So it was an ealry start to catch the 7.45am bus to Noosa a 6 hour journey, that meant I changed states and I now reside in Queensland, I even had to put my watch back an hour - very strange !!!
Considering it was 6 hours it went very quickly and pleasantly mainly due to my new Ipod touch which is brilliant, but I must remember not to "sing" along !!! so I arrived here in lovely Noosa where there is a surfers festival going on, my bunk wasnt ready so I went for a walk around town and got me a few essential provisions, cereal, milk, pasta and pasta sauce (staple diet of backpackers) and obviously tea bags and biscuits.
Back to the hostel, which is quite lovely its called Halse Lodge YHA - google it you'll see. I'm in a 5 mixed dorm ...... never been in a mixed dorm b4 so watch this space I'll tell you what its like tomorrow. Anyway quick change and then out to find the beach, 5 mins walk and just enuff time to call Julie and remind her I was coming !!!! I'm on her calandar so all is
ok.
Wow what a beach, long, white sand, great waves !!! I walked up and down to help the tan along, then sat and watched the surfer dudes to theyre thing.............. I was mesmorised for about an hour, they really are clever boys and girls, it's the national semi-finals tomorrow so it should be a good show. Theres been a cyclone alert along the coast but were ok her in Noosa, Julie is on cyclone watch so fingers crossed shes not blown away !!!
Ive just had my tea, baked potato with tuna and sweetcorn and a nice cup of tea, my room leads out onto the balcony next to the kitchen so very handy.
I think l'll give you a little synopsis of hostel life, you are in a room with 4+ bunks either single sexed or mixed, sometimes you have the luxury of an en-suit bathroom but mainly you have to go to a shower/toilet room down the corridor. As there are people coming and going every coulpe of days you get used to introducing your self to your fellow room mates. All different nationalities, but all very nice in the main. You have a
shelf to put some of your stuff on but nearly all of it is kept in your rucksack next to your bed. (has Marilyn fainted yet ?????) and I always pad lock my bag whenIi leave the room, even for a wee !!!
Then we have the kitchens, theyre about 20ft square with huge gas hobs, microwaves and massive fridges. You have to put all your stuff in a bag and label it with your name on and the date your leaving otherwise the staff will chuck it out. There are lots of big pots and pans and the usual stuff to cook with. So picture bout 20 or so people (mainly under 25's) all trying to prepare and cook at the same time, plus you have to wash your stuff as you go along - no leaving till the end. But somehow it all works out, people move along like a moving convayer belt, as soon as a place is free next to the preparation board or cookers someone else slides is seamlessly !!!! its like watching a ballet !!!!
Then we have the communal areas to socialise in, lounges, pool tables, bars and hanging our areas that often have hammocks to swing in ....... theyre very popular with us travellers, and people are very friendly and eagar to mix and get chatting. The Ozzie people are incredibly happy as well as ultra friendly, they are more than happy to help you out if your lost or looking for info.
So tomorrow I think I'll have to watch the surfers doing there thing and i;m hoping to go to Steve Irwins zoo the day after, I'm really looking forwrd to that and i'll be thinking of Joanne and Nick especially as he was one of there hero's !!!
still cant put pics on .... sorry
thanks for all your messages i read them and chuckle outloud !!!!
love yas all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
