A free bus arrived in Noosa to take us to Australia Zoo a family who hadn't prebooked seats were forced to wait to see if there were any spaces. They included about the only children in the group & they managed to squeeze on in the end. The special extended version of Steve Irwins life story was playing on the bus refamiliarising us with classic Irwinisms such as 'Woo Hoo', 'Isn't She a Beauty' & 'Sweating Bullets'. The extended version meant we didn't get to see it all before we were at the zoo. The first animal we saw was a water monitor crossing our path, these critters were all over the zoo & they were pretty tame too. Australia Zoo has the oldest animal in captivity, a large land tortoise from the Galapagos called Harriett ... read more

14.02.06 Valentines Day We have tried more WWOOF farms, but no luck yet. They are all booked until end of Feb or March. We'll keep trying, we want to get back out of the city. Today we headed into town to get our jabs that we needed boosting! We went to the Travellers Doctor that is mentioned in the Lonely Planet book, we were quoted some crazy prices for our jabs and that we would first have to have a consultation which was also more money. Also we would be unable to claim any of it back on our medicare card, which we had joined for free. Plus they wouldn't be able to see us for a couple of days. So we went away from here a little flat because we didn't want to spend a ... read more

Hi all. It's Tuesday the 14th today. I'll fill you in on what's happended since we got here. ON Sunday we found a hostel called "Backpackers Paradise"...hardly true. It was $29/night, apartment style which means that it includes a kitchen and bathroom in the apartment. thats pretty expensive considering you have to pay to use the appliances and cutlery, plates etc. but we booked it for 2 nights anyway so that we could have a place to sleep and give us a chance to find another place to stay. our room mates were a couple from switzerland, thomas and sibil, and dave from sydney which shared a bunk with hailey in our room. it's so weird always being around ppl you don't know, and really hard to leave your stuff in the room when we are ... read more

I must admit to having had a great time on the Fraser island self-drive, it was a totally different experience to anything i have done previously so from that point of view it was probably the highlight of my trip thus far. One thing that was also notable about was the wildlife that we encountered while on the island. We were advised during the orientation that we should ensure that we are "dingo-safe" by following the basic procedures needed to ensure we are not attacked by a dingoes, a particular problerm at night when there are many of them around. When we were all camping out on the first night people seemed disappointed that we did not encounter any dingoes. However if people were disappointed with the lack of dingo action on the first night then ... read more

11.02.06 So we arrived in Brisbane, got on the shuttle bus and went to Aussie way backpackers in Petrie Terrace. It's a really nice hostel and it has a pool. All the people are really nice except for one guy who is in our dorm. A big finnish guy, who is very rude with bad manners. We tried to move rooms but none left. Oh well, Marco (the french guy also in our dorm) is ok. We went for a walk around the city and then relaxed by the pool in the evening. This was really good as we met some really nice people. (English, dutch, german and french) One couple we got on well with was Charlie and Holly. That night we went out with them for $5 steak and then a couple of drinks ... read more

Yep, I jumped out of a plane!!!! And yes, I promise never to do it again. I'm glad I did it, but it was terrifying!!!! Sky diving is something I've always thought about doing, and I thought what better place to do it than in Australia. Plus they advertise it like crazy here and I met a bunch of people who said that if you're going to do it, you have to do it at Mission Beach. So I did!!! Kristen decided just to watch me land on the beach though. So the crew from Paul's Extreme parachuting picked me up from my hostel along with two other girls and a guy. One of the girls was about to go for a second time because she loved it so much the first time. This kinda put ... read more
