We travelled up to Noosa during the day and got there late afternoon. Our hostel - 'Flashpackers' looked like the Big Brother House - leather sofas, bean bags, huge TV, outdoor sofas, a pool, reading room ('the Snug'). We still only paid 32 dollars a night which was about the same as everywhere else we stayed too. It was a little out of town but they had a shuttle bus. I well recommend staying there. Warwick, the owner, is lovely! We booked up to go to Fraser Island the next day on a tour. We wanted to go for a few days camping but just didn't have the time... or money! The day trip was 100 quid - but so worth it. We got up at 5.30 and got picked up from the hostel. Fraser Island ... read more

Our final week was spent in Byron Bay and Noosa Heads. By this point we were really running low on our budget for Oz so we didn't do an awful lot. We arrived in Byron Bay at around eight o'clock in the morning after catching the night bus from Sydney. The journey wasn't too bad, slept for most of it but kept waking up with a numb bum!! Woke up at one point and we must have been travelling through the country as it was pitch black. The stars looked amazing, I have never seen them looking so big and bright! After checking in at our hostel we headed out to get some breakfast as we weren't able to get into our room until about half eleven. I had one of the best bacon and egg ... read more

I only spent 2 nights in Noosa and never got the chance to really see it as I went to Australia Zoo for the full day, but I think it would have been nice to just chill there. It is a little spaced out, but the beach looked really nice and the vibe seemed pretty relaxed. It did seem quite an expensive place though in terms of living there. The houses looked big and posh, with jetty's. Well Australia Zoo was smaller than I expected and got a little bored pretty quickly. They had all the Australian animals expected, but hardly any from across the world like Chester Zoo (long time since I've been, but sure they have lots). They only had elephants, tigers and some American alligators that were foreign. Saying that it was nice ... read more

Good'Day from Noosa, Queensland Time flies when you are having fun. What I like about my buddy Kevin is that he likes to wake up early as well. So around 7 am we were right awake and ready to hit another day. First stop was the Hertz Office in downtown Brisbane. We were being helped by Jenny. I was going to pay for the car, so the paper work had to be put on my name. Up on seeing my Belgian ID, Jenny started talking Dutch to me. Her parents were from Holland. It set the tone for some "extra good customer service" from Hertz. So we were very pleased. As renting a GPS was going to be more expensive than buying one, we went to buy one. So and off we were with our car. ... read more

Today was the day we had been ever so slightly apprehensive about....the start of our 3 day bush camp: Gagaju!! We waited at the bus stop and were met by Alan, a very 'attractive' Australian man in his 50s with possibly the most frightening laugh we'd ever heard! He took us to a lookout point to show us where we would be camping before dropping us at the supermarket to pick up our supplies for the camp! Arriving in Gagaju we were a little stunned by our sleeping arrangements, a delightful 'dorm' tent which looked like something out of the army that had been rotting in cobwebs for years! Upon our tour Camilla and Becky were instantly squealing at the sight of the huntsman spiders which were littering both the inside and outside of the very ... read more

We said goodbye to Sophie and caught the bus to Noosa Heads, Australia's posh beach resort where house prices start at around 10million! Unfortunately however our budget only stretched to a 16 bed dorm which we reached after a a mammoth walk up a massive hill, rucksacks, goon and all!! We relaxed on the beach and then had a fairly chilled evening with a very disappointing cold and mouse-sized free meal! The following day we decided to explore the national park and went the full monty walking the whole 7km track! The views of the coast were beautiful and we even saw a koala sleeping in a tree! After our walk we stayed on the beach a little longer before an evening of karaoke with our dorm! X factor auditions next year.....!?... read more

After a very cosy night in the tent, which thankfully was secure from spiders, we awoke to day number 2 of canoeing! Ever so happy to be reunited with our boat and paddles we set off down the river this time to yet another lake which would lead us to a 2.5km 'bush hike'. Thankfully this 'hike' was entirely along the main road and so we arrived at the beach which was completely deserted! The waves were amazing and we spent most of the afternoon lying on the beach and in the sea before 'hiking' back to the boats! Luckily the hike was broken up by several kanagaroo sightings and we arrived at the boats ever so slightly exhausted but desparate to get back to land! The paddle back was long but we made it ashore ... read more

Having counted down the hours until we could get out of bed we escaped the spiders and prepared for our first day of canoeing! Our group of 9 was split into 3 full size Canadian canoes and so naturally we decided to stick together and brave the river as a threesome! To say our steering was a little off is an understatement but after a 2 hour 'paddle' against the current and across a very wavy lake we abandoned ship early and decided to walk the rest of the distance along the shore! We arrived at the second oldest pub in Australia where we had lunch amongst the Kookaburras before a little recovery break on the beach! We went back to the boats which were unfortunately still where we had left them and decided that a ... read more

After a short bus ride from Brisbane we arrived in the small town of Noosa in the early evening. We checked into our hostel, which was in a huge old colonial house, and arranged our tickets for Australia Zoo for the next day. Noosa is a really nice beach town with a holiday feel, and as we hadn't been out for a proper meal for ages we decided to treat ourselves and went to a small restaurant for steak and chicken parmigana, which were both so good, before going back for an early night as the last few days had been pretty full on and we wanted to be up early for the zoo. We got the bus to the famous Australia Zoo, home of the late Steve Iriwn the 'crocodile hunter' and forst went to ... read more

Australia. There will not be enough words or pages or meanings to describe it. If I describe every detail it will not give reason enough to not go there yourself. I'm from Canada, big open spaces, friendly people, bears in the backyard (or at least eating our smores leftovers in the night while camping) so I'm no stranger to those things - it's the kangaroos, everywhere, more popular than cats - a whole street of little old cat-ladies who all let their cats loose at once wouldn't compare to the population of kangaroos in australia. It's the can-do attitude of people, the eating of seafood every night, the number of times we said 'oh that's close on the map, we'll just pop over there quickly and check it out - and ended up driving for four ... read more
