Noosa Backpackers
our home for the week Back on the road again, after the months living in Brisbane we had become quite settled and soon that comfort blanket was lifted as we handed back our keys. With the deposit back in our pockets and our lives on our backs we headed to the station and the adventure that lay ahead.
As we didn’t trust the reliability of the landlord we had booked ourselves onto the midday bus and told him we had the early bus to catch, we’re not silly. So now been gladly proven wrong we arrived 2 hours early for our bus, luckily with a little smile and charm we were moved up onto the early bus and soon on our way, seeing the high rises of the city fall away behind us and heading into open bush land. Celebrating between us as we had ourselves a new red bus, just hoping that we don’t get a repeat experience to Cairns as we had from Sydney, with aging buses.
Before too long we finally started to pull into the towns of the sunshine coast and our next stop Noosa. A stark change from Brisbane, back in the seaside towns and very different from Surfers
Mr Pelican
if you address him wrong he gets angre. it's Mr Pelican Paradise, a small boutique township, I think how Lyme Regis would be if it was put on the coast of Australia. Just a short bus ride brought us to our accommodation and we were soon settled in and relaxing into the laid back mood.
Now Noosa was very much a special place for us, not only as the launch into our northern leg and the great National Parks including Fraser Island but also a chance to meet up and spend time with Edel, a colleague from work that had recently migrated to the town. After a pleasant walk down the beach, good to have the sand back between our toes, it was back to the hostel for a few drinks, something to eat and time to catch up with Edel and all her news.
On the first morning we were up bright and early and it straight to the beach for our very first surf lesson. A little fretting at first but when in Rome and all, luckily the first thing they did was give us wet suits. It wasn’t long till we were hitting the water and pushing our boards out and with the guarantee that they
Mr Pelican
he smells chips will get us to stand within the lesson it was all going well. At the end we were up and riding, although not greatly it can be given a big tick in the box another great thing experienced. The rest of the day was spent just chilling and checking out the different parts of Noosa, as it’s all split up into different areas.
The second morning and we were up early again this time the river was calling us and we soon had ourselves a kayak and were paddling around the river system up and down the streets lined with private jetties. Surrounded by wildlife and fisherman, although we tried hard we could not spot any fish or turtles that we were assured we’d see. I guess there just out playing with the bloody elusive whales!
Totally wiped we made our way back to the hostel for a chilled out afternoon before heading out to see Edel and her palace of accommodation with three pools and hot tubs, no I wasn’t jealous at all.
Saturday came and there is only one thing to do on a Saturday in Noosa, so it was all on the bus and
Alice at home
in a market full of goodies Alice's natural home. off to the famous Eumundi Markets. Swallowing the whole town of Eumundi and swelling the population every Saturday the markets are immense. Selling everything from food and clothes to the far extremes of art both native aboriginal and modern. A real bohemian feel filled the air and musicians played as we ate our German hotdogs and strolled around the stalls, so much that we could have brought if we weren’t so far from home. After three hours we were spent and it was back to the bus and off to chill on the Sunshine beach, it’s very hard being a tourist you know.
That evening we took a walk down the river from the hostel and had our fish and chips at the waters edge watching the pelicans and fishermen.
Sunday brought us sunshine and a great opportunity to experience one of Noosa’s biggest pulls, Noosa Heads national park. Pack lunch in hand and hats at the ready we headed off up the headland to see if we could locate those illusive whales and see what else we could find. After much walking we came to rest at Alexander Bay, with high swells and great white sandy beaches
it was beautiful and definitely a great lunch. That evening we were both very excited as we packed up our rucksacks and prepared ourselves for Fraser Island.
