of wide leaved vegetation that gave me a sense of an Indian Jungle. We took a trip higher into the mountains early in the morning, the mist still hangin in the valleys ... read more

Travelblog - 6 November 06 Muli Bwangi (Greetings) from Senga Bay, Salima. I have arrived at Ndi Moyo Cottage and my baptism of Malawi was an immediate familiarisation - in at the deep end - of what life is like here. The flight was good and the service on Ethiopian Airlines was more than acceptable; a good route to take via Addis Ababa and then direct to Lilongwi and inexpensive in relative terms. Tony met me at 1.00pm and we drove in to Lilongwi for four hours of going round various businesses while the 4-wheel drive was being put through its annual certification for road-worthiness. There are some strict (regulations!) to adhere to in order to avoid (difficulties!). It starts to get dark at 5:30 so the drive back to Senga Bay via Salima which takes ... read more

Hi Everyone, Here they are, a few pics of the widlife in Africa. It was tough picking only a few, as you can imagine I have a ton of them, when you are 10 feet away from an elephant or a rhino, one suddenly turns into a Japanese tourist and can't stop firing the camera! The game drives were incredible, whether in the morning (wake up call at 3:30 am!) afternoon (searing heat) or evening (the perfect golden light - a photographer's paradise). A few of us, especially Franz and Stefan were really good at spotting wildlife, which can be tough with the tall grass and dust. We saw 3 lions but they were a bit far and I was not able to snatch a picture. I am sure I will get more shots in Botswana! ... read more
