Today I bought my flight - and since the cost of going up to cairns went up today, I ended up buying a flight to the Sunshine Coast instead! Cause a bit of sunshine is just what I need at the moment!! Melbourne is getting COLD. Well...atleast Australia Cold. It might just be the fact that I've been waking up at early hours of the morning to start my 14 hour work days...I've been pushing myself to the limit in order to save up as much money as possible in these last two weeks. It'll be worth it once I get on the road, though!! Unger Catering has been treating me well - my favorite work partner - Kristof - came back after a 12 day trip to Tazmania. His initial plan was to just stop ... read more

Hoi allemaal!

One thing we learned on our trip is that Australians have a sense of humor. And John Boucher, co-owner of the Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery, in Kyneton, Victoria State was no exception. Pointing to the huge, white tent that took up a large portion of his side yard, and where his stepson was to hold his wedding reception in two days, he made a suggestion to my fiancée, Megan, and I: “You should stay a couple of more days,” John said. “And make it a double ceremony.” We passed on the quickie wedding, but allowed John to pour us a several samples of his products. For only having been making wine for five years, John, and his wife, Pauline Russell, have their skills down so much so that I only needed one sample (but tried six) ... read more

Spent the morning helping move Caroline into her flat from the hostel where we were both staying. It's a pretty nice studio apartment in the heart of the busy and lively St.Kilda district and shes paying $260 per/week (120 pounds) fully furnished and all inclusive of bills which I think is a pretty good deal. She's also got it on a two month contract instead of the crappy 6/12 month ones they seem to force you to have in the UK. It's something I might consider doing myself for a couple of months as melbourne seems to have everything you would need to keep you entertained for a lifetime. April 12th - May 7th is the Melbourne International Comedy festival where there will be some great nights comedy every night so I expect that that combined ... read more

I wake up every morning around 11:00 and walk into the kitchen and pour myself a bowl of Cocoa Puffs, sit down in front of the computer to catch up on e-mails and gossip, then turn on CNN to see what’s going on. Man, it is so weird being back in the western world. Being in a house in a neighborhood with all the amenities. I think I ma having some kind of reverse culture shock. But I can’t help but love it. It’s been extremely relaxing here. Not having to pack up and move on every couple days. My daily routine here in Boronia is to get up in the morning, have some breakfast, play with Sophie (Neal’s dog), surf the net, watch some TV, read a little…and wait for Neal to get off work ... read more

Saturday. Grim. Minimal response. Finally ended at Telstra Dome where thousands of footy fans walked past and only a handful got stickers. One guy got seven. At least, at least 30,000 people saw the design. Sunday. Couldn't face streets of Melbourne again. Went to Williamstown, old port. Some local festival. Many taken. Felt better. Decided to go to Ballarat - sacred site - only one hour away. There it was oh so quiet. Found Irish pub with music, old bearded guys playing traditional music. One guy gave me twenty. Went to "Peter Lalor" pub. I know Peter Lalor from Cottesloe, direct descendant. Ballarat flew him over for the 150th anniversary two years ago. Monday. Ballarat "Courier did interview and pic at Eureka Stockade site which should be out in tomorrow's edition. (Here I must mention that ... read more

We have finally made it back to Melbourne... We had a wonderful three weeks of roughing it in our tent and are glad to be back here. It's sort of a home away from our home. Anyways, where do I begin? We flew into the gold coast airport which is in a small town called Coolongatta in Southern Queensland. We walked from the airport to our first caravan park that we stayed in and just stayed one night. It was a beautiful place, the beach was just that, golden and the sky so big. We decided to move further north the next day but only made it as far as Surfer's Paradise which we found to be a horrible place. It is very touristy up there with heaps of high rises and casinos and shopping centres ... read more
