I managed to get a haircut in Queensland this morning & not come away with a mullet, what a relief!
We walked into town & stopped off at tourist info to find out that a theatrical adaptation of Monkey would be performed in the evening & had to get directions to the theatre. We carried on to the Queensland Museum South Bank where there were good displays of Queenlands terrestrial & marine fauna as well as a great interactive Aboriginal gallery.
The Queensland Cultural Centre also houses the Queensland Art Gallery where other interactive displays allow you to stick coloured dots on a white room & build structures out of white Lego bricks.
The afternoon was basking in the usual Queensland heat & we had a dip in the lagoon at Streets Beach. The beach is a free sand edged swimming pool next to the river where just about everyone comes for a BBQ & a swim.
Once dry & full of fish'n'chips we headed off to the Roma Street Parkland where Monkey & His Magic Journey To The West was being performed. We got there & found tickets were still available & plonked ourselves down in centre of the amphitheatre. While waiting for the show to start we talked to the lovely Spider Queen (Nadine Kelly) who really liked Sams Vietnamese pants. The show started true to form with Monkey 'popping' from an egg on a mountain top. The stars of the show were Pigsy (Ross Lowe) & Sandy (Vanja Matula) who got all the funniest lines. If anyone's in Brisbane & enjoyed the TV series of Monkey then this is well worth seeing with lots of fighting & cloud flying - it's on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays till the end of April.
