We don't really have to say too much about Noosa - we were only there for 24 hours, and decided to reward ourselves after such a grubby (although wonderful) time on Fraser, we booked into the Sheraton at Noosa! Ha ha, we are so naughty! But I can't tell you how wonderful it was - 5 star is so much better when you've only had two showers in the last week! The room was grand, huge, luxurious. The bed too, the bathroom the same, and I had a hairdryer!!! Oh what decadence. So we checked in, went for a delicious lunch on Noosa beach (the best steak sarnie Rich has ever had and the best chicken caesar salad I've ever had, even if I do say that every time!) and then straight back to the hotel ... read more

Back at the hostel after Fraser and we were wiped out, another walk to the supermarket and then on to see Edel and Simon one last time before we left town. We woke up bright and early Thursday morning and it was off to Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo. We had a jolly bus driver called John, the humour is definitely an acquired taste, had us all chuckling along though and with a Steve video playing we were soon at the zoo. The first stop was the massive tortoise and they were huge and fast as the keepers played with them and we watched them being fed. We then went to feed some elephants, this was a lot of fun and quite messy as the elephants slimed your hands with their trunks. With a quick walk up ... read more

Back on the road again, after the months living in Brisbane we had become quite settled and soon that comfort blanket was lifted as we handed back our keys. With the deposit back in our pockets and our lives on our backs we headed to the station and the adventure that lay ahead. As we didn’t trust the reliability of the landlord we had booked ourselves onto the midday bus and told him we had the early bus to catch, we’re not silly. So now been gladly proven wrong we arrived 2 hours early for our bus, luckily with a little smile and charm we were moved up onto the early bus and soon on our way, seeing the high rises of the city fall away behind us and heading into open bush land. Celebrating between ... read more

Noosa was absolutely gorgeous! There was a long walking trail that followed right along the ocean and eventually took us to a horse shoe shaped drop off called Hell's Gate that had a spectacular view of the cobalt blue ocean waters and an enormous beach. The entire time we were hiking we kept looking in the eucalyptus trees for wild koalas or other animals. On the way back down we finally saw one sleep high up in the tree. It looked so cute and fluffy but it never moved! We also saw a cockatiel, some parrots, and a weird turkey like bird running around trying to get into everyone's food.... read more

There was a blinding white light. Laura readjusted her sunglasses and pushed them higher up on her face. It was not a welcomed sight, nor was it a lethal image, but it was painful, raw and innocent. Like a child fresh from the womb, the light emanated and seemed to freeze everyone near. Time stopped while people stood in their tracks. They were locked in their gaze. Their mouths hung open. However, instead of the delivery of a newborn baby—revered with praise—this light was epitomized. Like a demon from the depths of shadows, it emerged and brought shock. And like a towering lighthouse at the edge of a craggy precipice, it warned and provoked fear. To me, I was free. I crumpled up my swim trunks and chucked them at the sand. Standing, I stretched my ... read more

Ok back in business Mackay then last sunday, we arrived back at Brian's house after a tour of the beautiful town and harbour, which is totally gorge, to a massive BBQ, his workmates were there and of course the neighbours got involved, everyone was coming in and out, typical aussie way of life... loads to drink and eat, we loved it! Emma's fave were the chilli prawns but I think Brian's tandoori lamb was pretty special. The next day the boys, James and Robert, were off school so we went with them and 3 of their mates to play football at the local AFL ground - oh that was funny, I was so knackered from running around and trying to tackle tiny kids but I did enjoy being bigger than them and being able to bounce ... read more

Helemaal onze stijl (ahem). Toen we aankwamen in Noosa Heads scheen de zon inmiddels volop en ... read more

Everyone has to believe in folklore or legends. It makes the history of an event or destination seem interesting, maybe personal or relevant. Well Noosa Heads is that place in surfing for me. It has been seen in surf movies, magazines since the late 70’s, so it has had time to change and develop over the years. But in my mind it had air of decadence and standard, something that would hopefully stand the test of time, not giving in to commercial pressures. The only problem was that I had decided to make my trip to surfing Mecca with the ‘terrible twosome’, whose ideal was to make camp in fashion retail outlets along the terribly posh Hastings Avenue sipping champagne, of course with both pinkies out. Where were my long haired, aqua orientated, non-career focused layabouts? ... read more

Heading off early from Brisbane, we loaded up Megan and Stews campervan, stopped off at McDonalds for some breakfast and also to allow Megan and Stew to use the facilities to freshen up after their first night sleeping in their campervan, and hit the road in search for Noosa. We did not need to be at the Gagaju Bush Camp untill 7.30pm on Friday night so we decided to head into Noosa Heads for some exploration and a few hours at the beach relaxing before stocking up on "tasty" dry food for the canoe trip the following day. We arrived in Noosa Heads mid morning, parked that van on the outskirts of town and took a walk along the coastline into the town centre in search of some lunch. After a short walk around the shops ... read more
