So now I was heading for the famous Sunshine Coast and the posh area of Noosa. The bus trip from Hervey Bay was very pleasant as it only took 3.5 hours and passed by some lovely countryside as the areas got more populated and less natural and wild. We had a mandatory 45 minute break at a great place with a terrace overlooking a lake filled with birds, however it was only about another 30 minutes before we reached Noosa so it was slightly annoying to have stopped. The area around Noosa reeks of money and is beautiful, manicured and upmarket. Is very green with a wide variety of imported trees, shrubs and flowers and gently rolling hills sporting massive properties. You need serious money to live here and it was also an expensive stop as ... read more

Australia smells good. It really does. From the first day we landed I noticed a scent in the air. To me, it's a slightly perfumed sage scent. It could be partly because of the hundreds of varieties of eucalypus trees that grow everywhere. Their leaves have a strong scent, like menthol cough drops, and maybe the layers of shedded, dead leaves have a faded scent. I really like it, anyway. As we travel in Queensland we're amazed at the noise created every night at dusk when the lorikeets go to bed in the trees. I timed them tonight: at 4:15 p.m., just as the light in the sky started to dull, lorikeets started gathering in the huge trees in our caravan park. Thousands and thousands of them arrived within the next hour, their high-pitched screechings unbelievably ... read more

Crickey mate it must be Steve Irwin Zoo day !!!!!! It was pouring with rain so I bought one of those ever so attractive see thru poncho's and off I went :) Obviously steve is very highly respected here in Queensland, They have even re-named the hightway after him. Fist critter I saw was a lizard, gorgous little thing about 18 inches long with a lovely soft underbelly and leathery top. Had a cuddle with him then it was Possom time. They are like a cross between a bear and a pig !!! very cute but I only looked didnt cuddle this time. There was a Tortoise show that was very good, they can live up to 200 years old so this was only a teenager at 70 !! their shell is made out of the ... read more

So today up and out early again, this Ozzie air is doing something to me, I went for a walk in the Noosa National Park which is literally 5 mins walk away. I went along the coast line then I crossed into the rainforrest, it was lovely just walking along only hearing the bird maiking their noises and my own foot steps, I'm becoming quite the vegitation spotter !!! There are some really different trees that look lovely..... I know, me a tree lover, what ever next !!!! actually it was just like doing a hash, except there was no sweetie stop and no fines at the end !!!! I saw my first wild Koala asleep in a tree !!! lots of birds that are all around, they look like black chickens with red heads (I ... read more

Today was an early start again, up, breakfasted and out by 9am, on the beach at 9.05am. Like I said yesterday theres a surfing festival on at the moment and it was finals day today. I was mesmorised for hours !!! amazing surf, I passed a notice board giving the surf report and it read "sick at low tide" apparently this has no reference to the sea sickness but it means the waves will be great !!!! So I saw a guy called Harrison that was awesome, he uses a long board and believe me its loooong, huge thing !!! then he was running up and down the full length of the board whilst surfing huge waves, I learnt its called nose riding the board. get me I know the lingo dude :) anyway one of ... read more

So it was an ealry start to catch the 7.45am bus to Noosa a 6 hour journey, that meant I changed states and I now reside in Queensland, I even had to put my watch back an hour - very strange !!! Considering it was 6 hours it went very quickly and pleasantly mainly due to my new Ipod touch which is brilliant, but I must remember not to "sing" along !!! so I arrived here in lovely Noosa where there is a surfers festival going on, my bunk wasnt ready so I went for a walk around town and got me a few essential provisions, cereal, milk, pasta and pasta sauce (staple diet of backpackers) and obviously tea bags and biscuits. Back to the hostel, which is quite lovely its called Halse Lodge YHA - ... read more

Our next stop was Noosa. It took about four or five hours on the bus from Surfers Paradise although we had to go via Brisbane which held us up a bit. Apparently the rain seems to cause problems for Greyhound Buses as they were all running late, just after we’d commented in Byron Bay to each other that they seemed to be ridiculously efficient. Anyway, we were greeted at the transport hub by a couple of turkeys. I’m not being rude and talking about people, there were actually two turkeys randomly wandering around. Alright by me as it is February, but had it been Christmas, you never know what I might have done. I wonder how difficult it is to catch a turkey? Our pick-up from Noosa backpackers Resort (where we had booked) came and we ... read more

After the somewhat dull towns of Hervey Bay (a retirement community) and Rainbow Beach (just small) I was looking forward to getting to a town with more character. It’s somewhat hard to find here in Australia. Probably because the culture here is not that different from that of back home. But I found what I was looking for in Noosa. I arrived in the late afternoon so most of the day was already gone but the hostel was advertising for a cheap evening river cruise so I bought a ticket. The cruise wasn’t for a while and I needed some groceries since mine were either thrown away or stolen when I was on Fraser Island. Bummer. So I booked it over to the supermarket and back. But then I was sweating like crazy so decided to ... read more
