We set off from Sydney & aimed for Newcastle about 100 kms North. We didn't see much of this place but it looks quite industrial. We called in on an old friend of Janets Mums in a retirement home there and she was really pleased to see us. She'd moved here about 25 years ago. Next stop was Forster/Tuncurry two towns either side of a very pretty inlet near Wallis lake. The place was ok but seemed a bit sleepy and retirementified, (if that's a word). Stayed overnight and because the Valentines day weather looked a bit iffy, we decided to drive inland to Tamworth in the mountains. It was a lovely run but unless you're heavily into Country & Western, there's not much to see. The drive down was very good as well but very ... read more

Hello again! We arrived in Noosa on the 24th where we decided to book our Fraser Island trips etc. Within 2 hours we were on a coach up to Rainbow Beach to prepare for our briefing on our trip to Fraser Island. We spent one day at rainbow beach in which we spent time at the beach then got briefed on our trip. On the 26th we went over the island in a self drive 4x4 jeep. There were 9 people in our group, 7 of us and 2 other extras that we didnt know. With the self drive tours, you cant drive unless you are over 21 and therefore the other 2 in our group had to be older. We were put with an engaged couple - an ozzy guy and an english girl, he ... read more

Up early for pancakes that were on offer at a cafe for $3, a must for Shrove Tuesday. We went on the internet also, all before we had to move out of our dorm at 10am. We went to the Qantas office to change our flight dates again and also to enquire about adding destination (which was not possible) and looked at flights to Fiji. We then went back onto the internet to research Fiji, but in the end we decided against going, plenty left for us to still see. We were due to meet Simon, Debbie and the kids Atia and Stkye (apologies if mispelt!) at 10.30 ish for a day on the beach and they were bringing the picnic, woohoo! Unfortunately, due to no fault of their own they didn't get to us until ... read more

HI Everyone, Sorry i have completely got behind with keeping this updated so i am now going to attempt to fill you in on my whole time in Aus - will try to be brief!!! I last updated you when i had just got to Brisbane, as a city i really liked it, but was only there for a couple of days, so not much scandel from there. I did have my first experience of goon (very cheap, slightly dodge wine) , drinking on the balcony with a couple of girls from my dorm - knew i would learn to love it. From Brisbane i took the bus up to Hevey Bay for my Fraser Island trip, which was the complete highlight of my time in Aus. The company i went with had bright pink jeeps, ... read more

Hi all, We are now safely back in Sydney and just about in one piece! After Fraser we headed back to Noosa, another lovely beach town, a bit like Byron but with less hippies and kids. Anyway, I promptly went and fractured my toe while on a cliff walk. We were about 3km away from civilization and I was determined not to be rescued but it turns out that I am not easy to piggy back and hobbling was taking ages so in the end a ranger had to come and rescue me in his truck. We then spent the morning hobbling from doctor to xray place to hospital and the next couple of days on crutches. Luckily it's healing remarkably quickly and a week later I'm basically back to normal! I also managed to go ... read more
