I had an early start today picked up at 9.15 for a sea kyak trip to see doliphins, it was pouring with rain when we left but stopped by the time we were all riggd up in our wet suits, helmets and life jackets (obviously I looked a dream !!!) There were 3 of us from my hostel , 2 girls who were real sweeties and we had a real good laugh .
So off we went into the Pacific Ocean - I was sharing a kyak with a yong german girl, I was at the back and my intructions were to follow her lead and keep in pace as a team, it took 2 attempts to be lauched as you have to get over the huge waves (about 3ft!!! but huge to me) to get to the calm waters behind the waves, believe me that part is exhausting !!!! real exhasting !!!!
but we made it without falling out, which was more than 2 of the group managed to do !!! we then paddled along at a gentle speed as my kyak pal was the weakest little flower ever, I was twice and a half her age and
was paddling twice as hard as her, she was just tickling the water with her paddles. The instructor encouraged her a bit and it got better.
Then we were rewarded with a school of dolphins that were about 20 yards away all playing .... it was amazing, there were babies there too that kept on splashing their tales on the water. They were feeding on sholes of fish and out run us, but then they came back and were just infront of us. it was lovely you could hear them making that dolphin talky noise 😊
Then two of our 12 party started to be sick !!! sea sick...... I couldnt belileve that you could get sea sick in a kyak ????? then it hit me ..... like a wall !!! me too !!!! l lost my breakfast ..... twice !!!! really really horrible feeling. anyway I recovered and it was time to come back into the beach and to do so we needed to get over the breakers !!! VERY scary but fun, lots of screaming and we did really well, we rode over 3 of the 4 big waves and tipped out at the very last
one. But again there were people including my little girls from the hostel that fell out at wave number 1.
so a great experience .... but I will deffinalty be taking sea sick pills on my 4 day tall ship cruise later on in the month!!!
After lunch (feeling better now) I got talking to a girl from Leeds called Kaz who is a talker like me so we got on like a house on fire !!!! good northern lass. Anyway we decided to go for a walk to the Byron Bay lighthouse which is the most eastery point in the whole of Oz. It was a real hike up hill (obviosly, Its a lighthouse, so ontop of a hill !!!) took us about 50 mins to walk up hills and hundreds of steps but we were rewarded with the most beautiful views and a lovely sunset 😊 we hung around there for a while taking photos and talking to people.
It was another 45 mins walk down hill so we were starving by this point - pizza it was - big portions here too, lets just say it didnt have time to get cold !!!
back to the hostel and caught up with some people I already knew and we all spent the rest of the night on the balcony again. Bed time and ready for tomorrow .... dont know what it will bring yet....... thats part of the fun !!!
night night xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
