My first entry into the travel blog is necessarily pre-travel. I need to make sure that you all get the link and have the option of following my tour around the globe - if you are remotely interested! Thanks to everyone who has provided guidance and ideas for my trip to date. Hopefully, I will get to see everything I want, including catching a baseball game and the odd Broadway show in NY and the 'Roman Holiday' sights of Rome, and to achieve everything I want including getting my open water dive certificate in the Red Sea, ascending Mt Kilimanjaro and to be understood, at least occasionally, in China! I promise to keep regularly updating this site and look forward to your feedback! love Merryn... read more

I dont know if I'd mentioned that I'd moved to another backpackers further down Grey st, 'All Nations', anyway it seemed really relaxed and I've got chatting to a couple of friendly girls: a German called Simone and an English Julia. We talked about our thoughts about seeing The Penguin Parade on Philip Island - a little tour that sounded amazing, especially since Penguins are my most fave animals and the thought of seeing 30 or so of them emerging from the water sounded wicked! Trouble is, we were all broke, but had spotted another guy in the hostel who had a car and thought we could do a DIY trip so managed to rope him into driving us all the way up there for the day! Well, we got there to find that it would ... read more

Hi guys, Been a long time! We are in Melbourne at the moment and settled in nicely (only for a few more weeks though). Since our last entry we travelled though Malaysia, visiting Kuala Lumpur and Penang where we met Gemma's Dad and uncle and their friends on holiday. A quick stop in Singapore and a few days in Perth before arriving here in Melbourne. KL is a fast developing, vibrant city, the country has large Indian and Chinese populations so it makes for an interesting cultural mix. Of course one of the most famous landmarks are the Petronas Towers (below), they are spectacular, a wonderful combination of engineering and art. We spent a few days exploring the city (which is enough) and the shops (there is a shopping centre on every street almost!) We spent ... read more

Well hello there everyone!!! Just to give you an update on what's been going on. Been pretty hectic this last week!!! Well we left New Zealand (very sad!) and rocked up in Sydney-well I think it was Sydney, or at least some part of the orient judging by all the locals!!!!! haha! It looked like life was going to be a breeze for us and that everything would fall in our lap! Erm...Hello?...Do we actually know ourselves???? Of course none of this was to be! Our dream house was about 4days of travelling out of town and no jobs were quite right. We were just feeling slightly depressed when an angel in the form of Mr Posh James (not just a clever name!)-a friend from home-managed to completely turn everything around!!! Bless him thanks to him ... read more

I was picked up at 7:40 to go on a long day out along the Great ocean Road. The road was built after the first world war to link a number of seaside towns together, and was inspired by a similar road in California. Our first stopping point was world famous surf spot Bell's Beach, currently home to the Ripcurl Pro surfing tournament. The tournament wasn't running when we arrived, due to there being a lack of surf. This meant we got an unobscured view of the beach. I also came across an information sign in which a huntsman had set up home between the sign itself and the plastic covering - and somehow it still managed to move around in there! After Bell's we stopped at Anglesea for coffee before hitting the road proper. The ... read more

Sitting on Brighton beach with a caramel & chock chip ice cream just meters away from the sea. The beach has a few less pebbles that the one back home, but lovely just the same. Think the tide is coming in. Borrowed one of the hostel's free-to-hire bikes, well, I say free, I had to leave my credit card there which probably means it's been cloned and some toe-rag is buying a Gucci track suit as I write. Still, it's been nice to escape St Kilda and come along the coast now that the rain has finally past and the southerly antartic winds have been swapped for a much more plesent breeze from the Northern deserts. Only another 5 days before I head up North - yes, I finally talked to the travel agent and booked ... read more

It's my last day in Australia, I moved my flight forward. I would have been so gutted if I hadn't done what I did in the morning...Ramsay Street...sorry!! The bus picked us up late, so I started to worry about making my flight on time! Once it did it was the cheesiest thing ever. The theme tune over and over! video clips from a young Kylie and Jason whats-his-face, and NEIGHBOURS written boldly over the side of the bus, no disguise! Funny enough everyone on the bus was British! Ramsay Street is set in the suburbs where it is so beautiful. The road is so tiny, like you wouldn't realise! The letter boxes don't actually have the right numbers on them, you can see where they put them on!We weren't allowed to go into the studios, ... read more

*pis out from down under, for denne gang... read more

I was very excited to get up for 11am to be taken to Philip Island on my last full day in Australia. Lee, our tour guide was lovely and very chatty. It took him over an hour to collect him then we were on our way. On the way we stopped at Mura Wildlife Park, a center for injured, stray etc animals. We went straight to the wombats, fat brown badgers but very cute! We patted Molly when all she wanted to do was sleep! Me and Skinny had our photo taken with a koala but as Victoria have the biggest in Australia it is illegal to touch them. We had already had our photo taken with one in Australia zoo. We saw a rat being fed to a Tazmanian Devil and fed Wallabies, now i ... read more
