Hey everyone, We stayed a week in our next stop travelling up the coast, Surfers Paradise. Really nice place, I suppose the name says it all! It's more like a city with a beach than a beachtown! We didn't have great weather while we were there so we did a few activities to keep ourselves occupied instead. We went to Ripley's believe it or not Museum, great fun, there were some really freaky stuff there! Another day we took a trip to a theme park called dreamworld. Myself and Liam went on everything, the scariest by far being this torture ride called the giant drop! You get dropped 36 stories, the highest freefall drop ride in the world! Liam is afraid of heights so I think it was extra scary for him!!! There were a few ... read more

16.02.06 We were up nice and early to go to the supermarket to buy supplies for our holiday to Stradbroke Island as we had heard that there were only small shops on the island which meant they could be expensive. We also rung the woof lady (Sue) and we got booked in on her farm as of Monday, so we were very excited about that. In true Mel and Andy style our trip was not with a tour company so we got the train from Brisbane to Cleveland then a bus, ferry, taxi followed by another bus.We got to our hostel at point lookout(a small resort just around from where a few weeks ago a young girl was killed by a shark whilst swimming out at sea). We booked in to find we had got the ... read more

This was my first day. Although I had the worlds worse flu i dealt with the jet lag quite well. we went shopping in one Cairns shopping centre. The first shop we went into skinny HAD to feel some shorts and the metal shelf fell on her toe. i cudnt stop laughing, but it looked painful as it bruised in a second. After the boat brought the 4x4 back to the mainland it was only a short drive back to the hostel from there. We had been told specifically to come straight back and not go to any burger bars or anything and we did as we had been asked. On arrival back at the hostel we discovered that al members of the self-drive were being placed back at the hostel in the same room (except for Jurgen who wasn't staying there) and this was cool because it seemed a perfect outlet from which to hang out with everybody. That evening we prepared some of the food that we had left from the trip and we all sat and drank beer to gether as well. It seemed as though everybody had had a really great time and that ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Whitsundays February 17th 2006

The prospect of spending three full days living on a boat was something i found pretty interesting and the fact that it was a small boat with only 12 other passengers, one of whom i already knew made this an attractive prospect. The scenary while sailing the whitsundays is really beautiful and as someone who loves great scenary it was something i took to straight away. One of the things i also love about being on boats are when you swim in the sea after diving off a boat, i find this far more interesting than just going into the sea from the beach, so when it was time to go for a swim i was well into this. One problem though is that in the area at this time of year there is a danger ... read more

I managed to get a haircut in Queensland this morning & not come away with a mullet, what a relief! We walked into town & stopped off at tourist info to find out that a theatrical adaptation of Monkey would be performed in the evening & had to get directions to the theatre. We carried on to the Queensland Museum South Bank where there were good displays of Queenlands terrestrial & marine fauna as well as a great interactive Aboriginal gallery. The Queensland Cultural Centre also houses the Queensland Art Gallery where other interactive displays allow you to stick coloured dots on a white room & build structures out of white Lego bricks. The afternoon was basking in the usual Queensland heat & we had a dip in the lagoon at Streets Beach. The beach is ... read more

Hello Everyone - Time for your next update - lucky you! Last time i wrote i was on Ko Samui and heading on to Ko Pha Ngan. Well my last night on Samui was eventful as we went out and got very drunk. The journy the following day was hellish, i have learnt my lesson never to move on with a hangover. I woke up feeling ok, so thought i would catch the early boat to Ko Pha ngan, big mistake. A rickety coach ride to the port from where i was staying in Chaweng and then a fairly dodgy boat ride where i was trying my hardest not to throw up. From there i had to get a mini bus to the beach where i could catch a long tail boat to bottle beach - ... read more
